The soft hum of the speeder's engine filled the air as Valery guided it along the scenic route toward the bustling Alderaanian city. Verdant hills and crystalline streams framed the horizon, the natural beauty of Alderaan a stark contrast to the muted excitement of the passenger sitting beside her.

"Looking forward to this?" Valery asked, her warm smile reflected briefly in the speeder's polished dashboard.

"Sure," Vera replied from the passenger seat, her tone flat but not unfriendly, the hallmark of a teenager caught between indifference and curiosity. She leaned back in her seat, one hand idly adjusting the loose braid in her dark hair, her amber eyes fixed on the road ahead.

Valery chuckled softly, recognizing the tone all too well. "You'll have fun," she assured, casting a quick glance her daughter's way. "Clothes shopping with friends, getting out of the house and Temple for a bit — it's good for you."

Vera rolled her eyes, though a small smile betrayed her. "As long as you're not the one picking clothes for me."

"Hey, I have good taste," Valery countered with a humpf, but Vera just grinned, "Sure, Mom."

The city loomed ahead, its spires and bustling streets becoming clearer with each passing moment. Valery slowed the speeder as they approached the arranged meeting point where Vera's friends would be waiting.

"Alright," Valery said as they pulled into a designated parking spot. She turned to Vera with a grin. "Ready to take on the city?"

This was the first time Zaiya had ever spent with Aris's mom, Grandmaster Valery Noble, in a social setting. Much less, out shopping for clothes. It made her equally nervous as it built up plenty of anticipation. The first time she met the Grandmaster had been in one of the most mortifying scenarios, having been caught sneaking into the Temple to try and witness Shan's knighting ceremony. Getting caught by the guards and then brought to Valery, who she then discovered was Aris's mom, had been so embarassing -- oh the sort of first impression she likely made! Especially since she had been sneaking in with her friends help for months!

Plenty of time had passed since then, but it didn't help the typical over thinker wonder if Valery was okay with her presence or even liked her. Well, even aware of her? She was Aris's best friend, but she didn't know exactly what he told his family about her. He tended to keep his thoughts to himself unless prompted, and even then, they came out few and far between -- Zaiya had yet to learn that Aris and Valery actually had quite the close relationshp yet.

Either way, Vera Noble Vera Noble , Mahsa Mahsa , and even Azurine Varek Azurine Varek were to join them, so it wouldn't be too weird, right? Especially if they were all looking for pretty clothes to wear. Who didn't like shopping for pretty things to wear? Finding accessories was always lots of fun too!

Domxite was perched on her shoulder, joining her for the event. They shone in a radiant display of colorful auras and inquisitive flows within the Force. Just like with Iris, Domxite enjoyed seeing pretty things, colorful things! Being a Rainbow Gem perhaps had something to do with it, as within his droid chassis, he could shine and glow and shift color just like Zaiya as well!

For now, the tall Lovalla hummed to herself. She had arrived early -- she had a tendency to -- and rocked on her heels. She wore one of her pretty casual robes today, a soft egg shell colored one with a scooped neck that left her arms bare for her color shifting to show, tan breeches, and her boots. She left her multicolored hair in a loose braid that went coiling down her back, with her pretty Kyber clip pinned right behind her ear. It resonated with a calm, cheerful hum, a very pretty deep magenta that shifted colors into violets and dark purples depending on how the light hit it.

"This should be fun," Zaiya told Mahsa Mahsa , as they had arrived together since they were dormmates.

"Right? Right." Clearly Zaiya was a little nervous, but she was trying her best to cheer herself up.

Azurine hadn't quite known what to expect going shopping again. She couldn't exactly remember which event this was for at this point, but what she did know is she had no credits left and hadn't been pit fighting for bets in a while, nor did she plan on doing so again. She'd used the last of them when she went out to buy some material for the Life Day gifts she was crafting, which, of course, was a surprise. With a weight finally being lifted from her shoulders in recent days, she had picked back up a hobby of hers from childhood, metal carving, and figured she should use that talent to show her appreciation.

