Forging A New Path (Jedi/Light Siders)

In the Temple on Ossus, Phylis Alince had set aside a large training room with the intent of displaying and teaching her skills of Alkahest, also known as Light Alchemy.
As she waited for her students to be to arrive she pondered what she would achieve with this. Hopefully it'd see the expansion of the new artform!

Light sided alchemy. It wasn't something that Dair had heard much about, but from what little he had read in the archives, it was certainly an interesting subject.

Dair walked through the temple to the rim that Master Alince had set aside. He hadn't yet met this master, but like the alchemy she was presenting, seemed interesting on paper. He stepped into the room, waked up to Master Alince, and bowed.

"Greetings, I am Dair Cotarin, padawan of Master Corvus RAAF. I am here for your Alkahest class."

Though Avalore's first stint with Light Alchemy had not proven to be particularly useful, it had seeded an interest of the skill nevertheless. For some time since that first class, the Jedi Order's Chief Healer had taken part in her own studies. She'd never had need to go searching for a Lightsaber crystal due to being a non-combatant, but the time put into studying crystals in her free time and meditating upon them had allowed the Healer to broaden her horizons.

Kasha Crystals had come next. A journey to the planet Cerea with Padawan Aitis Powarth and Jedi Knight Morlandt. There Avalore discovered a small Kasha Crystal, connected with it, and claimed it for her own. She kept it on her now wherever she went, including to this latest Alkahest class today. The weight of the Kasha Crystal was but a familiar comfort for the Jedi who had fallen into very serious mental trauma as of late.

Hal Terrano's disappearance, the delivery of his eyes, and the subsequent posted bounty was no secret within the Order. The Shadows, lead by Master Karr, were already on the lookout for Terrano, and with any luck so were several of the Galaxy's Bounty Hunters.

Avalore squeezed the crystal in the palm of her hand within the pocket of her blue Healer robes as she entered the room.

"Master Alince," the greeting was quiet, "good to see you again."

Although standing among the Jedi Order was a familiar sensation, the Halls of Ossus were foreign to the Jedi Master. In all his days walking in the Light, he had not had the distinct pleasure of venturing to this particular world. Since the days of his Padawanship, the totality of his training had taken place on Tython; with occasional stints on Coruscant. Sadly, both of those hallowed planets had fallen to the Darkness, and now training took place at the easternmost Jedi Temple. Today, Denko had arrived in order to learn more about this so-called "Alkahest". Personally, he had tampered with the creation of artifacts via the Light Side, but before him now laid an opportunity to refine his abilities at the feet of one of the Order's finest.

Needless to say, he chomped at the bit.

Arriving only a few moments after his fellows, the Feeorin greeted the gathered Jedi with a polite half-bow. This was accompanied by a rather formal "Greetings, one and all." before he found a spot towards the edge of the room.

Morgana had scrambled to arrive in the room of the temple on Ossus. She felt like she was late. She knew she probably was. She had set an alarm and everything and yet for some reason it never went off. She only had so much time to eat, dress and clean her face, trying to do all at once. Even as she ran down the halls of the temple, catching the odd eye of many given her punk rock attire, she was still struggling to get her jacket on. It was only at the last minute she did before stopping at the doorway. She took a few deep breaths before regaining herself and then, standing straight and fixing her hair, she casually walked in. Seeing the others she acted all the more casual and only nodded to them, recognizing [member="Dair Cotarin"] among all of them.

Phylis smiled and welcomed each new person in turn.
"Welcome, all of you. Thank you for coming. It is my hope to demonstrate practically the applications of these abilities, and then to begin to teach the more advanced among you how to create your own items. First of all, take a look at this list of my items on this datapad and tell me what sort of item you would like...of the more basic ones anyway. We do not have time to create a holocron in a day! When you're ready, put forward your ideas, and we will begin."

Serena slipped in quiet like. Tip toeing to a seat. She had not planned on being late but her mind had been obsessing about a review she received it made her feel unworthy. She slid into a seat picking up the datapad she began scrolling through the items.

She was already fascinated her blue eyes scanned looking at the intricate details anything that helped with mental resistance as an empath her emotions her mind were the most vulnerable. She chewed her lip scrutinizing the details of the ring.

"I would like an amulet of mental resistance, would that be difficult?"

