Faction Freshmen | Fondor Senate Building

Cressida Tolliver

extraordinary and plenipotentiary
THE GALACTIC ALLIANCE SENATE BUILDING
GOVERNMENT DISTRICT - FONDOR CITY, FONDOR
Standing at the base of the broad staircase that led up to the bizarre stone edifice of the new Senate building on Fondor, Cressida Tolliver could see why her predecessor Natasi Fortan Natasi Fortan had displayed a certain lack of enthusiasm for the new home of the Galactic Alliance Federal Assembly. As far as Cressida was aware, Fortan had never set foot in the building, choosing instead to remain in her office on Coruscant and commute via holo to the Senate floor on what she had always said was principle.

Well, as the second invasion of Coruscant had demonstrated, principles were like prayers: noble, but awkward when the shooting started.

The whole affair had caused Alderney Square to reconsider keeping the Supreme Leader in play when the Galactic Alliance was allowing the Core to becoming a shooting gallery. Cressida Tolliver, apparently, was expendable, or near enough to be dispatched with a set of formal credentials in hand to present to the Chancellor's office.

"Shall we, Senator?" asked a voice from beside her. Cressida glanced to see Kenat, who had served as Natasi Fortan's Principal Private Secretary in the Senate and who had agreed to stay on to help Cressida get settled in.

"Is Kenat your first name or your last name?" Cressida asked as she mounted the broad stairs toward the entry.

"Ma'am?" He seemed taken aback by the question.

"Everyone simply calls you Kenat, but is there another name there?"

"Pietr Kenat," said Kenat as he fell into step beside her. "But I go by Kenat."

"That's fine," Cressida said. "I've said it before, but I appreciate you being here. Staying on, I mean, to get the office up and running. I know you've been with Her Majesty for a long time, so it's appreciated, truly." Kenat's lips twitched up a little at the edges and he remained silent. His gait changed only when the pair approached the members' entrance and he sped up to open the door for her before following her inside. "Thank you. Now let's see here. I suppose it's too much to ask for a new member orientation. Or a map."

Kenat spoke quietly to the receptionist on duty for a few minutes, having an animated discussion before returning to Senator Tolliver. "You've been assigned a -- er -- rather minimal office here. Basically a room to prepare for sessions. The main office -- where you'll work and where the staff will be -- is in a nearby building. I'll show you the former now, and later we can see the other office." He paused a moment. "The receptionist warned that there will be non-Senators and non-staff in the building. There are lots of visitors, ah, as a result of what happened in Coruscant and the rest of the core. Your call if you want to engage."

Cressida shrugged out of her traveling cloak and adjusted the high collar of her blazer. "We might as well. I have a feeling the Foreign Office is expecting me to be rather a rough diamond. I'd like to show that I can be polished, when it's appropriate."

Alexandra Feanor Alexandra Feanor | @Senators

Alexandra Feanor

The Lady in Silver/Grey Historian
Some calm and quiet, that was what she hoped for today. She had come to look over the office that Lucas used, an office that may very well be hers soon if Vulpesen makes the final call. She was looking forward to it, and the man remained as helpful as ever, something she liked alot about Lucas and knew his time as a Senator must have been a well accomplished one. That all said, there was more that needed done, and they could not fall behind, they needed to push forward and ensure the creation of a stronger Alliance.

That was what remained important, even now as she looked at the others far more finely dressed than herself. She still wore the almost silvery white robes, still looked far more like a Jedi than a Senator or Guard as she stood there. Far more out of place than even Lucas, and that was with hiding the certain appendage that her Zorren body had given her, knowing that soon she would have to display it more openly.

She still felt weird having that damn tail, but it did make certain tasks like balancing easier she supposed.

That pushed to the back of her mind, she would straighten up and roll her head until she caught sight of someone. One of the other new Senators from what she had gathered in the short time that she had been in the building. These kinds of things were easy for her to commit to memory, up there with the Droids and Ships she had tore apart and put together in her earlier years. A project she hadn't gotten around to doing in years and she wondered if Adara might be curious in doing something like that with her.