Well, I'll just have to find some other way to make money.

Had she not wanted to fly there herself, she would have taken the offer to ride with Valery and Vera. She couldn't exactly pass up any opportunity she had to sit in the pilot's chair. She'd often been found sitting in the cockpit of one of the ships at the temple hangar for meditation. It was a safe space, a freedom, where she felt the most calm. She was going to need to get her own ship soon, and she had just the idea of what to get—or really what to have fixed up. Until then, one of the faster shuttles with hyperspace capabilities would suffice.

Flipping some switches on the console, she set the ship down on a landing pad close to the meeting spot. Taking the helmet off and sitting it beside her, she headed out the shuttle doors. Her biological left hand wrapped around the round metal talisman around her neck, rubbing her thumb across it. She hadn't taken it off since her journey to the nexus at Ukatis.

As was tradition by now... she was late.

Booking it down the walkways and chuckling to herself about the thought that people should just start giving her a time fifteen minutes before the actual meeting time, so maybe she might be on time, she finally reached the arranged place where Zaiya and Mahsa were already waiting. She didn't exactly look like the epitome of grace, a bit of old oil staining across the jacket of her outfit that looked more like that of a smuggler than anything else. However, she had a glow about her that had replaced the former bags under her eyes along with an infectious bright fire in her energy that flickered outward through the shifting amethyst and lavender hues of her eyes.

"Hope I didn't miss too much already." She said with a grin, her hand rising to brush some of the loose short and black hair out of her face and behind her ear.

"It’s gonna be fine, Zaiya." She had watched the Lovalla nervously pace as they waited, a hand extending to catch one of Zaiya’s before giving it a gentle squeeze. "She might be the Sword of the Jedi, but that doesn’t mean Master Valery’s any different than you and I."

Mahsa could understand where her friend’s worries stemmed from, the emotions that trickled from their shared touch not too dissimilar to the ones she experienced during their mission in Tython. "Right Domxite?" A smile was given to the little droid perched on Zaiya’s shoulders, their colorfulness a compliment to Zaiya’s own.

"We’ll have lots of fun, and I bet you’ll love her by the end of today," she said, hoping to impart some confidence towards her friend. "And she’ll love you too."

Streaks of daffodil and sunflower hues adorned the loose strands that rested at her shoulders. She’d been letting her hair grow out for a while now, and while the current length still felt awkward to the Kazelrrian she didn’t outright dislike it. Her own outfit was a mixture of casual and practicality, with a simple pair of boots to round it all off.

A figure weaving through the people present caught her attention, recognizing the familiar face as they came closer. "Azurine, over here!" She gave a final squeeze to Zaiya’s hand before letting go, waving towards the Zabrak so she could spot them with ease.

"Don’t worry, we got here just a l-little while ago…" Lying wasn’t her strong suit, a few flecks of amber contrasting against the softer shades of yellow in her hair, but she didn’t wish for the Iridonian to feel bad. "Vera said they were close—oh!"

Speak of the devils and they will come. With how much time Mahsa spent around the Noble’s household perhaps it wasn’t surprising that her eyes had little issue recognizing Valery’s speeder as they pulled into a nearby parking spot.

Valery slowed the speeder to a gentle stop in the designated parking spot, turning to Vera with a smile. "Go on, sweetheart," she said warmly. "Your friends are waiting."

Vera barely waited for her mother to finish speaking before unbuckling her seatbelt and stepping out of the speeder. She smoothed down her casual outfit and, with a quick glance back at Valery, jogged over toward Zaiya, Mahsa, and Azurine. Her face lit up a little as she approached, her multi-colored eyes sparkling with excitement despite her attempts to appear nonchalant.

"Hey, guys!" Vera greeted, her tone more upbeat now that she was with her friends. "Ready for this? You excited?"

Valery stepped out of the speeder a moment later, her emerald dress catching the sunlight as she approached the group. She folded her arms lightly and smiled at the trio, her gaze warm and inviting. "Hello, girls," she said cheerfully. "Are you ready to go shopping?"

