Faith in Machines [Yuuzhan Vong Skirmish of Rothana]

:: HERO of KORRIBAN ::
Moderator
"Well Spira is nice all year long, but they just don't have as many naked Twi'leks as the places you suggest," Carten said with a notable amount of sarcasm to his voice.

He was trying to avoid the fact [member="Tmoxin Temi"] had just mentioned the Vong. Carten hated the Vong, and definitely comsidered this a mission where they retreated. In fact, that's exactly what he did. For a moment as he was not about to fly in without knowing f there was additional support. That was stupidity.

"We help the people," he said without hesitation. His answer was shapped by the loss he had suffered. "No offense Commanded, but the Techno Union can afford a certain loss of assets. People are more important, and if that answer doesn't make you happy, then you can forget spending my leave at your ranch."

His voice softened a bit. Carten wasn't a jerk, most of the time, and the episode with the Smoke Demon on Hypori meant he was a little more transparent with Tmoxin than others. She still didn't know the truth, but if they spent a week, or two, at her ranch, it was unavoidable. Did he want to bring her into his pain?

"If you're fine with it though, I'd love to spend leave with you at your ranch. A change of scenery my give me some perspective on a few things."

"Bothawui is no Spira, Lt. but it does have its charms," she said, smiling but pretending to distracted by the control panel of the TIE. The pilot made no move to accerlerate anywhere; he was maneuvering slowly which possibly meant he was considering her question - citizens versus assets.

And at his answer, she raised her eyebrows, but said nothing for a few moments. Tmoxin wasn't used to dissension, especially from a lower-ranking officer. But then again, she was a civilian herself now. She had retired from the military after all. He called her a Commander, but at the end of the day she was merely Carten's boss who paid his bills. And perhaps as his boss, she had been too forward with the invitation to her ranch?

Still, Tmoxin first instinct was to scold him and to level-set the power relationship between them. But something she caught in his voice, a hint of sadness. The Lt. was establishing a boundary between them, one that was forged from something in his history, something painful perhaps? She was curious but would not pursue it now.

"Very well," she said. "Civilians it is. I'll radio in to find the safest landing spot. Perhaps we can help with casulties and evacuation." Her acquiescence probably said more about her desire to have the pilot visit her ranch than any altruistic urge. And this new development - a lack of control over her judgement - also didn't quite sit well with her. Eager to have her own stubborn viewpoint reaffirmed, Tmoxin asked Carten: "I wonder what the Supreme Commander would have chosen, given the scenario I proposed? And I don't mean the visit to my ranch."

NPCs background fluff, Khallesh is inside the facility.

The air was ablaze with the plasma poured forth by the battledroids taking up defence of the facility. A myriad of colours painted the scene as the bolts lanced across the air. Khallesh was thrown from her feet as some kind of explosive hit the ground to her right. Her free hand dug into the turf as she hastily picked herself back up. Several bolts slammed into her chest and shoulder as she was targeted, but the offending droid was thrown from the roof by a thud bug.

She felt hot searing pain across her chest from the energy that passed through the Vonduun. The armour provided unparalleled protection, but it had its limitations. If she was caught in the open for too long a stream of blaster fire would bring her down.

It was not the pain in her chest that distracted her thoughts; that sensation was a welcome introduction to the battle. It was the shame that welled up there. Ahead of her she could see the first breach that had been made in the facilities parameter. Even now chazrach rushed through the gaping maw and into battle. Khallesh hadn’t been there to be part of the first charge. Her feet danced through the detritus of the first wave. The dead and dying thralls were gathered just outside the walls. In a moment she was through and into the facility.

The artificial lighting offended her senses, bet her keen eyes scanned for a target. Several droids were inexorably advancing towards the breaching, gunning down the reptoids in their path. Her lips curled up in a sneer and the agile huntress charged forwards. A magma pebble shot forwards, catching the first droid in the chest and sending it reeling.

Too late they brought their weapons around to bear, the lumbering beasts processing and re-evaluating targets as they went. There was a crack as her arachnostaff snapped out as a whip, shearing through the blaster of the first. Before the second could fire Khallesh barrelled into it, bearing it to the ground with her momentum. As it flailed on the ground the lithe warrior rolled back to her feet, turning on her heel and raising her arachnostaff high.

