OUTER SPACE
XS-800 Light Freighter

For the first time off his own planet, this was not what Jaered had in mind. Crimson lights pulsed as blaring sirens alerted those aboard that the vessel had been breached. Air rushed through the corridors of the freighter, seeking the vacuum of space that was now claiming the interior of the ship. Jared struggled to claw his way along the metal paneling of the wall as he avoided debris flying past him. Thankfully, DD3 was secured firmly on his back but it was becoming harder and harder to breathe, as though something was closing around his throat. The yelling and blaster fire were becoming more distant as the wailing air drowned them out. His fingers were white with the force exerted to keep him from joining the other lifeless bodies drifting out among the stars. Brow furrowed, hair whipping around his face, he held on for dear life.

***

Mere hours before, Jaered was firmly on the ground of his homeworld, Naboo. The early morning sun illuminated the white buildings as the capital city was beginning to stir. He had thought about this many times since the loss of his parents but was waiting for when he felt ready. He realised that day would never come. For rotation after rotation, he would put off leaving, afraid of what he would o out in the vast galaxy. He was also afraid that he would never see more than the rolling fields and lakes that surrounded Theed. Already, he had started to resort to thievery to sustain himself but he needed to start his life. For too long he had mourned what was lost. Everything around was yet another constant reminder. There was nothing there for him anymore.

He looked upon the home he grew up in, now feeling hollow. A bag hung over one of his shoulders with the belongings he could carry. The building wasn't going anywhere but he was uncertain if he would see the place again. Everything felt so uncertain. his pit droid beside him looked up at him with his one black eye. "I know, buddy," he reassured as he knelt in front of him. "But it's going to be an adventure." In a way, he was also trying to convince himself. With a gentle push of his finger, DD3 collapsed into his compact form before Jaered stood and hooked the droid into the casing on his back. With a sigh and a final glance, Jaered embarked out into the streets. Step one was the easiest; getting a ride was a different story.

Entering the hanger, an XS-800 light freighter was loading cargo. Jaered didn't know where they were headed but chances are, they were traveling the trade routes. Ducking behind crates, he nimbly crept closer to the vessel, finally entering when the coast was clear. He nestled himself between boxes and got himself comfortable, not knowing how long he would be there. Soon, the shaking of the ship and the sound of engines alerted that they were airborne and soon, out of the atmosphere. After a time, Jaered dozed off into a dreamless slumber.

Shouting suddenly awoke him as the glow of blaster bolts reflected off the metal of the ship. Jaered peered to see the cause of the ruckus and saw as people were starting to convulse before hitting the ground. They had been boarded. These unwelcome guests were not as passive as he was. Clearly whatever was being transported was of some value. He quickly gathered his stuff and kept his head down. Without warning, a large bang was followed by the hiss of air escaping and alarms.

Reaching the escape pods, the first hatch was already sealed as the small capsule was already on its course. Throwing himself against the force of the pressure, JAered managed to enter the second pod, his foot kicking the panel as the door slammed, causing him to drop to the floor as silence fell. He lay on his back for a moment and relished the air now available to him. He could feel his heart jackhammering against his ribs. Not allowing himself too long to rest, he quickly got to the controls and launched the pod. Jaered wasn't certain where in the galaxy he was and he had never flown anything before. He began to panic that he would be stuck floating in space in this metal coffin. Green bolts of light raced passed him, one finally hitting a rear booster as the pod started fumbling out of control. He was thrown against the side as the shuttle hurtled toward the nearest planet, a blazing ball of fire in the atmosphere in a world unknown to him...

"Hmm, it must be down there."

After receiving the signal from an automated emergency beacon, Valery had broken away from her path home to intercept the source. If someone was in need of help, she'd always come to their rescue as a Jedi, even after an already long mission. This time, she had been on Naboo, following a message from Gatz Derrevar Gatz Derrevar about Force-sensitive children who had been captured. They had managed to return them, and dealt with the Sith responsible for all that trouble, but now there seemed to be even more problems on her path.

On arrival, Valery scanned space around her from the cockpit of her X-wing, but detected no ship. The atmosphere showed readings of engine trails, however, so she decided to shift into a scan of the surface instead. What she found worried her — escape pods had been launched, and she picked up the location of one of them.

Where were the others?

She let out a soft sigh, and brought her X-wing down through the atmosphere, until she was able to reach her destination at a steady altitude. Eventually, she spotted the escape pod, largely buried into the ground, and set her X-wing down somewhere nearby, before opening the canopy. Valery climbed her way out, removed her helmet and shook out her long hair, allowing it to cascade down behind her back again.

After tossing the helmet back into her ship, she began to walk towards the crash site. This would be her first time on Falleen.

Jaered couldn't help but let out a scream as he thrashed around the cylindrical pod that was now falling. It jolted more frantically as it entered the atmosphere of the verdant planet, DD3 now dislodged from his place and joining the various belongings now pelting the young man. It was impossible to avoid the debris and he could feel pain and cuts all over. This is it, he thought. He had no idea what he was doing and now he was paying the price for his own stupidity. It was a bad decision to leave his home which was always so idyllic only to die in a shoddy escape pod on a foreign planet the moment he left.