Teaching her dear daughter to piece together her own starfighter? That could be something she would enjoy doing while Adara was helping tended to the corruption running rampant in Alexandra's soul.

That thought put on hold for now, she would stand tall and walk forward. She kept herself distant from Cressida Tolliver Cressida Tolliver at first, letting the more pestering types do their thing and ask the new Senator about their plans. It was only after all that that Alexandra would find her opening. Turning and walking down a hall that would meet with the one Cressida would be walking.

When she got closer, she would clear her throat, giving a smile and a small bow of her head.

"Forgive me, you are one of the newer Senators, Miss Tolliver, correct?" She was quite curious about this woman, mostly due to the limited background she had learned as she had been looking through the faces and names of the Senators in preparation for her visit here.

Cressida Tolliver

extraordinary and plenipotentiary
Cressida made it through the gauntlet of political reporters standing in the lobby of the building. It seemed like only one or two had recognized her at first, but once one did, they all glommed on. How did her agenda differ from Senator Fortan's? they asked. "There is no daylight between my agenda and former Senator Fortan's," Cressida had dutifully intoned. "We are united in our dedication to building a secure and prosperous future for the Renascent Heirate and the Galactic Alliance. I'm proud to carry her work forward."

Were the rumors true, one tabloid reporter interjected, that Cressida had been appointed over Fortan's strenuous objections? "Her Majesty was understandably reluctant to leave her duties in the Senate, feeling -- quite rightly -- that there is more work to be done to ensure the Galactic Alliance is meeting its obligations to the taxpaying citizens of the Renascent Heirate. As to whether she objected to me, particularly, I couldn't say. I hope it's not brash to suggest that if she did, she overcame them quickly, because I have an appointment to the Senate with her signature on it right here."

Another incisive reporter wanted to know whether the Galactic Empire's relative close proximity to the Renascent Heirate was a matter of concern. Cressida's response was characteristically dry. "It is a matter of concern to me and to Her Majesty's government," she said directly into the cameras. "It would surprise me to learn that it is not a matter of concern to the Chancellor and the Defense Force brass, but if that's the case, that will change when I formally take my seat in the chamber. Thank you, that's all the time I have for now."

Kenat helped to guide the freshman senator through the clamoring crowd and into a secured corridor where the press were not permitted. As they approached an intersection, another figure approached. Not the bloodthirsty zealotry of the press. A future colleague, perhaps? Cressida couldn't say. Kenat moved to intercept Alexandra Feanor Alexandra Feanor but Cressida waved him off. "Yes, I'm Cressida Tolliver," she said pleasantly, moving toward the other woman. "You have me at a disadvantage. Unless I'm much mistaken, we haven't met." She extended a hand.

Alexandra had been keeping a close eye on things, but soon enough the two would get to have their conversation. Kenat's attempt to intercept her being met with a soft smile. The hand being extended her way bringing her some pause before she raised her left hand in return. She would be quick to explain as she did so, not wanting Cressida to get the wrong idea.

"Apologies, a wound from Coruscant has taken feeling from my right arm. I cannot use it at the time until the damage is repaired." Similarly her voice seemed a bit strained but she would continue to smile rather than interrupt the pleasant conversation that could be had.

"I am Alexandra Feanor, I will be taking over Lucas' duties as Senator of Veradune soon once the remaining work is done in terms of the paperwork." She explained, not wishing to leave the woman confused about why she was there and what might be going on.

"I was hoping that I might be able to sit down and talk with you as well as any other Senators who would be in the area. It has been a long time since I have gotten the chance to discuss things in such a formal setting, and with this much trust placed on my shoulders." She would state, letting Kenat do their job and drudge up whatever public information there was on Alexandra or that had been officially coordinated through the offices.

"I would appreciate getting the chance to sit and talk over your own thoughts on the future of the Alliance, if you would be interested in such." She would extend the offer to Cressida, still a bit out of place but slowly organizing herself and her thoughts.

"Schedule, Marie?", Tiberius "Tiber" Septimus III queried, his mind elsewhere as the Senator and his Chief of Staff flowed through the Senate halls.

