Rebreather
- Unbroken Flame: The armor is built to operate in harmony with Force use, allowing movement, perception, and control to remain clear while the system is active. Power flows without obstruction rather than being caged by the suit.
- Ignition Point Deployment: Armor deployment is triggered through the gauntlet, spreading outward like a controlled ignition rather than existing as constant mass. Mobility is preserved until the moment the wearer commits to the fight.
- Cinder-Ward Shielding: The nanite mass can condense into a solid forearm shield, capable of catching or deflecting incoming fire and close-range strikes when impact is unavoidable.
- Burn-State Commitment: Once deployed, the armor remains active through the duration of the engagement. The system is designed for sustained confrontation rather than repeated flare-and-fade defense.
- Ash-Breaker Integration: The armor supports localized counter-field technology, allowing the wearer to move and fight within hostile nullification zones without being extinguished by them.
- Flame On: The armor is designed to withstand fire and heat based on the way Irina uses the element to her advantage.
- Locked Wing State: Once the nanite armor is deployed, it remains active until the engagement concludes. The system is not designed for mid-fight retraction or redeployment.
- Heart-Ember Reliance: Armor deployment, shielding, and counter-field functions are routed through the gauntlet assembly. Significant damage to this component degrades or disables the system as a whole.
- Flame Control Demand: Counter-field devices require deliberate positioning and activation. Improper timing or rushed use can reduce effectiveness or temporarily render the system unusable.
- Ash Cycle Limits: Integrated disruption devices have finite operational cycles and require maintenance or reset after extended use, limiting their effectiveness across prolonged engagements.
- Smothering Fire Exposure: The armor is built for direct confrontation rather than prolonged exposure to heavy, continuous fire or layered area denial. Under sustained saturation, cohesion degrades over time, forcing reliance on movement and pressure rather than endurance.
Gerwald did not plan to make Irina Jesart a new suit of armor.
He noticed the problem first. Irina fought the way she lived, moving forward once she decided and never looking for an exit she did not intend to use. She did not ease into fights. She committed to them. The armor she wore held together, but it did not keep pace with her. Gerwald saw the damage reports. He saw how close the margins were getting.
That bothered him more than he liked.
So he began making changes. Not to improve her, but to keep up with her. The armor needed to come on fully when she chose to fight and stay there until it was over. If she was going to burn through a battlefield the way she always did, then what she wore needed to survive that choice.
Irina tested it without ceremony. She always did. When the armor came online, it stayed. She felt the difference immediately and adjusted without being told. Gerwald watched and said nothing. He rarely praised what should have been expected.
Gerwald had already been calling her Firebird for some time, usually when things went wrong and speed mattered more than tone. The armor took the name the same way it took her fighting style, without debate. When Irina noticed it listed that way in the system, she looked at him once and moved on.
That was enough.
He never told her why he built it. He never said it was because he had seen too many people hesitate and not walk away. He never said that he did not intend for her to be another lesson learned too late. Gerwald did not speak those things aloud.
He finished the work and gave it to her.
Irina wore the Firebird armor the same way she wore the name, confidently and without apology. Gerwald watched her leave and accepted what he already knew. Fire like hers did not need to be restrained. It needed something that could stay with it long enough to matter.