She chuckled at the Incinerator Squad's antics. But, the one who was complaining was indeed annoying. And he should have known what they were fighting, since it was in the debriefing. With a sigh, she looks over her shoulder to [member="Sibar Laval"] and his squad to answer them. She had enough of incinerator Jax's constant questioning, and she was on the verge of shooting him, herself.

"We're fighting Vongs, amigo. Now, I swear to whatever gods are out there, cállate!" She muttered to herself in her native tongue, shaking her head as she looked back to the transport door. She idly fidgeted with her F-11D while she waited for the transport to land. Inwardly, she sighed at the new peace she found from finally telling him to shut up. She can only hope the one called Jax would actually shut his trap...

Sibar turned towards his men as the transport landed. "ALRIGHT MEN! You know why we're here! We are the best of the best! Well, the twelfth actually we're but then the 'incident' happened, it was a sad day when-" "But sergeant, weren't you the cause of the incident?" Sibar snapped his head directly towards the voice "Yes Jax, I was the cause. The same thing will happen to you if you don't shut up! Now, when we step off this transport we will move directly towards the nearest city and protect it with our life, DO YOU UNDERSTAND?" "SIR YES SIR!"

[member="Sibar Laval"]'s threat made her chuckle to herself. He was a funny guy, really. Sure, he was kinda insane in his fascination with fire (It was almost frightening... Almost), but he was overall funny. He also knew how to keep his men together, keep the camaraderie strong. With that thought, she looks over her shoulder again to study the pyrotroopers. She gives them a small nod of respect before she turns forward and heads out with the squad of Wolves she herself was leading.

After they form a perimeter around the shuttle opening, she switches her comms to open military frequencies, connecting her channel to the Incinerator's so she can properly coordinate her forces with the other Sergeant.

"My squad will find a higher area to get the Heavy Artillery troopers set up. You're going to need heavy blaster and rocket support." Her squad consisted a total of twelve soldiers: 6 standard Stormtroopers, 2 medics, and 4 Heavy Artillery troopers. The 'heavies' carry a single DLT-19 and PLX-1, while the other two spare heavies carry additional ammo for either weapon, and spare barrels for the DLT-19, in case the barrel melts (Which it likely will).

Droid Manufacturing Facility
[member="Kur-gal Kwaad"] | [member="Tsavong Kraal"] | [member="Khallesh"]

The droid reached the roof in no time at all, the facility being constructed in such a way that pretty much everything was easily accessible.

Rigor appreciated that, instead of the convoluted and broken architecture of many worlds it seemed the Hegemonic Automaton preferred to keep their workspace in an orderly and logical fashion. As soon as the droid reached the roof it noticed the streaks of red as Coral skippers and Transports began to fall from the sky. Rigor watched them for only half a moment, projecting their trajectory and landing spots before swinging the rifle from its back and wandering towards the edge of the roof.

For a moment it stalled, placing the rifle against it's shoulder and peering through the scope.

[Three Organic Targets] It paused, receiving a small signal on its transponder. [Friendly, Requesting Assistance.]

Slowly the rifle panned away from the fat man and the two other figures, Rigor not finding the need to go down and aid them in their escape. Instead it panned the weapon towards other figures in the distance, mainly [member="Shurra Shai"]. The Vong woman stood within the smoke, her figure obscured by a dozen or so other Yuuzhan Vong around her. Rigor waited for half a moment, steadying the rifle against his shoulder. The Anti-Tank weapon was easily held by his bulky form, his metallic hands keeping it steady.

He waited a moment more, then squeezed the trigger.

Location: The Breach

Orders came in. Location came in. Prime was heading towards the breach in the droid facility. The unit was linked in with 12 other units, but yes, that was all background noise. Prime had the location of a breach in the facility and the units were on their way, firing at Vong as they came in. What Prime was looking for?

The baddest Vong in the group. The demon giving the orders, the one who Prime would identify as the leader. Stepping into the battle, there was one who was laying waste to blasters and had their unique amphistaff raised up. Prime’s units would start to spread out and the unit would be able to monitor the others’ actions.