At least no one, including [member="Phylis Alince"] herself, had said anything. A bit of relief escaped Morgana's lips as she sat down before hearing Master Alince explain what they would be doing. Looking through the datapad Morgana was surprised by the many different items she would be able to create. Part of her wanted as many as possible but knew that would take too long, and would not exactly be fair to others. Two did manage to catch her eye, however; that being an force energy storing crystal and a ring that would prevent mental attacks by the Sith or other illusion based darksiders. Both sounded useful as one would be handy in a desperate fight while the other would ensure no Sith or darkside tracks involving illusions or the like would have any effect on her. Apparently the girl [member="Serena Bouie"] had the same idea when she spoke up about making on.
"Yeah, me too. And I'd also like one of these Force Energy Storing Crystals too, if we can make it."

Dair took the datspad and looked it over. He had much the same issue that Morgana was having, not that he knew it. He wanted to create everything! Instantly in his head he got the idea for a gauntlet being alchemized to resist lightsabers with settings for gems like the protection and mental resistance. He filed that idea away for the moment and focused on what he could do right now.

He likely only had time and resources for one thing. He decided that his filed idea was what he would go for, one piece at a time. The ability to resist mental persuasion was good and useful, as was the gem of protection, though he only understood the rudiments of shielding. The most useful, for him at least, would be the gauntlet. Even if he had to go back and do a new one later to have gem settings, being able to have more physical protection would help. He'd been getting the feeling that a great confrontation was coming, and that he would be meeting [member="sayl bane"]'s brother again and not on the 'friendly' terms that they had met on before.

"Master Alince, would it be possible to create a single gauntlet alchemized to resist lightsabers and perhaps, vong boobiott implants?" He felt a little sheepish and more than a little like a war monger. He really didn't want to fight Saul's brother, but the partying threat remained and it always paid to be prepared.

Off in the back, sitting on a chair as he half spun from side to side with a push of his toe, sat Micah. To say he was fascinated by the concept of this type of alchemy was an understatement. His uncle, Merovign, or Lord Dissero to most people who actually knew him, is an expert Archivist and dealer of Ancient Force relics and artifacts.

Needless to say, seeing someone else attempt a few things of what his uncle could easily do was enough to bring him over for a gander. So when the questions went around on what each would be interested in perhaps creating, Micah would wonder to himself what that would be.

"Mentalism protection." he'd finally say.... although adding, "Is there a way to get better with luck?"

or piloting...

[member="Micah Talith"] [member="Dair Cotarin"] [member="Morgana Forceborn"] [member="Serena Bouie"]

"Hmm, well, Micah, there is no luck, there is the Force, or at least so it is claimed. I cannot help with that or the piloting, except to recommend some good flight instructors I know."

"Padawan Cotarin, that would be possible, for sure, we will deal with that later."

"Padawan Forceborn, that will be an interesting second exercise me. Remind me once we have finished the first tutorial."

"It seems as though the main discussion is an item of mental resistance - good - I have created several of these already. However, before we begin, some very brief fundamentals. As you all would be somewhat familiar with the theory of Alkahest, I will not go into too much detail. Suffice to say that the Force is a duality. The Dark and Light are opposed forces, and everything one can do the other has an opposite. Sith Alchemy is a powerful ability, and though I have not the experience yet with Alkahest, this is genuinely an opposite and hopefully a counter."

"This item we are creating is an amulet of mental protection. It is only usable by one who has command of the Force, and only the one it is attuned to. It will enhance your skills of mental resistance - it will not make you immune or protect you if you are not focussed. With those restrictions in mind, are there any questions before we begin?"

While it was true the majority of people wanted mental resistance amulets, including Morgana, it was a little odd to hear the requests from both [member="Micah Talith"] and [member="Dair Cotarin"] . Something that could increase luck sounded more like a fantasy than anything Morgana ever heard of. Though a gauntlet that was strong enough to repel lightsabers sounded a lot more powerful and useful. When [member="Phylis Alince"] had told to mention her other request later Morgana only nodded. After that she listned and understood the aspects and properties of the amulet, which made all the more sense because of the force sensitive person needing to focus to make a majority of powers become real. Without it the amulet would just be another shiny trinket.

An amulet of mental resistance was the perfect item for the Jedi. After all, mental defense was the gaping hole in his arsenal, and any means of closing it was more than welcome. However, before he embarked upon the journey of Alkahest, the pracitioner of Art of the Small required that his curiosity be sated.

