"What about using our tutor so Kellan can learn trade languages alongside Phoebe? She's been doing really well with Huttese, Sy Bisti, and eventually we will get in to some others. Lia supplements her lessons but we also pay for in-person. I'm sure we can add in Kellan if you so desire. It will only help in the future."

Trade languages were for more than just business. If Kellan was going to follow a Jedi path, it would take him to far flung places, Makai assumed. Beyond basic, Huttese was often used by spacer and backwater types to conduct deals or merely communicate. As Balun brought up the mention of being a mediator between himself and the Order, Makai shrugged.

"I prefer not to be trying to hash out the basics of teaching phonics with some wizened Jedi who has been teaching for the last forty years. So, sure, be the go between. If I have to speak to someone directly I'm sure Thirty-Seven can make it happen. Shouldn't be too big of a problem at all."

Finishing his lemonade, Makai placed the bottle back in the basket. Head turned towards Balun once more.

"Why did you change your mind? Seemed pretty set in your ways back in that bar."

"That would be really beneficial for him, I agree. The Jedi do teach linguistics, but I think Kellan would prefer to learn alongside Pheebs, so yeah, I think he'd quite enjoy it" Balun agreed, although lessons regarding the Force and Jedi ideologies would still need to be included throughout his curriculum.

"There will, of course, be aspects of his learning that your tutor won't be familiar with, but we can divvy his subjects up over time. There's no set duration for this program; it's purely up to his learning speed. Some students choose to continue and make a career out of the Agricorps, so there's really no rush," Balun added thoughtfully, raising his cigarra to take a drag while watching the two younglings playing together and enjoying the day. Fortunately, Kellan had a head start in learning from the Jedi perspective, Balun having been teaching him gradually over the couple of years he had been old enough to begin grasping the juvenile lessons.

Makai Dashiell Makai Dashiell 's question wasn't surprising; in fact, it would have been unusual had he not wondered what had prompted such a turnaround from Balun. "A combination of things, really. It's difficult to explain", he answered reluctantly, considering how to verbalise his changing his mind. "Before I became a part of this family, after leaving the New Jedi Order, I thought I could best serve on the warfront with the Tingel Arm Coalition. I learned to fight and focused much of my student life on it, risking my safety and well-being to protect others. I still experience vivid nightmares from those years, and while I try not to dwell on my past, I want my son to find another way, a better way as a Jedi. That is at least one of the reasons..." he surmised, falling quiet for a moment as he thought to himself, brows furrowing some with the awful notion of Kellan living as he once had.

"Since my Knighting, I've been trying to step up. Sort my chit out some more. There are times when we need to think beyond our own perspectives, no matter how right we might think we are, and this is one of those times. That's what I'm trying to do here with Kellan. I would prefer for him to remain close by, within reach where I can oversee his progress...-But what I want and what's best for him are two different stories".

"I get that." Either something happened or his brother had a big revelation that things were shifting in the galaxy. "We were enjoying Joiol but the action keeps getting a little too close. Phoebe needed to be somewhere stable and quiet, hence why I've got to invest in brining the company out this way. Corporate Sector Authority wouldn't allow too much disruption to trade in my opinion. Downside is travel time and a bit more extended time away from the kids when we do go out....but its worth it."

In his eyes, it was doubly worth it for Kellan. Makai watched quietly at the Jedi and Sith fought, read the news stories or reports from his children's charity. Extermination of force sensitive children was not unheard of. While Kellan would be getting instruction from his Jedi tutor, it was much different than being stuck at a academy with a pack of others with little way to defend. He invested heavily in security for Lythos IX and his father-in-law had for Orron III. Bodyguards were abundant. A chance to keep his nephew from being potentially caught in the crossfire, or worse, targeted due to his last time plus Force sensitivity.

"Its going to suck for you big time, I hate even leaving Phoebe for a few days. We will take good care of him though. I think he will benefit from having Ellie around as a mother figure. Or even Danger to some small extent. Kid that age is certainly starting to notice why his isnt around so maybe this can be the next best thing. Doesn't replace the real thing but it does help, I know from experience."

"Mm, I do worry about the old man. The Inner Rim seems to be getting hotter with activity recently, between the Sith, the Mandalorians and the High Republic. I imagine Dad wasn't so keen to just up and leave," Balun replied, soon taking another drag from his cigarra while dropping his gaze closer to his feet, no longer watching the younglings but thinking of their father, Judah Dashiell Judah Dashiell and the growing political and militaristic tension in the Galaxy. At least if war did break out on a larger scale, he would have the benefit of knowing his son was being kept safe and well away from the chaos of it all.

There was always so much conflict in the Galaxy, and times of peace were few and far between for the Jedi. Makai Dashiell Makai Dashiell and his family, on the other hand, lived life one world at a time, so to speak. His brother didn't have an ever-expansive gaze on the state of the Galaxy like the Jedi had to, in their service to so many various worlds and peoples, but this meant that peace was far more prominent in Makai's life than Balun's own, and for this reason, Kellan Dashiell Kellan Dashiell would surely thrive while living on Lythos IX with them all.

"It will be hard..." Balun admitted, glancing aside in Makai's direction with a small smile, "But there's no other person I'd trust more with his well-being than you and Myra. You're both amazing parents, Kellan's lucky to have you guys". Makai, having raised the point of Kellan benefiting from a mother figure, was also spot on. It was something that Balun had thought about often, but it wasn't as though he could have simply whipped one up out of thin air, as much as he would have liked. "Yeah, being a part of a full family dynamic will teach him a lot. Life, as good as we have it, isn't exactly orthodox compared to most people".

"Anyway, it's not as though I won't be checking in regularly. I tend to be on the move more often these days, and dropping in for a day or two wouldn't be out of the question, not just for Kell but catching up with you too," Balun added thoughtfully. He wanted, no, he needed to be kept in the loop for the sake of personal assurance. Kellan's ability to use the Force would gradually grow over time, though he might not necessarily have full-time guidance in learning to control it; he would sense the presence of the Force around him and in all the natural life of the soil he was sure he was working.