Her smile widened as she clasped her hands together. "And just so we're clear — today is all on me." She glanced at each of them, her tone firm but kind. "No arguments, no exceptions. You're not spending a single credit."

Valery's amber eyes softened as she added, "This is a day to have fun and treat yourselves. You've all earned it."

Her words carried a genuine warmth, and she hoped the gesture would make them feel appreciated and cared for. She knew they didn't have the same kind of family or resources Vera did, so today, she was determined to pamper them a little. "Now, let's go find something fabulous for each of you."

With a nod toward the bustling streets of the city, Valery gestured for the girls to lead the way.

Even the tiny Droid agreed with Mahsa Mahsa , swiveling their paint splattered head to nod and nudge Zaiya's cheek with the side of their head, his photoreceptors peering up to her as they sent an encouraging ripple through the Force.

However, it wasn't that Zaiya was feeling anxious about Grandmaster Valery Noble being... well being the Sword of the Jedi or the Grandmaster of the New Jedi Order.

It was that she was Aris's mom, and her first impression of the Lovalla was after Zaiya snuck into the temple for months until she got caught!

Of course, she'd been diligent in studying both to catch up and do her University classes since then and doing her best to show she was putting in her all, but she still didn't want Aris's mom to think any less of her. But explaining that all to Mahsa right now would take time and --

"Hope I didn't miss too much already."

Zaiya swiveled her head, hearing Azurine rush in a bit. She was flushed and mused but seemingly excited for the day.

"Hello, Azzie. No, not much. We were just waiting, too," Zaiya replied, giving a small, welcoming smile. Ever since Aris had admitted he like-liked her, Zaiya had been feeling a little bit better about Azurine, but she still didn't want to be left behind in martial training. Now, the Iridonian girl was more of a goalpost to reach in a competitive spirit.

As Mahsa predicted, Valery and Vera arrived just shortly after. Zaiya stood up a little straighter, and she gave a rippling shimmer of excited if a little nervous, color-shifting hue.

"Yes we are!" although Zaiya was a bit concerned about Valery treating them, but she didn't want to be rude. Okay, if that was the case she'll make sure she didn't pick something too expensive...

As it was, Zaiya was still nervous enough that she made sure to balance out her mental shields so she wasn't blasting her emotions too much. They were muted, but at least to the degree if she touched someone, they wouldn't resonate with one another. The point was not only to practice but also so that Zaiya didn't embarrass herself.

Which is why with her distraction and over thinking, she may have missed the curious way Valery's presence in the Force was just a bit more brighter.

Azurine let out a sigh of relief. At least she wasn't all that late to the party. That's when it hit her. Valery must have given her a time that was at least fifteen minutes earlier than the actual time to meet. Her grin turned into a small fit of laughter that she quickly reined in. It made sense. The last couple of times she thought she was late, she had ended up exactly on time.

I need to start doing that to myself: putting things into my schedule with a slack time like that.

She moved to give Mahsa a quick hug, if she would allow it. She'd noticed pretty early on that the younger padawan's preferred method of connection was touch of some kind, and since her own personal bubble was practically nonexistent, she was always happy to use such methods with anyone who preferred it. "Do you like that book I recommended so far? I know it's slow at first, but it's so good."

She then turned her attention to Zaiya to do the same. She wasn't as certain as she was with Mahsa that physical touch would be well received, but by now, she liked to think that they were close enough that it wouldn't be unwelcome. She had been much less on guard around her the last few times they had seen each other, even if her aura was still a little hesitant, so she took that as a good sign. "How's the training been going, Feathers?" She asked, giving a playful grin.

That's when the familiar view of auras came into view, Valery and Vera. The younger was the first to approach, followed by her mother—Azzie's master. Vera's energy was just as contagious as Azzie's seemed to be, adding beautiful sparks to the already lit flame of brilliant purples of eyes.

