GENERAL INFORMATION

Unit Name: Rim-Guard Cadre

Classification: Force Sensitive military unit
Description: The Knights of the order wear a plate armour which has its origins with the original Knights of Zakuul, gilded armour consisting of various segments which allows for a mixture of protection and flexibility. Additionally they are carrying shields and lightsaber-pikes, offering an unusual sight in the galaxy with their seemingly ancient equipment.
They are very reserved individuals, usually calm and distanced in the face of anyone outside their order, but they are showing extreme comradeship towards each other and have an undying loyalty to their superiors, especially their founder. Additionally to that, except for the higher ranking officers, none of them is revealing their face to an outsider, making the identification of individual members as well as an estimation of their real numbers very difficult.

Combat Function: Serving as the official retinue of Ecthelion Aiglos, there are rarely ever seen more than a dozen individuals at once at one place, even less showing their face. They are dedicated bodyguards, but also act as soldiers, envoys, spies and even assassins for the will of their master. In pitched combat they pair up to fight in couples with one taking the offensive while the other remains on the defensive and therefore being able to block and disable most single opponents with ease, their organic switching between the roles also offers an edge against veteran opponents.

Strengths:

Force Sensitive warriors: Trained and educated in the ways of combat both physically and with the Force these individuals are strong opponents even for battle proven Force users.
Versatility: The cadres can be put into use for a good variety of tasks, allowing for a flexibility in each of their deployments and missions, going for maximising the chances of success.
Zeal: Their loyalty to the cause and man they are serving is unshakeable, both indoctrinated with psychological manipulation as well as with help of the Force, these agents would jump in front of any bullet fired at their master, but also for a comrade.
Anonymity: They are faceless except for their highest officers, with very little marks of identification on them which could help to identify individuals.

Weaknesses:

Replacements: Due to the extensive training and effort needed to be put into each individual during his or her training and lecturing, they are incredibly difficult to replace.
Artificial loyalty: A strong Force user, especially someone very apt in the forms of Mind Trick could break the 'charm' put on them by Aiglos, which could let them hesitate or even turn on their master.
Brothers in arms: Despite their excessive and exceptional training, they cannot compete with the duelists of the Galaxy as individuals. They are raised to fight together and where this comes as strength, it becomes a weakness when they are not able to.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Roughly six years ago Ecthelion Aiglos departed on a classified mission into the Unknown Regions aboard his recently recovered ship, The Phalanx. Due to the availability of star-maps of the old Eternal Empire, they were able to navigate to the worlds of the ancient realm which were more or less lost when Zakuul was overthrown.

As part of the mission and to reinforce his yet small complement, Aiglos decided to search the worlds and civilisations he found for Force sensitives and to recruit them, more by force than by choice. With a combination of psychological indoctrination and strong usage of the Force, he was possible to create Force warriors which were loyal to him and accepting his training regime. The first generation is nearly five years old, while the latest addition lies just a few weeks back.

Stationed on The Phalanx, the cadres of the Rim-Guard, as they are publically known, are living, training and spending most of their time in a secluded area. Protected and guarded by droids, there is little chance that ordinary crew members accidentally run into them.

To the public they are acting as a small retinue of Ecthelion Aiglos and acting as his lieutenants and bodyguards while they fulfill a much larger variety of tasks, hidden even from the controlling eyes of Aiglos superiors.

During the mission in the Unknown Regions and Wild Space the purpose of the cadres developed further into that of envoys, spies and assassins, negotiating or forcing situations the way they were desired. Their training regime actually increased with the passing of time and got further and further refined, especially after the a few years and more trainers being available. Their duty extends to 365 days a year, the idea of family, hobbies, privacy having gone totally extinct on them.

From the outside a Rim-Guard Cadre usually has eight members, led by Paladin or higher ranking individual, paired as four couples of knights, one the shield-bearer the other the spear-bearer, the offensive and defensive designation in each pair.

When among each other, the Rim-Guard Cadres refer to themselves as The Most Holy and Eternal Orders of His Benevolent Majesty the Eternal Emperor of Zakuul in memory of the last Eternal Emperor of Zakuul, Valkorion, They are fiercely devoted to the memory of prosperity, stability and justice, opposing any form of degeneration, decadence and lack of control.

STRENGTHS

Handcrafted: All armours are crafted to suit the individual bodies of the Rim-Guard cadres members. Therefore they allow a maximum of comfort, flexibility and protection.
Half-plate: The armour can be defined as a half-plate armour, allowing for a good protection of the wearer while allowing a good manoeuvrability and flexibility, not hindering fluid movements and decreasing the exhaustion from fighting in it.

