I'm going to be honest here so please don't hate me. GA is starting to get a bad reputation and this back and forth game of hot potato MFO isn't helping things.
Members get ignored and ideas get shot down here. For a long time there has been a feeling that staff completely control this faction and that no matter what members do they have no effect on the outcome of stories. There also seems to be a notion that some people aren't as open to working with others, or open to stories that aren't predetermined or done in a certain way. That is a big reason why we are seeing spin off factions with similar concepts. Writing a republic/alliance/whatever government + Jedi is a classic Star Wars story and so many people want to tell it but they weren't able to do it here. That's a problem when people want to tell the same type of story but cannot do it together or find a place for their voice to be heard.
We are also starting to see factions blossom whose purpose is to eliminate this faction all together because of how it's gotten. GA has been stale for a long time, and so has the map. I think the two concepts are related.
My unpopular opinion would be to let this faction go minor and to create something new, fresh, and fun that hopefully won't drag over all the toxic traits this faction has. Now I know that won't (and probably shouldn't) happen as long as there are people willing to lead and people willing to write here. I won't nominate anybody or vote in the next election (and did not vote in the last one) because I am no longer a member here. I just want to share my experience so that whoever ends up leading can consider it for the future.
This faction is insanely difficult to get involved in and work with. Whatever ends up happening I think that is an area that should be worked on.
**Please note I am not speaking on behalf of any one faction or person. This post was not meant to target a faction, or person. I'm also not denying that there are some GA writers who have been extremely good to me.<3
Edit: Also I just found out there was some drama about going minor before. I had no idea that happened and this post has nothing to do with that. I was not a part of that conversation. From what I gather, the general consensus is that the faction feels stale and inflexible to new ideas - can't say that I've felt any different, personally. I feel like we've been trying to walk the fine balance of being a stable galactic power that's easy for new writers to OOCly find their feet in, and the idea that the GA has been spread so thin that it's become an IC weakness.
As others have suggested, the attack on the core can provide us the perfect narrative vector for a shakeup! I know I'd love to see it.

I apologize if this disappoints some people, if there were even that many that would’ve voted for me to begin with. Allow me to explain my decision:
Sometime during this past week of chaos within the GA, the topic of me potentially stepping up; should a new nomination thread be made, was broached to me. Initially I wasn’t entirely too keen on the idea, but there was some measure of support behind it, and I did have my own thoughts and ideas on what should be done to change things. Which in hindsight, should’ve been something brought up and discussed a whole lot sooner.
So I stepped up, accepted the nomination and presented what my thoughts and ideas would be through the questions presented in this thread. Through those, alongside reaching out and speaking with others of how they felt about the faction, I feel as though I have developed a much better understanding of what needs to be done.
But not as the MFO, not right now at least.
I mentioned in one of the answers, that I lack general experience as an MFO. That; alongside my own shortcomings as a member of GA Staff, I felt as though I might make more of a mess of things. I’m sure this probably comes across as being overly dramatic to some, this is after all just an RP site and a hobby, not to be taken so seriously. But it’s something people have invested time and energy into, and I wouldn’t want to further mess that up.
So I’ve spoken and discussed this with Valery: I will step down so she can become MFO again, but I’ll be remaining on Staff. This way I can do better as GA Staff, gain the experience that I am currently lacking, so sometime in the future I can more confidently step back up to this.
Changing what’s currently flawed with the GA is not going to be a simple or short process. But Valery and I are committed to seeing long overdue changes implemented. Which as brought up in this thread, will involve opening the faction up to discussion, so everyone can have their voices heard.
Just please bear with us, as it is quite the list.

Oh, I dunno, you tell me. Right now we have Professor Stale offering guarantees to her Stormtroopers to just drop from the election and form the same exact leadership that led to this situation in the first place.
You’re telling me you led GA for 2 years, nominated Amelia as your chosen successor, and upon the first mistake or sign of stress, yelled hot potato and now you’re the chosen one to fix all the problems you created. And all the old Staff, despite the glimmer of developing a spine, is like yeah I just want my comfy chair back lets back Valery.

thank you!In answer to Cora’s question of what members would want to see I would like whoever ends up in charge to update the forum more. Val did some updating before and that did help a lot. I know sometimes it’s difficult to tell things like who’s active in the senate, etc when the lists are not kept up to date or regular check ins aren’t held to tell whose even active. Alternatively allow multiple senators from the same planet, that way people don’t have to figure out what’s available to join, they can just make a character and participate.

Staff got too comfortable with the status quo and clique, and didn't push for change. Maybe there had been before I had joined, if so it clearly didn’t get far. It’s a realization I should’ve had with joining the Staff, and made an effort to push for changes to happen then. I didn’t, so this is me putting a first foot forward to correcting that error.
I get the cynicism 100%.

Her proposal... yeah... let's face it... it sucked... it DID... but only because we were mid invasion and just changing to a new MFO. So everyone read the intention wrong. It happens.
Looking back on it? You know what is wrong with it?
Timing.
That is all that is wrong with the situation. Timing.
Not "cliques", this is the biggest faction and the biggest map cloud, people WILL think it from time to time. Not "similar factions(who can be looked at as a "clique" as well if you really want to.examine it under that microscope, just like certain dark side factions and Mandalorians... it is what it is.)
Stale? Maybe... but it is earned. This was built.
Are there issues that need to be addressed? SURE.
The thing to remember, above all else...

our only serious candidate as of now (Tef I love your enthusiasm but please, don't give me hope because you're actually making some reasonable and good points and making some sense, shitposting aside), I think a vote of confidence should still be held in the event that she is our only viable option to vote on.
Her statement in regards to her stepping down as MFO previously give cause for concern on whether they are still able to dedicate the time needed to maintaining the faction and ensuring that it's lead/operated the way it needs that address the concerns of the members.
With some of the points made throughout the nominations, it is clear that a very heavy overhaul is needed to restructure and reorganize the Galactic Alliance as a whole to make it more appealing and fun to write in again because it's clear with the recent fallout between the faction and some longstanding writers/members that things are in dire need of change.