"Hey, Vera! Still getting into things you shouldn't be?" She said with a warm grin and a flash of teasing in her eyes, holding her fist out for the youngest of the girls to bump with her own. She knew she too had multiple different offenses on her record by now—one of which included borrowing one of the Jedi fighters to take it for a quick spin in the upper atmosphere of Coruscant—which was part of the fun of the comment. Despite the large age difference, they had a tendency to encourage each other's chaotic natures when together. It was hard to tell just who the bad influence really was, though it was a safe bet to call it a 50/50.

As she turned her attention to Valery, a small twinge of questioning passed through her. There was something different about the Grandmaster's aura that she couldn't quite place. A spike that seemed both within and without, yet somehow not out of place. It was a patterning she hadn't actually seen up close enough to understand fully what it could be saying. She quickly tried to shake the thought from her head, though it remained there in the back of her thoughts, poking at her curiosity.

"It's a good thing you've got it handled, or I'd have to find a legally ambiguous way to make credits really quickly. I used the last of what I had the other day." She joked in response to Valery's offer to pay. She knew by now not to question her on that matter or say that she didn't need to do such a thing because it would be met with persistent insistence. That didn't mean she couldn't give her master a little bit of hell about it, though.

A few flecks of bright pumpkin hue flared when Azurine pulled her into a hug, the action somewhat surprising though not unwelcomed by the Kazelrrian. It wasn’t long before her arms returned the gesture as a wave of merry yellows deposited into the lower half of her hair.

"I d-do…! I’ve only gotten to chapter five, but it’s really good so far." It hadn’t taken long for the Zabrak to figure out Mahsa liked to read, though the loads of her own studies had cut into her hobby greatly as of late. "Thanks again, I’ll be sure to take good care of it—there won’t be a scratch when I give it back."

Part of her had been nervous about having the Iridonian and Zaiya together today, she’d never figured out why but the Lovalla hadn’t looked to be comfortable in Azurine’s presence the times she’d seen them together before, but it seemed those worries had been for naught.

"Super excited, I’ve never been to this place before." Her grin grew as the pair of Nobles finally reached them. Mahsa was almost rocking in her feet as she patiently waited for Azurine to fist-bump Vera first, one eyebrow raising questioningly as the Zabrak hinted the brunette had gotten into things she shouldn’t have again.

"Ooh?" Her arms finally wrapped around the fellow padawan for a tight hug, strands of curious citrine cutting through the sunny yellows, as she peered straight into Vera’s multicolored eyes. "What trouble did you get into this time, missy?"

Valery’s words helped take some of the attention away from Vera then, a ripple of amber crossing her hair when the Grandmaster mentioned she’d be footing the bill of today’s adventures. It was a well known gesture of Valery by now, and one Mahsa knew none of them would be able to get out of, but that didn’t prevent the Kazelrrian from feeling slightly guilty about it.

Something else caught her attention though when the breeze shifted subtly. There was a new scent that she couldn’t remember picking up before, and as she released Vera from the hug her eyes curiously shifted from one person to the next.

They finally stopped on Valery once more, a fresh wave of citrine rippling through Mahsa’s hair as the words tumbled out.. "You smell different…?"

Valery's smile widened as she took in the vibrant energy of the group. Vera was already beaming from the attention, her multi-colored eyes sparkling with excitement as she fist-bumped Azurine and turned to hug Mahsa back with equal enthusiasm. "Hey! I haven't gotten into anything too bad," Vera protested with a mischievous grin, though the subtle glance she shot at her mother suggested there was more to the story.

Just not something to admid with a parent around.

Valery folded her arms and raised an eyebrow, but the teasing glint in her amber eyes betrayed her amusement. "Nothing too bad? We'll talk about that later," she said with a playful smirk before turning to Azurine.

"I appreciate your restraint," Valery quipped in response to Azurine's joke about finding 'legally ambiguous' ways to make credits. "But today's about having fun, and I'll hear no complaints about me covering the costs. Consider it a reward for all your hard work throughout the year." Her gaze swept over the group, warm and proud.