WEAKNESSES

Lightsabers: The armour is not made to protect against lightsabers and can only save from very short contacts with such a weapon but will not prevent any serious piercing attempt.
Heavy Armour: Despite its custom build, it is still a suit of heavy armour and it will exhaust the wearer in prolonged combat.
Unique sets: Due to the individuality of each set, they are time-consuming to maintain and not easy to replace.

DESCRIPTION
With the mounting of the expedition into the unknown, Ecthelion Aiglos had the intention to gather and find new sources of power for his service and himself, therefore he made certain preparation in regards to supplies and equipment, as well as those who could work with it.

When the first cadre of Rim-Guards was recruited and slowly turned to their service attitude, a solution for their equipment was needed and inspiration was taken by the original Knights of Zakuul as well as including modern developments. A half-plated set with the addition of scale armour and a coat of reinforced armourweave beneath was designed, a general concept but applied to every individual as a handcrafted set. Its aim was to protect mainly from damage which was least suspected and expected, therefore protecting against snipers, explosives and assassins instead of obvious, direct encounters like with lightsaber wielding opponents.

The armour is manufcatured by a group of metallurigst and armoursmiths on board of The Phalanx which was privately contracted by Aiglos. Taking measure on each knight after their indoctrination, the plates and other parts are designed to fit like a second skin. A special addition to this hand-crafting and individual forging, is the engraving of the new name of the knight on the inside of the chest plate. It is not their birthname, but a name of choosing and for every deed accomplished, for every achievement and fulfilled task, another name is added.

Clad in his ancient Zakuulan armour but with a neatly folded addition of a red toga-like cape around the shoulder covering parts of the chest and back, he calmly steps into the governor's palace, in his hand a mask for the, in his opinion useless, masquerade. It very much resembles a death mask, bare of any emotions but gilded.

The armoured boots clanking on the polished marble floors while he 'disappears' in the crowd. As if a golden-red giant could simply disappear. He takes a glass of champagne and would occasionally sip from it, more to meet the protocol than to his liking.

He would slowly and steadily aim to make his way to the Empress, the one he never met yet. In his way there he would, with exceptions, only engage in very brief and formal conversation.

DESCRIPTION
Macharian Industries was formed under the supervision of Ecthelion Aiglos of the Rim-Guard Order. By no way involved in the day-to-day business, he is the sole direction giver and board member, controlling the company.

The Corporation was formed by a variety of companies in the Unknown Regions and its purpose is to provide the Rim-Guard Order with a new source of income as well as providing equipment, technology and ships. There is a public series of products which are sold, daily needs in a variety of fields and there is a private series of products which is exclusively for the needs and supplying of the Rim-Guard Order.

The Corporation is secretly controlled by the Curia Magna Division of the Rim-Guard Order, all leaders of departments, subdivisions and so on are sworn members of the Order, even though they are not Paladins.

The company also is involved in the development and research of the refinement, improvement and advance of the program of enhancing the paladins of the order. It is an own subdivision, classified and separated from the rest of the corporation.

RATIONALE
Once Ecthelion Aiglos settled off into the Unkown REgions to find bits and pieces of the ancient Iokath technology, he developed a plan to provide himself a powerbase which could provide him with everything he would need.

This included the acquisition and takeovers of local companies and forging them to a bigger corporation. Every time they stumbled onto a new company which could prove useful, they offered a friendly takeover or threatened with a forceful replacement of all its leadership. Over the years they acquired a variety of companies and industries, melting them ever together and slowly forming a good sized corporation with a variety of departments and possibilities. As soon as Ecthelion returned to the Eternal Empire, the de jure headquarters of the Macharian Industries Corperation was established in Arcenon on Kalidan.

DARTH VERADUN

Veradun is a tall man, towering at more than seven feet in height and has a muscular stature, forged in his life as a mineworker and warrior. In his teenage years, when his body started to grow as well as his Dark side attunement and his corrosion of the lungs, he slowly started to lose all of his body hair, which gave him an intimidating look.

Added to that was his pale skin, no sun in the universe could tan him, the working in a mine and the total seduction by the Dark side have turned him and will keep him a pale man. His features are well defined, with strong cheek and jaw bones, but a hollow cheek itself, highlighting the structure of his face and if he would not be so bulky, his head would look like a skull.

Since his escape from the colony and meeting proper industry and technology, he is wearing a respirator, which takes most of the pain he suffers from breathing. Since then his Dark side corruption also increased exponentially, turning the eyes into glowing coals with yellow irises and detoriating his skin with visible veins as well as aging it far beyond his actual age.

Personal Alignment: Chaotic Evil
Primordial Violence - Lord Veradun is devoted to violence, to war and to conflict. A force of nature which unleashes itself onto the Galaxy. He is a passionate fighter, loves to kill but also honours those who stood valiantly in his way. His talent with the lightsaber is extreme, though the actual technique has room for improvements while his experience is ever expanding.