"Power bar."

Tiber nearly stumbled, turning to look at the Twi'lek incredulously. Marie stared back, unperturbed. "You've slept 12 hours in the last three days, and you've been subsisting on lint, water, and prayers. It's this or an IV, and I think the power bar is less invasive."

Sighing, he snatched the bar. "The schedule, woman", he grumbling good-naturedly as he took a savage bite out of it as Marie smiled victoriously before giving him the run down. Indeed, Tiber had been busy; he had been on Niahelios when the news of the Empire's stunning victory had reach him. The rapid turn of events led to a hastily convened council, to get his father- His Majesty, King Uriel Septimus IV- informed. It was an odd feeling; Tiber had long been used to being relegated to the corner, as while he was a Prince, he was third in line. However, as a Senator, his counsel- which boiled down to, "we can and should support the Alliance, we are far enough removed from the front to both be an asset and prepare for the worst"- was readily accepted and adopted. Since then, it had been meetings, briefings, coordinating, and missions of mercy.

"...So with the GADF briefing being cancelled, you actually have some downtime before the charity dinner", Marie concluded as they rounded the corner, entering a secured, blessedly press-free corridor. He paused, as something caught his eye.

Well, someone.

"Who are-", Tiber began before Marie cut him off, tracing his look in an instant and anticipating him.

"Both are new Senators. The one on the left is Lady Alexandria Feanor; she is the incoming Senator of Veradune, replacing Lucas Gratin." Marie took a dramatic pause, enjoying the annoyance flash over Tiber's face before continuing. "The one on the right is Cressida Tolliver- she is of the Renascent Heirate, replacing the outgoing senator, Natasi Fortan", Marie concluded.

Nodding, Tiber strode forward, Marie trailing a distance away.

"Senators, my name is Tiber Septimus, Senator of Niahelios. Apologies for any intrusion; I thought that this would be as good a time as any to make your acquaintances, without those press vultures lurking about", he said, bowing.

Senator Velyra Vonn of Zeltros

The last of the press corps peeled away in her wake, their holocams still glowing faintly from the questions they had hurled only moments before. Velyra had answered them all — firmly, elegantly, without ever raising her voice. There was a smile when it suited her, a flash of wit when it disarmed, a simple lift of her hand when the questions turned predatory. Even as she moved down the corridor, the performance clung to her like cheap perfume on a humid planet.

Beneath it, if one looked closely, the faintest cracks had begun to show. A crease at the corner of her mouth that had not been there last year. The subtlest weariness in the eyes, betrayed only when she allowed her lashes to dip for half a heartbeat too long. The war had cost them all, even her.

Still, she carried herself as though she were the one setting the tempo of the building itself, black silk draped in a way that suggested strength more than indulgence, her glasses flashing once beneath the corridor lights. And as she turned a corner, she came upon a forming cluster of new colleagues; Cressida Tolliver with her guarded poise, Alexandra Feanor with her grace, and the princely Tiber Septimus bowing with impeccable courtesy.

"Senators," she said warmly, her voice low, smooth, with the barest hint of indulgence. "I thought I might find the most promising faces of the chamber gathered together, away from the vultures. A relief to step into company that is less figuratively necrophagic." A smile, not unkind, but barbed enough to draw amusement.

Her gaze swept over each in turn, sharp as glass but softened by charm. "We will have much to discuss, I think."

The Senate’s halls reverberated with the low whine of holocams, a crowd of reporters jostling for a better shot. They pressed closer than the reception cordons allowed, voices swelling over each other with questions aimed at Cressida Tolliver and the other legislatures.

That was as far as they got.

Nos Voros moved with the unhurried inevitability of a tide, his azure Senate Commando armor scarred and dulled by constant conflict of the recent months. Rubrus had fanned out with him, azure visors aglow under the vaulted ceiling. One armored gauntlet came up, palm flat, and the crowd felt the invisible line drawn.

“Press zone ends here.”
His voice carried, dry and firm, no louder than it needed to be.

