He chuckled.

She knew full well why she couldn't deliver packages with him. Kurt tended not to keep secrets from Kaile, mostly because...well there wasn't really a point in doing so. He was hardly a private person, and the few things he didn't talk to her about were things he had never shared with anyone, those deep dark secrets that lay within him. The ones even he didn't like to think about. His head shook slightly as those thoughts crept up on him, his vision focusing on Kaile as she wandered forward.

"I'm sure you will." Kurt said. "But we'll be in enemy territory."

He didn't know if Kaile actually got the significance of that, understood how dangerous it would be. "So no running off."

Of course, the Pilot didn't know of Kaile's actual job, nor did he know that she was likely better equipped to handle danger than he was. That was an odd little stripe in their relationship, one that had yet to come out. To Kurt, Kaile was simply the former Yum Bunnies waitress that lived with him, the one who went on trips to visit family and other smaller things. She wasn't an Alliance spy, she was just Kaile.

Kalie slowed her step at that bit. His tone was a bit more serious there. It wasn't to say the goofball was gone, but there was sense of caution in that. One he wanted to press the significance of it to her in his own way. It was his way to show he cared.

Spinning on her foot, she turned to face him. "I'll take every precaution."

Her hand rose, and her forefinger would come up to her chest. There she make a small cross. "Promise.' most would consider it a childish method to humor, but Kaile did mean it. She knew exactly what that meant. What could happen. She knew that Kurt spoke from past experience. He didn't keep that from her at all.

Which made her all the more anxious on the inside at trying to find the perfect moment to tell him. He said it would take a week to find out...

"But if I can help you in any way, I'd like to." she said earnestly, the pilot catching up to her. Stepping forward, they both made their way towards the waterfalls. Their roar would grow louder with every step, moving towards rolling hills and open parkways. Here, there were weeping willows and small rivers that would continue their waterfall down to the other lower levels.

The falls were close now, any idiot would be able to recognize that with the roar that was beginning to resound throughout the air.

Cloud Nine was designed in an interesting manner. There were a series of lakes, unnatural bodies of water that had been carved into the city itself. These lakes slowly flowed and moved about, forming canals throughout the city streets and reaching across Cloud Nine until eventually they fell off the ledge of their level and poured into a basin below. These were the larger lakes, the larger lakes then flowed and poured down into smaller lakes on the lowest levels and those lakes poured out into the 'air' below. In reality, the water evaporated and was quickly picked up by the cities recyclers, being an ever lasting flow of water.

Beautiful really, and also expensive as hell.

"I'll be fine." Kurt said simply. "Nothing I haven't handled before."

Smuggling runs were usually about the "Good" that one did by working against the Sith, but for Kurt, it certainly wasn't about that. He didn't care who won or lost, he didn't mind if the bad beat the good or vice versa. Kurt simply wanted to test out the new features on his ship. Selfish? Without a doubt, but that was who he was. "Come on, lets eat."

Something about that struck Kaile. Her eyebrows wrinkled forward, but she didn’t say anything. At least not yet. Sometimes she wondered about Kurt and what went on in his head. There was a benefit to being able to read his body language, so what went unsaid generally could be gleaned to a degree. But it wasn’t telepathy. It wasn’t a way for her to pop right into his mind and see what was going on.

It was during those times that she would remind herself that Kurt is just simply reacting and having fun. There was no rhyme or reason to it. Just how he was.

Although the few times certainly made her contemplate a bit more on it.

Nodding, she ambled alongside him. There were a few good spots already within their sights. There was a large willow that seem to weep into the largest lake, that one had a larger crowd of folk sitting near it. Hmm, too busy. She thought to herself. Panning her gaze, she settled on a small nook area that was near the edge of one of the smaller falls, and had two willow trees for shade.

“Let’s go there!” she pointed, getting the pilot's attention. It was as good as any, but at least there were less people around. Taking him with her, the former Yum Bunny waitress lead them to the small knoll where they could finally sit down to eat.

Plopping down, Kaile set down the grocery bag and settled herself. The grass might be a bit itchy, but they could deal with it. She swung the strap of her satchel, slipping it off her back and setting it beside her hip. It still left the Force Null bubble closeby that way, and didn’t hamper her comfort.

“Okay!” the cheerful grin would make her face glow. She dutifully began to search through the bag to get Kurt’s sandwich and pass it over.

Kurt practically hopped onto the ground, sliding into place slightly on the overlook of the Lake. It was pretty, really, and not too crowded. He found that odd for a moment, but as his gaze panned around he managed to catch a glimpse of a massive patio restaurant on the opposite side of the lake. There were hundreds of people there, sitting at tables, bars, benches, and wherever else they could. The Pilot let out a whistle, smiling slightly at the ingenuity that he and Kaile had displayed.