Son of Belial - He was taught by his first master that where he came from, the Dark side of the Force is called Belial. It somehow stuck and Veradun still calls it like that from time to time. His Dark side attunement is absolute and he embraces every letter of the Sith Code without doubt, conflict is the base for development and progression, peace is stagnation. War shall never end. The strongest suppliments for his emotions are anger, pain and fear. Anger because he suffers in pain and still feels fear, pain of his lungs and fear to lose the power he has gained, fear to see the Galaxy stagnate under the rule of Jedi, wrong Sith and worse, which also awakens the hate towards these parties in him.

Juggernaut - Veradun has suffered a lot of wounds, injuries and went through a lot of pain in his life. It fuels him when he feels it, but he also grew a strong resistance against pain. Being wounded by bolts, swords, claws or fangs, lightsabers, blasters or grenades, most parts of his body can tell one story or another which made him suffer.

Detoriation - The burden of every Sith or Dark sider who is embracing the Dark side, is the decaying and corruption of the body. Even though Veradun is only thirty-one years old, his skin looks like that of a fifty year old. Every use, every emotion is driving him closer to his death, carrying him with slow steps to his own demise.

Young - Veradun is still young and his contact to the actual galaxy is only a decade old, therefore he lacks experience. Experience against more powerful enemies, experience to face off against taunts or tricks of those who are veterans of combat and warfare.

Crusader - There is little place for interpretation or aspects of the Dark side, either one serves it or one opposes it, there is no middle ground. Veradun despises those who try to combine the Dark side with profane goals or ideologies. The Sith should be free of this nonsense and focus on their aspiration to mastering the Dark side instead of mastering the worlds of the Galaxy. The Dark side gives power, power gives rule and rule oppresses those who are too weak to find it themselves.

The Phalanx was cutting through the waves of hyperspace, far ahead of the rest of forces assembled for this campaign, but the call had been urgent. They had received the call for help right after they had finished the negotiations on Commenor and were about to head deeper into the Core, but then they heard THIRDAS HEAVENSHIELD over emergency coms and made a u-turn, jumping directly to Sev Tok.

The High Imperator had warrned the captain that they would face the Bryn'adûl sooner than later and he has since then read a bit about them and was disgusted by their exterminating nature. There was nothing in favour of these animals and they would not hesitate to bring them the righeous wrath of civilisation. They would soon arrive in the system and the captain was too used to the presence of his master, looking over the shoulder when the bulkhead opened, but not spotting him there.

Ecthelion Aiglos was indeed not on the bridge, even though it was one of his favored locations. The Orders Sanctum was determined chaos as the nearly the entirety of the Rim-Guard paladins prepared for war, only those who were sent Vorral and the detachment for Brentaal were not present. The equerries were marching swiftly through the main hall, most aiming for the armouries and magazines to get last minute requests of their paladins. They knew that a serious war was about them, all had access to the Bryn'adûl data and everyone was eager to show them steel.

The High Imperator was standing alone near the large entrance, his shieldbearer was checking on the droid forces and their readiness, it would be the first all out war outside the Eternal Empire and on the galactic stage. It was a perfect timing after the talks with the diplomatic head of the Silver Jedi to come to their aid right away against these animals.

Several more minutes later the sound of heavy plated boots was filling the halls of the Orders Sanctum, hundreds of paladins were streaming into the great hall, quickly arranging into their cadres and the cadres arranging into their banners. It did not take them long to stand in a perfect formation, unmoved and looking ahead. Golden warriors with shields and heavy blasters, red capes adorning their overall look.

"Brothers! Sisters! Tonight we march onto the stage of galactic war, our baptism of fire among those who fight for long. We fight no less than the monsters of the eastern fringes, the abominations of the Bryn'adûl! Savage animals who intend to destroy civilisation as we know, they know nothing but destruction and that is what we shall show them! With fire and steel we will bring their very own destruction to them.

Do not hesitate today fellow brethren, for if we falter, thousands may die at the hands of the unworthy. Victory is what I demand and no less we shall deliver. As long as we stand, we triumph, there is no retreat.

AETERNA GLORIA!"

As one man the paladins of the Rim-Guard raised their weapons and repeated the words of their master and leader. Aiglos himself had raised his pike into the air. It was not a wild or outbursting battle cry, but one of pure confidence and conviction.

"Imperators, brief your chapters. Princeps, deploy your banners to the landers. I will go with the first wave."

Some of the Imperators and his shieldbearer hesitated at the last part, but they knew better not to object and proceeded to follow their orders. Within minutes the hall was empty as the paladins proceeded to the hangars. Only minutes left till they would drop out of hyperspace near the planet to immediatly reinforce the ground forces.