"Master Alince," he began, "I do have a question regarding Alkahest in general. What, if any, is its relationship with living beings? From what I understand, Sith Alchemy exists in two forms: the corruption of life and the corruption of matter, in essence. As Alkahest is the pure counter to this malevolent tactic, is it possible to anoint the living? Can we elevate non-sentient creatures with blessings of the Light?"

With that said, the Jedi Master regarded the woman with a nod of respect before stepping forward to join the mustered group.

[member="Denko"] | [member="Morgana Forceborn"]

"On that question, Master Denko, I must say I simply do not know. I have not experimented with it on living creatures, and biology is rather outside of my field of expertise. I would be willing to assist a Master such as yourself if you wished to try. I suspect though that such a thing would not be easily possible. Rather, my suspicion is that Alkahest will make the creatures more docile, make them healthier and more intelligent...but not raise them to sentience. However, that is just a suspicion.

"Any other questions?"

Well, there goes that idea, he'd muse to himself with a sigh.

So much for attempting to counter the Talith curse of constantly crashing when piloting. Trust me -- he had tried piloting lessons, his mother still continued to try. And while he understood the theory, the idea behind entering nav points, and how hyperspace worked -- for some reason something always went wrong.

It was something he was determine to overcome one way or another. It might likely end up with several broken bones and the like before that day would come.

A puff of hot air would blow his bangs off from his face, followed by a toss of his head. An amulet of mental protection? Hmm.

Okay.

He would lean forward a bit closer to make sure he didn't miss anything.

Serena listened it was one of her better skills. As a scientist she often had to listen before proceeding, so now was the case. She took a breath, she had not thought of some of the things the others did.

Perhaps her view wasn't wide enough. "Master Alince while the mental resistance would assist with attacks, is there a flip side that would give a greater mental acuity? "

She smiled unsure if she had worded her question correctly.

An amulet for mental protection was certainly something the Chief Healer would have use for. As a Force practitioner her own abilities were very limited and her own mental fortifications rudimentary at best, even with the lessons from Diana. Bolstering this one of many weaknesses was an easy choice to make. She nodded to Phylis' opening statements about the item in question.

Her other choice?

She might've considered the Amulet of Healing were it not for the Healing skills and Crystals she already possessed.

Panacea. It seemed like a highly complex thing to create. Perhaps not best served in a group setting, but Avalore would be sure to speak with Phylis about it later.

Phylis shook her head. “It will not help you attack. Remember, the Light is used primarily for defence. Perhaps I will find a way to do so in time, but for now, no.”

She led them to the middle of the room where she could show off her impressive forge setup. It was a mix of ancient and modern tech. The old bellows and coal furnace had been replaced with a modern kiln like setup. On the other hand, there was a lot of manual work involved compared to modern jewellery creation.

“An amulet is both easier and trickier than a ring at the same time. Unlike on the ring, it is a set crystal which is the focus rather than the ring itself. The key difference between regular forging and Alkahest is the infusion of the Force into the metal. So, first of all, let’s get one of you to man the bellows. We will be making this amulet out of gold, so the forge will need to be hot enough to melt gold.”

She held up a small nugget of gold and put it into a ceramic crucible which was then placed with telekinesis in the furnace.

“Now, is anyone here proficient with the use of Force Light?”

Dair stepped up to the bellows and laid his hand on the upper stave possessively. He was near 2 meters tall, well muscled and looked like he still had growing to go. He removed the outer part of his robe and began to pull the top stave down to the bottom. He then let it back up and repeated the process. He gave each pull an even length of time to create a consistent airflow pattern. He would continue until time to stop.

Yep she knew she had worded it incorrectly, she meant against attack instead of sounding like using for attack. That's what her writer gets for not paying attention. But still Serena nodded to remember. Force light, yes she could use force light but she did not wish to seem like the over eager student she instead waited to see if anyone else would say something, if they did not she would raise her hand.

Serena was leaning over the edge of her desk looking over the set-up that Master Alince was using for this class. Ohhh she was taken in by it, Serena looked again, it's a hearth she thought. She looked for the tuyere, and she saw the bellows. Oh so the air would help the fire burn hot, which would then heat the crucible, and melt the metal. She smiled, she liked this. She leaned to one side.

If anything Serena was a student at all times.