Most of the reporters faltered, cowed by the the authority of the Senate sigil, or of the servo-assisted Heavy Commando armor. One ducked past the stanchions, a recorder raised high. Private Tash Renn seized him in a precise, mechanical motion, no unnecessary violence and marched him back past the crowd, off the property.

Nos's visor swept across the silent crowd.
No more tried that maneuver.

The press ringed the boundary a little more obediently, lenses tracking Tolliver’s answers from a respectable distance. Nos and his squad didn’t need to posture further; the grizzled stillness spoke louder than any threat. The message was plain: wartime rules left no space for accidents, and Alliance security did not bluff.

Cressida Tolliver

extraordinary and plenipotentiary
Cressida withdrew her hand, offering a sympathetic but not -- she hoped -- condescending look to Alexandra. "I see. Well I hope your recovery is swift, and I am of course eager to discuss with anyone the precarious position of the Alliance today. It must seem terribly trite to say that something must be done, but I must confess I find myself not very inspired by current -- "

She broke off as a man approached, an assistant in tow, and introduced himself with a bow. Cressida had come up in the court of the Renascent Heirate and had a practiced curtsy, which she deployed in response to Tiber Septimus Tiber Septimus , and again for Velyra Vonn Velyra Vonn when the Zeltron made her entrance. Kenat passed behind her, so subtle in his taking possession of Cressida's cloak and murmuring as he passed behind that it was distinctly possible they wouldn't have been able to detect him identifying them to her. "Cressida Tolliver," she introduced herself to them. "Of the Renascent Heirate. Pleased to make your acquaintance, Senator Septimus. Senator Vonn."

She listened to both their introductions and nodded at Senator Vonn's assessment. "I quite agree," she said gravely. "The Galactic Alliance stands at a rather dark crossroads. I'm eager to know what I can do in my position to help us win this war. I'm not sure how helpful debate and discussion will be in the face of Imperial barbarity, except in an example of democracy in action. Although sometimes I wonder if it's not more democracy inaction," she said ruefully.

Alexandra Feanor

The Lady in Silver/Grey Historian
Alexandra was pleased that Cressida Tolliver Cressida Tolliver accepted her offer, that the two of them would be given the chance to speak on the matters that had been suggested. The chance to speak with another newer Senator would be good to help organized some options for future discussions and bills, especially ones that could lead to a more secure and safer galaxy. One where the different nations born from their thousands of worlds could organize into far greater pursuits than another invasion like Coruscant. The options from simply being able to sit down and speak with Cressida as she had gotten the chance to with Lander Stalwart Lander Stalwart only meant the future was brighter.

Of course, then her expectations grew a bit more, hearing the voice of not one, but two other Senators. Long time seniors at that if she remembered her briefing on the individuals that Eve had insisted on her committing to memory. A task not too hard for Alexandra, but far more dull than getting to work on a ship or a droid, or working away in her garden. She would smile all the same though, the warm motherly smile that she had long gotten used to giving in the decades she had spent raising her children.

Tiber Septimus Tiber Septimus was the first she looked at, her head bowing towards them after giving them the warm smile. His request a simple one and something she would not mind given the fact that she and Cressida had already settled on having such a conversation. It would be all too easy to include another of their colleagues or even a fourth as she looked towards Velyra Vonn Velyra Vonn , the Zeltron woman being quite a different sight from the others standing there. Infact as Alexandra thought of it, they all did give quite a different view of how different the worlds in the Alliance were. Alexandra's represented world a more feral and dangerous one than most, with a force sensitive population strong enough to have given birth to their own Order of Force Users.

That alone would be strange enough of a difference to the woman from Zeltros, or the more traditional looking Tiber and Cressida, but her silver colored robes she still wore making that difference all the more clear. Alexandra had already been chastised for choosing to wear the robes, but she had spent nearly eighty years in robes like this, and even at home these robes were the ones she had worn for a better part of three decades. Only when working on her droids or at night was she wearing something different, and neither were presentable as a senator in the least.