As the girls chatted, Valery couldn't help but notice Zaiya's careful control over her aura and emotions. It brought a soft smile to her lips — Zaiya was growing, not just as a Jedi but as a young woman learning to navigate the complexities of her unique abilities.

When Mahsa spoke up, Valery's attention shifted. She chuckled softly at the Kazelrrian's bright curiosity and hugged her arms lightly around herself as she watched the interactions. The way the group bonded always filled her with warmth, a reminder of the camaraderie and joy that came with the Order.

But then, Mahsa tilted her head and spoke, her voice cutting through the cheerful chatter.

"You smell different…?"

Valery blinked, caught completely off guard by the comment. "I do?" she asked, her voice tinged with curiosity and faint amusement as she looked at Mahsa, then glanced at herself. "What do I smell like?" Valery added with a light laugh, though there was a subtle undercurrent of curiosity in her tone. It wasn't the kind of question she expected to field, and she couldn't help but wonder if Mahsa's keen senses were picking up on something more than just her usual presence.

Vera just giggled.

Zaiya did her best to manage her usual clingy tendencies, even though it went against every fiber of her Lovalla nature. Lovallas craved physical affection -- it was like breathing for her -- but she'd learned over the last couple of years that most people weren't exactly fans of sudden hugs or leaning into their personal space. That didn't mean that with her close friends, Zaiya wasn't affectionate, she was. And she always enjoyed meeting new people, being as happy and peppy as she could be. The thing is with Azzie, though, things were... complicated.

On the one hand, Zaiya wanted to be friendly , Azzie wasn't really a rival, not when Aris had already told Zaiya he like-liked her. But that didn't stop the little pang of jealousy that flared whenever Azzie was around. She admired the older Iridonian girl's skill in combat, but every sparring match felt like a test, not just of her abilities but of how much space she could take up in Aris's world. Still, she'd let Azzie call her by a nickname, so… progress?

But when Azzie tried to hug her, Zaiya wasn't sure how to respond. They only spoke three times before; the first at the spar fields when she fought with Aris, the second time at the tea party and that had been odd especially since Azzie had worn an iridescent colorful dress that directly flared Zaiya's Lovalla sense of competitiveness, and the third time had been at the training session where they sparred together. She didn't really count the rescue mission at Tython, as everyone had been busy simply trying to survive and get out.

As it was, Zaiya's reciprocation was more awkward than she intended, a stiff kind of side hug that felt unnatural even to herself. Azzie wasn't Mahsa Mahsa , who could fling an arm around her without a second thought, or Loomi Loomi , Braze Braze , or Aris Noble Aris Noble , who all fit comfortably into Zaiya's mental map of affection. Vera was Aris's sister, and Zaiya was doing her best to get to know her better during the few times they interacted, but Zaiya knew that Vera didn't seem the touchy sort of person, the Lovalla unaware of Vera's past that had affected how she hesitated opening up to others. Even Ayhan Ayhan -- who she had come to understand communicated more through sparring than touch -- was easier to read. But Azzie? Zaiya wasn't quite sure where to put her yet.

Zaiya's mental shields stayed firmly in place, masking any stray thoughts, though she gave her best attempt at a warm smile. It wasn't Azzie's fault that Zaiya's feelings were a little tangled. Even Domxite noticed, who trilled in curiosity enough for Zaiya to blush a bit in response.

I'll talk about this later, she told them through the Force, recalling what Iris told her that she and Domxite were there to talk to when needed.

Then Mahsa's comment cut through the noise like a vibroblade.

"You smell different…?"

The chaos of greetings screeched to a halt. Zaiya blinked, tilting her head to the side, the pearly grey of confusion brushing over the mottled spots on her cheeks. "Huh?"

She exchanged a wide eyed look with Valery, who looked just as baffled. Unlike Mahsa, Zaiya didn't have enhanced senses, so she had no idea what her friend was picking up on. Was that something you just… said out loud? Zaiya's cheeks flushed pink, embarrassment sparking on Mahsa's behalf.

Before things got any more awkward, Zaiya plastered on her brightest smile, the colors on her skin fluttering into warm, soft golds. She was quick to redirect the conversation, her tone light and cheerful.