He liked the simpler things.

It was easier.

As the sandwich was thrust into his direction Kurt picked it up from Kaile's hand, cradling it for a moment as though it were something precious to be held. He smiled, and began to slowly unwrap the foil from around it. The small hit him almost instantly, making him salivate. He liked food, liked it a lot. He was sure that others in the galaxy felt the same, but for him food was part of his exploratory mission in the galaxy. He made it a point to try new things on every world.

Cloud Nine was an analogue to a hundred different worlds at the same time, so a sandwich seemed fitting.

[member="Kurt Meyer"]

Kaile took the time to fold back the foil of her sandwich, but more for the enjoyment of watching Kurt dig into his own. He had a hearty appetite. He had a hearty appetite for everything. He just went all out, jumping two feet first and not caring save for the pure enjoyment of the ride.

It amused her.
She smiled. “Like it?” she’d ask, hopeful that it met to his liking.
The wind picked up, tossing tendrils of her loose hair up in the air. She quickly tucked it back behind her ears, squinting up at the sun. The clouds often take a dusky rose hue, kissed by mellow yellows and muted whites. It was nice. This was nice.

Cloud Nine was just too big to really take in one day. It was more than just a luxury residential area, there were a couple of small museums, along with all those boutique ships they’d wandered through earlier. Fingers would curl lightly along the bottom half of her sandwich, the pilot next to her chowing down with gusto.

It was funny how calm this seemed. How natural. As if neither had a care in the ‘Verse. As if there was nothing going on beyond atmo and into that black. No battles. No wars. No sneaky espion ways. Kalieann learned to value these small moments. Maybe that’s why she was so cheerful, maybe it was because she lived for the brighter days, searched for that silver lining.

It just felt right.

For once, Kaile was quiet. Contemplative. Still. A rarity for the Lorrdian who would practically hum with energy.

"Ya." Kurt answered with his mouth still full.

It really was quite good.

The roast was perfect and the sauce on the sandwich brought it together quite well. He liked this, though it made him think about the calmer things in life, how his life had recently picked up in speed, and how he wasn't sure what he wanted to do anymore. The conversations that he had held with Jamie, what they had spoken about, the fact that they had brushed the darker tip of Kurt's life. His mind wandered as he ate, his eyes settling on the crystal clear lake in front of him.

The pilot watched simply, looking as people on the small beach section waded in and out of the water.

Contemplating life was never a good thing, at least not for Kurt. It made him think about the past, the things that he had seen during the Navy and the friends he had lost. His mother had told him that he was always looking forward, never back, that Kurt simply didn't have time to see what was behind him. At the time she had been referring to how he raced, the fact that once someone was behind him he considered them out, but perhaps she was right in a broader perspective too. Kurt frowned slightly, his eyes settling on a woman within the water.

He frowned, chewing more slowly.

Kaile brought her sandwich up and began to eat. It was certainly delicious, crisp bread and yummy sliced Nerfsteak roast. She chewed thoughtfully, wiping a bit of mayo off of her lip. Knowing she would get thirsty soon, her head panned over towards Kurt, about to ask him to pull out the ale.

That’s when she caught him with a curious expression on his face. It was a far more contemplative one than she’d ever seen him wear before. Concern furrowed, and she asked, “Credit for your thoughts?”

He pondered for a moment then shook his head. "Thinking about home."

It was the truth in a way. He had been thinking about home. Kurt missed Tatooine, missed his parents. His mother and him still talked about once a week, his father and him less often, but it still worked out. Both of them were living well now, most of Kurt's winnings having gone to them. They owned a moisture farm in the southern hemisphere, a farm that had been severely upgraded when Kurt had won the first Boonta Eve Classic and had seen even more upgrades after his second win.

The place practically ran itself.

"Maybe we should visit before the smuggling run." Kurt offered. "It would be good to see them again."

Plus if anything dangerous happened, he'd at least have that memory.

[member="Kurt Meyer"]

Home.

That was such a strange concept for Kaile. Where Kurt had a mother and a father, a place to go back to, Kaile had none. It was just her lonesome. Had been since she could remember. Lorrd had been under Sith Empire rule for a long while, but that time had been fuzzy for her. Some say she might have intentionally blocked it, others suggested she was just too young.

Whatever it was, her life had simply been with the Rebellion. It was all she’d known. Tinkering with the others with dataconsoles. Finding out she had a knack with mechanics and slicing. Plus her natural ability to mimic just paved for her a natural path to go to. While she lacked in blood relatives, she at least made a lot of friends.

She didn’t say goodbye. Just ‘See you later.’ It left that hopeful feeling of seeing them again. Had to.

With Kurt mentioning about visiting his home on Tatooine before the smuggling run, it made her eyes widen. Was he inviting her to come along? She bit her lower lip. Well that would be a first. It made her expresion bloom with pleasure. That would be nice to see, to meet them. To be around family.

