Bernard - Question for the candidates: How will you empower writers to actively help shape the faction narrative?

I think I answered this within some other questions, but one of the first things I intend to do is host a "GA Town Hall". Two hours at a time that suits most people, where I set up in a VC and take both pre-written (from people who can't be there) and general questions from the member base. All of it will be recorded and shared so it can be reviewed at a later date.

Secondly, I intend to actually empower the Senate to make decisions. The actual technicalities of that still need to be ironed out (I have a thousand thoughts and no actual competent sentences yet) but I have some ideas of how that could be done.

Ultimately, I think the faction needs to trust the writers a lot more than it ever has. I accept that not every idea is a good idea but that's why we have a creative team. They can take those.... less than ideal ideas and make them something competent.

If we lose, we become an Alliance-in-Exile looking to rebuild from the ashes like a Pheonix.

If you lose, just lose. There’s no way GA gets evicted from the map, you could lose 10 Invasions and still be twice the size of most Majors. If I were MFO, I would force you all under threat of verbal violence to understand that a loss is a loss is a loss. I would even make you feel bad and just crash morale when we lose. Every other facet of society ensures a winning, positive attitude. You won’t get it here.

You want a unique experience, I’ll remind you what loss actually is. A vote for me is a vote for depression. A vote for me is a vote for tragedy. A vote for me is a vote for unrelenting sadness.

Under a Fal Gore dictatorship, you’re gonna lose so big you’re gonna say, Fal, please, I don’t wanna lose no more, please Fal, can we stop losing. We hate being losers Fal.

And I’m gonna say, “listen up you motherfuckers we’re gonna lose so big we’re never gonna stop losing”

A dying Republic is literally the story of Star Wars. I would make GA so corrupt your eyes would bleed, we’d pivot hard and LEAN INTO being corrupt. I’d let the Sith and Imperials in and let them run amok. Black Sun? Everyone gets a Senate seat and a say in our rules. I would spill gasoline all over this “bastion of goodness” the GA has tried to be, and let the entire Galaxy have its way with us.

Because they’d all be coming here.

Would people meta it? Hell yeah, try, who cares. I can already predict people would leave to form another Silver Stupid Jedi to detract membership away, but they couldn’t avoid us. Because everyone wants to be the ones to kill us off, to end the Galactic Alliance, OOC. I would use that to create an entire year or two’s worth of balls to the wall “The Fall of Rome” style RP.

It would generate so much RP, you just need to convince, or force, everyone to loosen up.

I accept, I should have clarified further.

As it was a long term suggestion, the alliance-in-exile story wasn't meant to be "oh no we've lost one invasion we're in exile now" it was meant to be more of a "oh no we've lost the war and like, most of the hexes we have" story.

I apologise for any confusion.

This would unironically be one of the more freshest, interesting directions that the Galactic Alliance could take at this point. The GA's a legacy faction with years of plots made or being redone (it happens to all of us) , and unfortunately at a certain point there's not too much else that "feels fresh" when a faction's fought hyperspace wars and expanded to the point its currently at.

I've always thought that a Fall of Rome style long-form plotline would be a fun one to play out, especially as a faction that's traditionally been seated as the biggest paragon for so long. Playing into the idea of a Republic that's buckling under the pressure of its own size and bureaucracy, struggling against external powers slicing bits and pieces off its borders, and maybe grappling with the forever debate of Jedi involvement in politics vs. the civilian government wanting to curb it, would be extremely interesting to see play out over a good period of time.

There's just gotta be a solid separation from the idea that the GA can't in all circumstances not be perceived as "being good". It feels as if it always leads to a situation where everyone has to be perceived on the right side of history, otherwise when you're actively trying to introduce some tension to make things interesting, you might be perceived as being an out-of-character troublemaker over IC intentions.

As much as I'm a big fan of shaking up an existing narrative with something fresh and maybe controversial, the culture's gotta be there so people don't feel that consequences will follow if they lean into it.

But, I don't quite have an answer for that one personally. Those deeper and more intricate cultural tendencies of chaos are more your lane of figuring out, tef!

Anyways, this thread has been an interesting follow as an older GA writer who's not activate anymore with the faction. I'm glad to see people trying to approach this situation with accountability and fresh ideas in mind!

"The "stale" argument."

1. We are "the good guys". What are you wanting the staff to do? Attack everyone willy nilly? If you are interested in some kind of dramatic event that is not simply a "Dominion" or a "Populate", then pitch something!

“You are being counseled at this very moment.”

I don’t know who this ‘Tef’ is but I 1) hate you ooc, irl, and ic and in hyperspace please never vote for me I will promote you and blame all my failings on you and then fire you in minecraft and

2) There are multiple ways to impact culture. There are intracies, sure, of which few have a firm grasp. But I think we all understand the most basic lesson of culture:

It always, always, always starts with leadership.

Whether its a Tef, a Val, a Zef, a Hamwagon, a Guy, a Wurmgod dude, never let them buck responsibility.