But there was one target, the unit known as Prime was concerned with. Lining up its rifle, Prime took the shot.

Khallesh staggered backwards as the bolt slammed into her chest. It carried no momentum on its own, but the spray of superheated matter and sudden judder of her living armour was enough to make her stumble. Her eyes looked up to the machine that had stopped her in the moment of victory. Vonduun Skerr Kyrric was incredibly resilient, but it wasn't wise to push those limits. Already the heat of that first strike had reached her skin. She felt the prickly heat spread across her chest beneath the armour.

She dropped one shoulder and dove to her right. The trailing leg kicked out, catching the sensors of the droid she had been about to finish off. It dropped back to the floor. As she came up from the roll and looked for some cover, he left hand returned from behind her back. It whipped around and sent the Snap Bug arching towards her aggressor.

Hail to the Supreme Leader!
Objective: Changed from 3 to 1: Eliminate the Yuuzhan Vong (PvP)
Location: Coming up on the factory now, in position on hill to fire on enemy forces
Allies: First Order and friends
Enemies: Yuuzhan Vong forces

Kara had made sure that her squad was properly spread out. With the various rocks about, and their height advantage, they would be able to easily defend this position from any assault while also providing the Techno Union droids support at the factory. On either side of her, her squad, which had picked up a few straggler First Order troopers ( Boosting it from 12 to 18 ), was currently setting up in their respective positions. They had two DLT-19s for suppression and anti-infantry roles, coupled with a single trooper for each gunner carrying spare ammo and a total of two extra barrels each.

A single PLX-1, an outdated yet still highly effective weapon, was being hoisted by another Stormtrooper, while her radioman was currently relaying Bravo Squad's status to her superiors. There was also a single sniper and her spotter, hidden among the shrubbery with specially painted armor to blend in with the surrounding environment. Said sniper was currently targeting a rather skilled Yuuzhan Vong female ( [member="Khallesh"] ), waiting for Kara's order to fire.

Directing the PLX-1 to track the area for any vehicles, Kara moved up to the defensive line, readying her weapon and checking her belt to see if she had any thermal imploders.

Dammit, only one...

Kara sighs, giving the sniper a nod who in turn takes aim down her scope. With a single breath to steady her weapon even further than the bi-pod already was, the sniper pulled the trigger, sending a single, high-powered bolt downrange to the Vong female, passing over the 800 meters in just a few seconds.

"Suck on that, Vong schutta." The sniper mutters below her breath, still keeping her scope crosshairs trained on the Vong woman in case her shot misses or doesn't penetrate fully.

Shurra's Gear: Vonduun Skerr Kyrric, Amphistaff, Chitin Carbine, 3 Pouches of Blorash Jelly, 2 Plasma Eels

Whipped up into a literal frenzy, Commander Shai's Vong warriors and Chazrach slaves began to swarm the facility. Body and droid parts flew as organics clashed with automatons. The droid resistance was staunch, but Shurra was confident that her army would dominate the opposition. The Yuuzhan Vong had an unrivaled passion for war and destruction. They would happily tear the place apart. Droids had a passion for nothing, much less victory. They were manufactured abominations. Sins against the gods themselves.

There was a loud boom and a beam of energy shot towards her. Her bissop reared up, screeching as the troops nearby were blasted into pieces by the particle beam.

"GO!" shrieked the hunchbacked slayer, her agile mount vaulting forwards towards the cover of the facility. Along the way, she returned fire with her chitin carbine, blast bugs eating through the enemy's metal bodies. She aimed a few shots in the direction of the rooftop where she presumed her assailant [member="Rigor"] to be. As a stream of blast bugs shot towards the roof, seeking out their targets like homing missiles, Shurra made her way through the gaping maw that was the entrance to the facility.