"Thank you so much, Grandmaster! We really appreciate everything you're doing for us," she said, the words tumbling out in a practiced cadence. "I'm sure we'll have so much fun. And who doesn't love trying on pretty things?"

With a little flounce in her step, Zaiya turned to the group, beaming. "So! Should we shop first or grab a snack? Your call!"

The conversations around them had almost come to a screeching halt when she’d spoken, and the sudden silence that wrapped over them was almost deafening. It made the Kazelrrian realize she might’ve commented about something she shouldn’t have once more, the voice of Corazona von Ascania Corazona von Ascania echoing in her mind as Mahsa remembered the Knight’s lesson about interpersonal relationships dos and don’ts.

"I do?"
"Y-Yeah…?"

Her voice trailed off as she answered Valery’s initial question, varying shades of coral hues rippling through Mahsa’s hair while her cheeks flushed as the girl’s embarrassment grew. "What do I smell like?" Though she knew the Grandmaster wasn’t offended, the soft laugh in her voice and body language told Mahsa as much, she still found it hard to answer Valery’s question—partly due to her own worry of making things more awkward, but also because Mahsa wasn’t certain how to word what her nose had picked up in the first place.

Zaiya’s voice, light and cheerful, broke through the silence like a lifesaver—providing the group with options for them to focus on instead of the uncomfortable turn their earlier chatter had turned into.

She didn’t miss the quiet giggle from the brunette or the way those multicolored eyes had been pointedly staring in her direction, the Kazelrrian quietly bumping her shoulder against Vera’s arm as she assumed her friend was just amused by the unfolding events.

"It m-might be better to go shopping f-first…?" Zaiya’s question reminded Mahsa of the first time she’d come here with vera, a similar discussion carried out as the girls had wondered if to shop or eat first.

Azurine took note of the faint shift of color against her as Mahsa’s hues swirled—vivid streaks of orange flickering into view before mellowing into softer yellows. The subtle exchange of emotion was as telling as words, and while Azzie wasn’t fluent in the visual language of Mahsa’s Kazelrrian traits, she didn’t need to be, as the aura patterns of emotions shifted and changed to give her a better idea of what she was seeing. "Everyone loves a good mystery novel, right? I'm just glad you like it!"

She quickly noticed the discomfort and stiffness of the hug to Zaiya, and though she had hoped after their time in the Broken Gate class she had broken through some of her guard, she had to remind herself that most people didn't use fighting as a simple way to get to know someone the way she did. She was pretty sure it wasn't her brash demeanor, but very likely something connected to what Braze had said to her about the connection between her and Aris that set the Lovalla on edge. Regardless, Azzie was content to let the matter rest for now. She had done all she could to reach the olive branch out for her, and when she was ready, it would be there for her to take.

"Nothing too bad is definitely code for you should have let me in on it." She said to Vera with an exaggerated fake pout that added to the joke.

At Mahsa's sudden observation, Azzie raised an eyebrow and glanced at Valery, stifling a chuckle. As they started moving along, she let those who knew the planet better take the lead—whatever they had in mind, she'd easily go with—but she wasn't about to just drop the conversation given what she had picked up on herself. "Alright, Mahsa, you can’t just drop a line like that and not elaborate. What’s the verdict? Flowery and refined? Sweaty Jedi workout chic? Spices from that high-end tea Master Valery would never admit she splurged on?" Her grin widened, and she gave a quick wink. She didn't necessarily allow much time for an elaboration, given that she, too, had noticed something very different that she was still trying to decipher from the shapes and shifts of the aura patterns around her master.

"She's got a point, though. Well, my nose is absolutely not that good, but my eyes are. And your aura has a bit of a shift, like a split, that I can't figure out." She admitted her own observations with a quick shrug, though the curiosity was maddeningly poking at her. It didn't seem to disrupt anything, and she didn't see any unhappiness in the patterns, so she assumed it wasn't something she needed to be concerned about, just something out of place.
