Setting Information:
City Name: Galacot City
Classification: Metropolis
Location: Yesmireen
Affiliation: Yesmireen
Population: Heavy
Demographics: Overall, the population here favors Human (or Near-Human) species in a hierarchical, caste-like system. In this sense, the planet carries a heavy sense of racism, where humans are seen as superior and are seated in every position of power. Other species are permitted to come to Galacot City, but will only receive a “warm” welcome if they are of human or near-human descent.
Wealth: Wealthy; Considering the layout of the planet, the majority of the wealth is held here. Galacot is the capital of the large world and hosts much of the planet's tourism and industrial commerce. Even within the city itself, there is a stark wealth divide, with the human and ruling classes bringing in considerably more revenue than all other species.
Stability: Medium; rule around the city is heavily enforced by the use of the system’s military might, and it is not uncommon to see routine sweeps through the city by large battalions and convoys. Public executions happen on occasion as a means to flex their muscles and snuff out potential rebellion before it can truly gain a foothold. As such, there is a dissonance present between the oppressed and the ruling class of this society.
Freedom & Oppression: Oppressed and commerce-heavy. Standard body of law, but favors the human and near-human population. Repercussions for law-breaking are not equal across species, with humans and near-humans typically receiving less severe punishments.
Description: The capital of the planet Yesmireen, Galacot City is a sprawling metropolis that caters to a wide variety of different interests. There is a heavy military presence throughout the city, and it is overwhelmingly dominated by Humans. Alien species are few and far between here, and often seen performing the less-than-desirable tasks and jobs that come with being a functioning city.
Points of Interest:
Capital District: The capital district is the beating heart of the city and among the most densely populated areas of not only the city, but the planet as a whole. This particular district of the city is where the ruling class wields the greatest influence, and it is very rare to see an alien species mingling among the humans and near-humans that teem here in great numbers.
Also within this district lies a massive museum where archeological finds from various digs and ruins around the world are predominantly stored. Almost everything excavated from the ruins of Midwan is housed in the grand museum, including ancient Sith texts recovered, though the ability to decipher them has been fruitless due to their aged form and dead language.
Industrial District: The industrial district is the hub of commerce on the surface of the planet, whether that be the importation or exportation of various goods and services. Various textile manufacturers fill the area, and it is not uncommon to run across the occasional street vendor trying to sell or trade their trinkets. Yesmiri military makes routine runs through this sector of the city to ensure the law is enforced and to sniff out any signs of a black market developing to pawn and sell illicit goods.
The distribution between humans and aliens in this part of the city is rather diverse, though humans still greatly outnumber other species due to the sheer volume of their population here.
The Underground: Despite its name, the Underground is not the haven of scum and villainy that one might believe based simply upon its designation. Instead, this area below the main body of the raised city is a massive military complex that runs the length of the entire city. Among its walls are millions of uniformed personnel in various brigades, squadrons, and fleets of all services. A massive academy is built into the central pylon and is the unholy place where every citizen of Yesmireen is required to attend to fulfil their mandatory six-year service commitment. It is commonplace for hundreds of armed military vessels to travel in and out of the complex daily, and their training and firepower are on a monstrous scale.
The Outskirts: The outskirts of the city are by far the dirtiest and least well-kept area of Galacot. It is predominantly inhabited by alien species, and humans are rarely seen within its borders. The people who live here are impoverished and largely in need of many everyday essentials that most would take for granted. This area of Galacot is severely underdeveloped when compared to the rest of the city.
However, even in its downtrodden state, crime is quite low here. In part, this is out of fear of what would happen if the crime were uncovered, as punishments under Yesmireen's law differ considerably in severity between the Alien and Human races. Where a human may receive a simple fine for theft, it would not be unheard of for an alien to receive the death penalty due to the racist nature of the ruling class here.
Of all patrols conducted by the Yesmiri military, the Outskirts receives the overwhelming majority of attention.
Historical Information:
The sprawling capital of Yesmireen, Galacot City is a rather recent addition to the architecture that dots the planet’s landscape, emerging only after the Rise of the Galactic Empire. Even so, it has quickly risen to prominence on the planet and is the central hub to all intergalactic interaction between the Yesmiri and those beyond its warm yellow sun. It’s a city deeply rooted in archaic laws that enforce a certain prejudice about all races, seemingly putting the human race on a pedestal as though they are superior to all others. As such, equality in treatment among the many different species that live within the city is nonexistent. For if you are not human here, you may as well not be a person at all.
The metropolis is divided into several districts, each with a particular focus: industry, government, residential, and military. Of them, the military district is by far the largest, with a coverage area practically as large as the raised city itself. Also, it seems to be the pride and joy of those with a voice among the Yesmiri - or rather, those in charge. Citizens of Galacot are required to serve a minimum of six years with the military - no exceptions to be had. This makes it so that the military and martial presence is always strong, something they’ve felt it had to be in order to keep their prejudice-based caste system in place and to remain safe amid a galaxy that seemingly sought nothing short of chaos.