Objective: Eliminate Vong Forces
Location: Moving around to flank the Vongs from the rear
Allies: [member="Sibar Laval"] & First Order, [member="Prime"] & Techno Union
Enemies: [member="Shurra Shai"] [member="Khallesh"]
Equipment: Standard FO Stormtrooper Armor, Standard FO Blaster Rifle F-11D, Standard issue Thermal detonators x2, x1 Thermal Imploder
Squad: 18 total, 3 heavies (Two DLT-19 gunners, one PLX-1 AT trooper), 1 sniper, 1 spotter for sniper, 2 medics, 1 Radioman, 11 standard Stormtroopers (Nineteen total troopers including Kara)

"Kark... pack up, we're moving. Sniper, you and your spotter stay here, pick the enemy off as you see fit." The sniper does nothing in answer, other than begin to freely pick of targets, coupled with the spotter calling out targets for said sniper. The other sixteen troopers are soon up and ready, and they all quickly move out, heading for another hill directly behind the main Yuuzhan Vong army.

When they arrive there, Kara directs the two gunners to set up in defensible positions, facing the horde of Yuuzhan Vong to where their firing arcs overlap, while the AT tracks the horizon for any air or armored units (IE fighters, tanks, etc.) to fire upon. Four total troopers stay behind, one carrying ammunition for the AT, two carrying ammo and the four total barrels for the Gunners, and the one Radioman to guide in any incoming artillery or air support.

The last twelve troopers, with Kara at the head, move down the hill, going from cover to cover in a leapfrog pattern while taking potshots at the enemy forces. Kara, internally, is glad the Gunners actually have good training as she looks ahead to see several Vong warriors falling from the combined fire of the primary squad and the two Gunners. She knows that, before too long, she and her men won't have their support, not directly. But, they WILL have lots of droid support, soon. Hopefully, they aren't terribly programmed...

"Keep pushing forward, we have to get inside and finish this!"

Prime was a war droid. Prime had been designed, and built , for one thing. War. Well, war, and making fashionable accessories out of the skin and limbs of enemies. It was something the former Foreman, Marek Starchaser, didn’t erase from the droid’s programming and something that the Haor Chall and Santhe Corps engineers were looking to duplicate. Each Hydra War Droid seemed to have a different personality quirk and they were hard to predict. It definitely wasn’t artificial intelligence, but there was something in the programming of making the droid spider into other units, that was broken.

The unit’s NPCs were still in the area, taking the fight to other Vong to varying degrees of success, but Prime was focused on the leader. Blaster shot was fired and the Vong looked back, pulling one of the flesh weapons out. The unit had height on the Vong warrior, but it was still working to identify the weapon. Bug…

Snap bug…

That came too late before the sensors could be shut down. Prime was not one to shut its own sensors down, relying on its data streams to hunt down its enemies. An order had gone out and the unit’s vision was changing just after the snap bug exploded in bright light. The thermal upgrade that was hypothesized was not calibrated properly and the unit was momentarily blind, reaching out to the network of units. One was going to sacrifice itself as it turned to allow Prime the ability to triangulate the location of the warrior while the optics rebooted.

Vong must die.

The Ol Reliable BlasTech weapon was trained on the Vong and fired as Prime began walking towards Khallesh.

He stood still for only a few minutes before he grew impatient, his foot starting to tap the ground as he waited for someone, ANY one to come at him. He had grow quite frustrated with his bodies performance of late and wanted to get the kinks out with a good and proper fight but even though the Facility seemed to have been breached but he had yet to see a single vong even approach his position.
With the explosions and sounds of gun fire not seeming to get any closer he called up TD-707 on the comlink. "How far into the facility has the enemy breached?" He asked simply as he began to pace back and forth, protecting the generator was important but it was killing him to wait for any enemies to show up.

Objective 1
Droid Manufacturing Facility
[member="Shurra Shai"]

The droids shift was sudden, and nearly instant.

Blast bugs were creatures meant to explode and rend apart targets, exploding and erupting in order to rend organics and even mechanical opponents. Of course, their relative strength was that of a fragmentation grenade, something that Rigor recognized, though was still weary of.

It moved with lightning speed, half lowering the rifle and half shifting it's body backwards. The blast Bugs were tracked using scanning equipment, and quickly the droid swung its heavy arm forward. Three of the black Bugs were instantly caught against it's metallic skin, crushed in an instant as their own momentum caused them to break against Rigor's hard forearm. They seemed to pop against his arm, their skin cracking and their mandibles splintering as they suddenly reacted and exploded violently.