"As the others suggested, perhaps it would be best to continue such a discussion in private away from unwelcome eyes. While our dutifully protectors have helped to curb such intrusion, there are those who will find ways to escape even their capable sight."
She would give some praise to the dutifully Senate Commando, Nos Voros Nos Voros , nodding her head towards them before looking to the side for a room that would fit their purposes.

"Oh, and apologies, I am Alexandra Feanor, Senator for Veradune. If you three would not mind, I think that room over there should work."
She would motion to an office that looked private enough not too far away. The sitting room for that office should prove to be good enough and she was certain Nos would be able to keep anyone from entering if he were to be there... though of course she could also simply ensure that none could enter through the use of the force, but she hoped to limit how much she used such within the halls of the Senate.

To say the irony was palpable to Noah would have been a correct statement at the current moment. Noah Corek, the man who had long extolled his disdain and nigh almost hatred of almost all politicians now found himself walking the halls of the Alliance Senate building on Fondor.

And why was this? Well like all men who went against their better instincts it was for love of course. Noah’s wife Alexandra Feanor had gotten herself entangled into the galaxy at large, despite his best attempts to keep their family cut off from the rest of the galaxy, and so Noah found himself here with her as she had become a senator.

It was not atypical for senators' spouses to accompany them but Noah was different as he had specifically petitioned for himself to be made Alex’s security detail. While the Senate Guard and Commando’s had originally balked at the idea he had provided his bonafides and had quickly been issued an official pass to act as his wife's security and as such to carry weapons.

As Alex mixed and mingled with some other senators and from his reviewing of dossiers, ones that he had gathered himself of course, he recognized the senators from the Renascent Heirate, Niahelios and Zeltron. He filed this information away for later and then listened intently to the conversation.

It was your typical niceties that were exchanged in greetings, something he would admit Alex was much more suited for than him as this type of talk often bored him. When the talk turned towards a private meeting Noah bristled, something he was sure Alex felt in the Force but kept quiet and simply went along with whatever his wife wanted like a smart man.

Tiber chuckled. "You've always had...a way to get the heart of things in the most rhetorically delightful manner possible, Senator Vonn", he said warmly.

"Cressida Tolliver," she introduced herself to them. "Of the Renascent Heirate. Pleased to make your acquaintance, Senator Septimus. Senator Vonn."
"I believe the pleasure is mine, Senator Tolliver", Tiber replied genially, bowing his head- and hiding his confusion when he noticed Cressida had subtly removed her cloak in the moment he had bowed her head.

'A sneaky one', Tiber thought, appraising Cressida in a new light. He let a smirk fleet across his face.

'I like sneaky.'

Finally, he turned to Senator Feanor, noting the gentleman beside her- security, perhaps?

"As the others suggested, perhaps it would be best to continue such a discussion in private away from unwelcome eyes. While our dutifully protectors have helped to curb such intrusion, there are those who will find ways to escape even their capable sight." She would give some praise to the dutifully Senate Commando, Nos Voros Nos Voros , nodding her head towards them before looking to the side for a room that would fit their purposes.

"Oh, and apologies, I am Alexandra Feanor, Senator for Veradune. If you three would not mind, I think that room over there should work."

"A pleasure, and that sounds delightful", Tiber responded, following in line step into the room. Getting himself settled in, the Nehali allowed himself a glass of water, and with a hand underneath the table, tested the locking mechanism of the door with the Force. Satisfied, he began speaking.

"Coruscant has fallen. The Core has fallen. Our fleets shattered."

"Tython burns."

"The Jedi Knights have scattered."

He allowed himself another drink, before speaking again.

"Now that we've gotten the obvious out of the way, I'll say my piece. This war will be fought by fleets, with armies, with lightsabers. But I believe this war is about more about ideas- the freedom of every sentient being to live as they please, worship as they please, and have rights and liberties that are unalienable. The Empire believe in order- order through control through military force, fear, propaganda, and the suppression of dissent."

"The Alliance cannot fight this battle, not alone- we must marshall those who believe in freedom, in democracy, under the banner of our cause if we are to achieve victory."

Tiber, having said his piece, sat down.