It was such a nice thought.

“I’d like that. It would be fun.” talk about a whole new type of home cooked meal! Kurt lauded praises about his mother’s cooking. And maybe.. yeah.

Maybe then, she’d be able to finally tell him about the rest.

A grin split her face in two. “Not gonna want to run another race while you are there, will ya?”

It appeared that there was more to his mind, but she wasn’t gonna pry. Kurt and she for the most part didn’t have any secrets save the one about the Alliance… and if there was anything that needed to be said, it was.

Kurt let out a scoff. "Nah."

"No more racing." It wasn't worth it. "Though maybe we can go to the Boonta Eve."

That would be a lot of fun, and at least there he wouldn't be blackmailed by any syndicates. The people who ran the race loved Kurt, and if he was willing to sign a few autographs, toss a few waves and do a news story or two? Well they would treat him like royalty. Kaile would enjoy that, and it was the least that he could do for her with all that had happened recently. He mused for a second, closing his eyes and trying to remember just when the Boonta Eve actually was, end of the month he thought, but he would have to check his calendar back on the ship.

Briefly he wondered if there was another race the size of the Boonta Eve in the galaxy, something that eye catching.

Kaile nomed down on her sandwich as he spoke, all the while imagining how it would be. The Bazaar had been fun, but what happened after had been a bit crazy. She had to have Kurt help her apply bacta in all the areas where she'd peeled off the first layer of skin sliding down those canopies. She had a few bruised ribs, and a broken finger, but other wise nothing that couldn't heal with time.

He never asked her what happened. Likely because he was too busy looking after her and making sure she was okay, plus the whole leaving Bahrain as soon as possible. At the very least she managed to get a shiny out of it. It was something she treasured, the intricate gold laced cube. Very pretty, very old. She barely managed to pluck it out from being tossed into the garbage by Kurt. Seeing how she was partial to it, he gave it to her.

However, there was no denying he was great at what he did. When he won the race, Kaile knew all the more just what a skilled pilot he was. He could do more with it, but he seemed to be fine where he was at.

"Never?" she followed up, swallowing her food and licking her lips. "You never want to pod race again?'

He shrugged.

"Maybe not officially." There had been thought to this before. He shrugged. "It doesn't feel the same anymore."

That wasn't exactly true. The race felt the same, it felt good, but winning...it was dull. Even in the last race, when he had won after Kaile had screamed at him to...it just hadn't felt the same anymore. It was something that he couldn't quite explain, but the feeling...the way that victory that he had gotten, it was empty. He frowned slightly, thinking back on it. Perhaps it was because it hadn't been as hard, or maybe because he hadn't been using his own pod, he couldn't explain it, but he knew that it was true.

"It's alright though, I'm happy just flying the Messa." He offered her a smile filled with genuine warmth.

Kurt really did like flying that ship. He loved the way the controls felt, loved it's responses to him, how it floated through the skies and cut through the stars. There was something about it that he just enjoyed. The pilot smiled softly, looking at Kaile.

[member="Kurt Meyer"]

But that isn't all of it is it? Kaile thought to herself, munching down on her sandwich. She chewed slowly, giving him a half smile. A gesture went over towards the ale, giving the indication that he should pop that baby open.

Swallowing, she added," Well with how fast she is now, no wonder," a sassy grin came at that. They had both worked hard to tweak and retrofit the Messa to what it was right now, and it was still an ongoing project. They had worked on the engines, working from part to part, gathering where they could either by salvage or by creating their own custom fixes. Now the Messa was faster and the shields beefy.

Kaile had other ideas she wanted to work on with the Messa, and now that she lived there with Kurt, made her want to put as much love into it herself. When Kurt had given her the access codes to the Messa, she had just been sooo happy. It took her a few seconds to register, then a half day of celebration that left them both worn out. At the end, she had fallen asleep happy as a Mon Cal clam.

She was glad that Kurt didn't mind her putting in her own personal touches. Although nothing had been more important than getting his room just right. It took her a while to track down the autograph poster of him as a Champion, but every credit had been worth it to see the expression on his face.

"Got a need for speed," she'd joke, sticking her tongue out at him for a moment. A chuckle came next, then another question. "You think you'd ever want to fly starfighters again?"

That is what he did after podracing, and now he was just happy doing couriering. Yet Kaile was still curious.

Kurt Meyer

[member="Kaileann Vera"]

Odd question.

Kaile knew of his past, knew that he had once been a pilot for the Republic. He'd given it up for a variety of reason, or rather, he'd been kicked out and hadn't fought back with a single word. Mostly it had been everything he'd seen there, what had happened with the Sith and those within his squadron. Kurt remembered that time well, remembered what it had been like. He frowned slightly, wondering why Kaile had asked him that question when she knew his aversion to that time in his life.