Rigot made itself smaller, shifting as the explosion tore in front of him and grasped into his armor.

Another of the Blast Bugs struck it in the chest, half pushing the droid back as it attempted to dig its way through it's metallic body before exploding. The droid reached down and grasped the strange creature, trapping it between its fingers before crushing the life from it. The explosive element of the creature was neutralized.

[Unfortunate] Rigor stated as it saw the newly formed dent and exposed wiring within its chest, it's arm smoking and half bent in odd direction.

Before the Yuuzhan Vong could fire more Thud Bugs the Droid raised its rifle again, half a second passed and Rigor took aim, pulling the trigger a second time. This time it fired at the ground before the woman, hopefully catching her in an indirect blast and stunning her.

Khallesh kept moving. She scrabbled across the floor behind cover as she reached for the next weapon. Moving as quickly as she was, she was only vaguely aware of the sniper bolt that slammed into the ground a few feet behind her. A shot at that distance really required a stationary target and Khallesh wasn't about to stay in one place for all the will of the Gods. Coming to her feet she immediately felt the hot kiss of blaster bolts. Despite having its sensors damaged, and her behind behind cover, the infidel machine had somehow tracked her movements.

The stream of plasma caught her shoulder and chest. The gaps in the Vonduun were easy found by the accurate machine. She half-screamed half-yelled in defiance as the energy tore through her flesh. Blessed pain, earned in battle. It evoked a primal response, but it was to be accepted, embraced. Her left hand whipped around, throwing a blorash jelly at the feet of the advancing droid. The stubborn biot would inexorably reach for Prime's feet and if the throw was accurate it would hold it fast.

Khallesh dove again, trying to throw off its targeting. This time she unleashed a magma pebble. She had brought many given their effectiveness against droids and with any luck it would strike the robot in the chest and do some internal damage. This time she stayed down behind cover as the bolts lanced across the air above her. Either it would be held fast by the jelly, or it would carry on its inexorable advance. Whichever happened, she was better off keeping her head down for a moment. The smell of her own singed flesh reached her nose and she tested her left shoulder. It wasn't good. Her willing arachnostaff made its way down to her right hand, hardening into a gentle curve making something akin to a scimitar for close in slashing.

Outside the hordes of Chazrach continued to hammer away at the defences, though a number had turned to engage the forces attempting to relieve the siege. Then great shadows fell across the landscape as a number of Fire Breathers approached. Virtually impervious to small arms fire, and even small cannons, they began their advance. The flames soon cast flickering shadows across the field of battle, accompanied by the symphony of dying screams they turned the landscape to a vista of hell itself. Vagh Rodiek were seen moving in. Living battering rams, they would pave the way for the rest of the Warriors to enter the factory and continue the wanton destruction of Hegemonic's property.

Shurra's Gear: Vonduun Skerr Kyrric, Amphistaff, Chitin Carbine, 3 Pouches of Blorash Jelly, 2 Plasma Eels

It was especially detestable to Shurra that the droid firing at her from the rooftop was using an anti-vehicle weapon against her. Honor in battle was wasted on these creatures apparently. It was even more of a reason that these metal abominations should all end up in a scrap heap on Belgarath.

Their wings clacking frenectically, the blast bugs that missed their target poured back into Shurra’s chitin carbine. The slayer was almost through the entrance when the ground rocked beneath her Vonduun Skerr Kyrric boots. Shurra hissed as a massive wave of kinetic energy blew towards her, knocking her into the building. Her crab armor tightened around her protectively, segmented legs ticking, as she rolled several times and then lay on the floor, blinking her glowing red eyes in stunned resignation. The warrior felt deeply ashamed that she had fallen so quickly. There was a flogger with her name on it just waiting for her back on Selvaris for this particular misstep. With a groan, Commander Shai shuffled to her feet and began to limp through the facility opening fire, angrily on every Techno Union droid in her line of sight, giving her the vengeance she needed to begin the fight anew.

