Soresu! Done correctly you can fight any force user and be successful. It's not so fun to write because sometimes it can get boring, especially if you are fighting someone who refuses to tire down, but one on one with light sabers I would take a master of Soresu vs anyone.

I don't really have a favorite, as I really just like the lightsaber, but if I'm going by character and their favored styles:

  • Braith prefers a combination of Djem So and Juyo
  • Lisette isn't exactly the best at lightsaber combat, but she prefers Ataru. (Okay, she might be the better of my characters in that regard)
  • Silara was a master of Makashi, and made short work of two masters of Soresu (PCs), though she still never managed to beat down Corvus.
  • Lily wasn't exactly good at even using a lightsaber, but she did try to make some use of Shii-Cho.

  • Ashin's Shii-Cho
  • Shule/Je'gan was Soresu and Makasi
  • Velok was Djem So
  • As a younger woman, Rave preferred swords and knives; she had some training in a strain of Atrisian sword combat that's comparable to Shii-Cho
  • Selka was Makashi before she got Force-severed
  • Ember's Djem So
  • Mara is Makashi
  • Boolon was the Jedi Order's worst duellist. Then he hurt someone by fumbling and he started learning Soresu. He was still pretty minimal at it when Mierin killed him.
  • Jorus is shotgun-fu

Saran's an Ataru specialist who thoroughly integrated trakata into her fighting style. Also, she tends to attempt the reverse.

Anarya's soresu, but not much of a fighter.

I'm not so sure about Grace, as I've never had her in anything close to a fight. I think she's somewhere in Makashi, but I don't know.

As far as favorites, I think Niman would be mine. If you're willing to be absolutely dedicated to it, you can do ANYTHING with it and don't have any weakness.

Or, if you're lazy, Djem So is the best if you have the strength to pull it off.

Honestly? None of them... I'm going to have Julius learn all 7 so I can blend and do whatever I want ICly. I know that this is Star Wars, and realism only goes so far, yadda yadda. But as a person with *actual* sword training (over a decade now... Gods I'm old) I look at the lightsaber forms and just have the inexplicable form to cause harm to whoever invented them. Very little in them represents sound combat practice, even with Space Magic(tm) thrown in.

However? If I had to pick one? Makashi comes the closest to actually resembling half-arsed correct swordsmanship.

Personally, my favorite to write is Ataru. Psychic laser sword samurai mages should have an appropriately ridiculous fighting style, and Fabula has long transcended the idea of "stamina" or "gravity" when it comes to fighting. For this specific character, she's some kind of mutant combination of Ataru, Djem So, and Juyo.

Basically I take every ludicrous, impossible stunt you'd have to be a reality-warping space wizard to perform and throw it all into one character, then call it "style." >.>

I've got sort of my own blend going on.

Based off Makashi, with elements of the NJO's Strong style incorporated in, on account of Eralam's physical strength, with practical gunplay thrown in for good measure.