"Maybe." He said truthfully. "They have a certain sleekness about them that I like."

Fighters were capable of doing things even The Messa couldn't do.

They were more agile, faster, more capable, and of course, smaller. That alone gave them an advantage.

Inevitably, though, fighters were weapons of war. No matter how one looked at the craft, that was inevitably what they were used for. Of course there were ships of that size which were stated to be for other purposes, such as the Vanir Technologies Momentum, but...well they were either racing craft or used for one day journeys, not much else. "I doubt it thought."

He answered finally.

[member="Kurt Meyer"]

"I always wondered what it would be like."

That bit was said in a low and earnest murmur. The Lorrdian would shift her bag, sliding it out behind her. It turned into a makeshift pillow. Then, since Kurt was clearly deep in thought, the strawberry blonde would lean over to take the bag with the booze from him. She set her sandwich down on her lap. then curiously began digging into the bag.

"I know the Messa goes fast now. But I imagine that would be different." he had given her an odd look when she had first asked him that question. He really didn't like to talk much about that part of his life, but she figured moving from the new high speed of the Messa towards starfighters made sense. She pulled out the novelty strawberry and banana ale. Clutching it with one small hand, she couldn't help but chuckle.

Thankfully, it was a twisty top. With a twist and a popping sound, she opened the bottle. A small bit of haze flew from it, just the gas escaping. Curiously, and perhaps a bit cautiously, she brought it up to take a sniff.

"Huh." not too wheaty. Definitely fruity.

Kurt Meyer

[member="Kaileann Vera"]

"It is different." Kurt said as he took a small sip, his face scrunching slightly at the odd tastes. "Fighters are more maneuverable. Even with the vectoring thrusters on The Messa it isn't as quick to turn as a Fighter would be. Tighter corners, smaller spaces, and not to mention the initial acceleration is a lot better too. Plus, with a fighter the feeling is different, you feel more...like you're actually there, not so built apart."

He frowned slightly, that must have sounded crazy. "It's more innate, like in a pod-racer."

Yes.

That was definitely a better way to put it.

Flying a pod-racer was an entirely different experience than flying the Messa, but flying a starfighter? Very much similar. They were tiny, small and fast enough that they resembled one another. Of course the difference was that starfighters flew on a three dimensional plane and a pod-racer stayed on the ground. Other than that, Kurt had always found them rather similar, pleasantly so. He supposed that's why he made such a good pilot.

[member="Kurt Meyer"]

"Well, I've never been in one of those either." she'd add, giving him a cheeky smile. " You make it seem so easy." she'd add, leaning over to take the bottle of ale from his hand. Bringing it to her lips, she took a large sip. It was sweet, much like a lambic. The tiny bubbles would tickle her nose and she wrinkled it in turn.

"I never did much for piloting... just fixin'" Kaile would admit, giving a little bit more information. "The flying was left for others, but it seemed so nice that they could go out and soar." she gave him a rueful grin. "My flying tends to gravitate to more of a passenger."

And fixing. And tinkering, much like she'd helped Kurt do these past few months.

Kurt shrugged. "We all have our skills."

Flying had always come so naturally to him that he had never even really considered it a talent.

That might have sounded idiotic, even stupid to some, but to him it was just how he operated. Flying, using pod-racers, even swoop racing had always been rather easy for him, something that came innately to him rather than something that had to be learned. For him, flying was like walking or talking. It came as second nature to him, rather then something that he had to practice to get better at. A frown settled on his lips as he took another sip of his drink, his head shaking slightly as the flavor of the drink stuck to his tongue.

"Besides, why do you need to fly a ship?" He said with a smirk. "You have me."

What more could one want?

[member="Kurt Meyer"]

A finger would reach over and boop him on his nose. Mirth danced in her blue eyes.

"What if I want to experience something a little bit faster, hmm?" she'd joke, the pink tip of her own tongue sticking out to tease him. His face was still scrunched up a bit by the strawberry banana flavor of the ale. Definitely more lambic than ale. Not quite what Kurt would enjoy, but it was okay for Kaile. It quenched the thirst.

"Hmm.. but you are right. I do have you." Her hand would reach up to mess with his hair. She gave it a slight ruffle, giggling, before pressing the attack and moving to skim her fingers along his ribs in a slight ticklish motion, only to grab a fistful of his shirt to tug him near. Every intention of having him use her as a comfy play to rest against. "C'mere." she was being playful, enjoying the companionship.

Kurt was fun. She liked him.

Settling against her bag like a pillow, she half reclined, enjoying the scenery. "This is nice. It's all so pretty."

And there was still so much more to do. Not to mention, his surprise!