"Their advance continues." TD observed. A holomap of the facility's surface showed red in several sections of the security fences. Breaches. There were also a multitude of red splotches showing in most of the surface buildings. Housing and recreation areas were completely compromised, but of little significance. The droids were largely focused on holding the warehouses, but with the deployment of Vagh Rodiek and Firebreathers, those would be compromised within the next few hours. If they were lucky, anyway.

"Distressing."

The Yuuzhan-Vong had made inroads, but were not threateningly close to the shield generator. If they were to hold out until reinforcements arrived, TD-707 could not longer afford to hold any forces in reserve. To this end he returned communications to Lord Zrixtas. "They have made considerable ground. Reinforce the following positions, take as many droids as you require."

Coincidentally (or not), TD-707 relayed Zrixtas to the same location Khallesh was currently engaged.

Firebreathers had tough hides and anti-laser aerosals, certainly, but they had once been routed by a platoon of B2 Battle Droids. They were dangerous, destructive, harder to kill than most beasts, but hardly invincible. The facility's handful of turrets would peck annoyingly at them, offering a short foreshadowing before they were shelled with mortars. Technology had advanced since the Yuuzhan-Vong Wars. Droids were better than they were back then. But these Firebreathers were still the same. The Yagh Rodiek would meet their match for the firepower encased in TA2s. Bone armor was chewed through like paper. Yuuzhan-Vong warriors were crushed, literally, with brute strength.

The sheer volume of attackers could not be managed regardless. Positions were overrun one by one. The halls could be clouted with their bodies, but they wouldn't be stopped. TD-707 continued to escalate the urgency of his distress beacon. The ability to panic was not in his programming, and for that he was thankful. Reinforcements were hopefully on the way...

Allies: Techno Union, First Order
Enemies: Yuuzhan Vong

The Stormtroopers ducked their heads down when return sped their way. Chazrachs, the Vong equivalent of conscripts. Barely trained, yet deadly in numbers like this. Kara directs her platoon to fire on the Chazrachs, focus on moving forward as a veritable wall of armor and blasterfire. They slowly pushed forward, firing short and accurate bursts into the cascading mass of Chazrach slaves. The DLT gunners helped to keep the lesser-trained soldiers at bay, while the sniper took accurate blasts at the enemy soldiers.

Back at the hill, the Radioman contacted [member="Tmoxin Temi"] while the AT trooper took aim at the first of the Fire Breathers, locking on to it with a beep from the PLX missile launcher, before he depresses the trigger, launching the heavy AT missile at the organic walkers.

"Ma'am, requesting immediate aerial support at the droid factory! Hostile Fire Breathers and Vagh Rodieks have been sighted on the field, and will soon overrun Bravo's position, over!"

Gear: Zrixtas rk 2, Armor, 2x Daggers, 2x DC-17 hand blasters, 2x lightsabers.

As Zrixtas got the locations a slight glint showed in his eyes and he looked towards the droids around the power generator. "Stay here and call for reinforcements to your location, then reinforce and barricade this position. The rest of you come with me." He said and left a single droid behind as he moved towards the first location designated by TD-707 to him. Once there he could see the Vong rush towards him through a breached corridor.
Moving both arms forwards he opened fire with his wrist mounted blasters along with the rest of the droids and began to mow down the vong that came at him with... sticks? Zrixtas walked over the bodies of the Vong and looked over the ampistaffs, to him it was simply a living stick which made him all the more angry at them for looking down at him. "Damn karking Fleshbags." He muttered as he gripped one of the vong bodies and with a swift motion of his lightsaber cut his head off.
He came up to an opening in the wall and looked out, hordes of Vong and other creatures were pouring towards the facility. Taking one step forwards so his leg was against a broken rock he raised the head he cut off into the air with one hand and held the brightly glowing storm blue lightsaber in the other. "IS THIS ALL YOU VONG ARE CAPABLE OF? WERE ARE THE WARRIORS I HEARD SO MUCH ABOUT?!" He shouted out into the thronging mass of vong and vong shaped that were heading towards the facility, one among them would be a challenge to him and he wanted to meet him or her fast.
