Five nights at freddy's 1/2

[member="Potato"]

Amnesia isn't very scary though. . . . .

Oh it has nice atmosphere, but at the same time I feel the monsters themselves don't provoke much fear or make situations feel tense and sadly few custom stories even really can mix it up. I find them to be funnier more than scary.

I didn't get to play it, but I thought the Silent Hill PT thing was scary when I watched videos on it. But then that might not be representative of its actual game.

Five Nights At Freddy's relies on two things: Suspense and Jumpscares. You know that the jumps are coming, so therefore you, understandably, feel the suspense. You worry that their going to come get you. Panic sets in, and you start doing everything you can to not let them get you. For example: You start spamming the lights, winding the music box (for the second game anyway) and constantly checking the cameras. To further drive the game backstory elements are added. As the games develop you get invested in the story, attempting to figure out what the hell is going on.

Amnesia, from what I've seen, and the little I've personally played, relies on various things: Some suspense (you know those karkers are there somewhere), jumpscares (damn it those karkers jumped out at me/body fell out of the cupboard), creep factors (blood, weird monsters, flickering lights, etc), and general terror. It plays on things the human mind is designed to fear. Depending on what story you're playing in Amnesia, there can also be incredibly thick story elements, adding a layer of disgust (usually) or concern for what you might find next. Overall most of it is far more balanced than FNAF. However, that means each element is a lot weaker.

Of course, the jumpscares in FNAF start to become expected, you learn sound cues, and overall they lose their edge. What starts out as a game of fear turns into a game of mass frustration, to many damn plot twists, and lots of deep sighs of irritation.

Or at least that's my opinion.
TL;DR: Amnesia and FNAF are two different games that use different scaring methods, and work differently on different people. Rawr.

Still have to play it, seen quite a bit of people play it though, but since I'm a pansy when it comes to that game it makes me wonder how I'll play anything else that is scary :p… but since I know the sound cues in the first game it'll make it easier… not the second game though, that stuff just looks ridiculous.

Honestly, from what i have seen and played, i think FNAF 1 is scarier than two. In jumpscare perspectives though. I mean, after a while, if you know that you didn't put your mask on fast enough and Bonnie or Chica was in the room, its not scary when they kill you. Mangle... Isn't even a hard character to avoid, New Bonnie's mask slide isn't that creepy after you have seen it a million times, and all the new animatronics are just kinda stupid. Ballon Boy's concept is good, but again, the jumpscare of Foxy or (other) isn't surprising at all. I do like the idea of winding up the music box, but unless you are afraid of puppets/clowns, The Puppet isn't very scary. You can kinda tell when you are going to get jump scared. In the end, its the stress of doing multiple things at once is what gets me, not the jump scares.

FNAF 1 had more suspense in my eyes. Foxy could peek out of his curtains at any time. Given, it is extremely easy to avoid him, but the fact that he drains power with his knocks is very creative and makes the game more challenging. Bonnie doesn't have too much that is especially scary about him, but when he gets right up to the camera in the storage area, i usually almost pee my pants. Freddy is slightly unpredictable, and the fact that you can only see his glowing eyes half the time is very nerve racking. His laugh and the footsteps from all characters always get me really badly. Chica well... Do i even have to explain her? Her creepy faces, Let's Eat!, her raspy clucking noises when she's behind your camera... You could make a FNAF with just her and the game would still be scary! Of course, FNAF 1 is more about jumpscares, which i prefer. FNAF 2 has the story that everyone wants... And i would probably play it for the story, not the jumpscares.

Don't get me wrong, both games are scary in my eyes, but jump scare wise, i think FNAF 1 has got that part down.

If i wanted something jump-scary, i would definitely either go to FNAF 1 or Slender Elementary/Prison/The Arrival.

(Lol god that sounded like a college essay... And i am such a scaredy cat in real life!! XD)

I personally haven't played the game myself, but I did watch Pewdiepie play it. The creepiness of it didn't really sink in until I watched a Game Theory episode about it. That took all the temptation to give myself nightmares completely away. You guys should seriously check it out, it's CREEEPY....

The Eternal Queen
Ooooo! Don't get me started on fnaf!! I will talk forever. The first and second are amazing. I'm obsessed right now!