There was a sudden jolt as the forward thrusters of the pod tried in vain to slow its descent. The compacted pit droid was forced to the front of the capsule along with everything else, scraping Jaered's forehead and leaving a gash. He felt the warmth of something trickling down his face as the world around him faded to black. A trail of smoke tore through the sky behind the pod as it made contact with tall trees that densely populated the jungle terrain. The first few shattered as it hit them at an angle, branches and leaves strewn through the air. Jaered shuddered with the impact of each and every trunk until eventually, he came to a halt with a loud thud. Dirt scattered away from the crash site, leaving the front of the pod submerged in the ground.

Heavy eyes slowly lifted, his vision blurry, and a ringing in his ear. Jaered groaned as the pain suddenly hit him. The thick red liquid now ran streams down one side of his face but had already begun to solidify. He didn't want to move. Movement only brought more pain. For now, he was just going to stay where he was. If the planet was populated, surely people would have seen his less-than-graceful landing and try to help. Then again, he could be on a completely barren planet and he was no better off here than floating aimlessly in space.

Pushing himself against the side with his leg, he managed to sit himself up with a wince. Pain surged through his left side, his breathing shallow and strenuous. His head resting back against the metal. DD3 was within reach and he pushed his nose, the droid jumping to life, oblivious to the turmoil they had faced. "I don't think I'll make a very good pilot," he tried to joke through a strained voice. The pit droid touched the dried blood on his forehead with concern but was waved off. "Would you collect up our stuff, buddy?" he managed. He wanted to get out of the confined space and see where they actually were but didn't have the strength to get up just yet. The droid nodded and began gathering up the belongings and putting them back in the bag as the sound of a ship landing nearby could be heard. He just prayed that it wasn't the attackers following him.

Another distress signal. It was foolish to believe that the galaxy's issues would cease altogether with the end of the Second Great Hyperspace War, but the continued struggles of those around them truly reinforced just how alive the cosmos were to BB-610. Their work fixing the broken and reinstating peace would never be finished; there's always a fight to fight, always the little guy to help through politics or gunfire. The overabundance of responsibility when it came to being a Jedi was a tad frightening for the astromech, if he were honest. He's unsure of how well suited he would be as one. Thankfully, he has Valery with him to take those reins - and he would happily follow her to the ends of the earth and back.

Cases like these never boded well, but this particularly instance drew out quite the array of questions from the skittish droid. The X-wing had only picked up the one escape pod, and even with BB-610's signal enhancer, instances of any others only made themselves present with an ambiguous blip on the starfighter's navicomputer and the sombre trails of fading smoke, too dispersed to decipher any concrete trail. Falleen was new to him, so as they steered closer to the lush jungle floors and whirred the Lazi's engines offline, BB-610 lowered himself from the astromech slot and rolled over to his Master, performing an idle scan as his photoreceptors took in the dense greenery around them.

The BB unit glanced up at her, lifeform scanner swirling. Cutting the silence with a string of bweeps, he informed Valery that he was only detecting one survivor from the crash, but that a faint frequency implied the presence of another droid or the pod's failing circuitry. As the Jedi pressed forth, so too did the astromech, trailing behind her with the quiet hum of his motors, rolling effortlessly through the bumps and hills dotted along uneven dirt and grass. He was eternally thankful for not being an R-series.

Returning his gaze to her, BB-610 chirped a curious pep of binary, asking Valery what she thought the escape pod had launched for. Because that was the real kicker with these scenarios - the retrieval of any survivors was a victory, sure, but the underlying question of why they'd needed an escape pod in the first place was awfully concerning. Once they were to arrive at their destination, BB-610 would be able to determine the vessel it launched from, but the hows and whys would lie in the hands of the individual he'd detected.

"One person and one droid? Shouldn't be too much of a problem. We just need to arrange them a way off-world — my X-wing isn't really meant for multiple people and I'd prefer not to have someone sit in my lap." If that was even possible. Maybe they were about to find a 9ft tall Trandoshan and his droid somewhere down here, after all. But getting the survivor off-world was something she could worry about later.

First, they needed to find this lone survivor, and make sure they weren't about to bleed out or die from other injuries. If necessary, the locals would have to be summoned to help. Something she preferred to avoid if she could — the Falleen were a tricky group to her. Especially because of their pheromones.

"I'm not sure, but I have a bad feeling about it. Ships with technical issues can crash, but usually there's a wreck. If there's nothing at all, it often means that it was completely destroyed. Which... could mean trouble." She didn't want to scare Bee too much, but it was important to stay realistic. If someone shot down a ship, there was a chance they'd come back to take out any survivors.

Something Valery couldn't allow.

"They should be right up ahead, hm? I think I sense a presence."

DD3 threw the assortment of tools and quarkdrivers back into the sack as Jaered closed his eyes for a second, trying to dull the agony. His right hand rested on his left side where the pain throbbed and shot up his side. Even breathing was difficult, as though he had to make a conscious effort to remember to inhale when normally it came so naturally. It would do him no good to just sit around, especially if the nearby ship belonged to the attackers. At least if he was out of the pod, he had some chance of getting away. Here, he was just an unmoving target.

Clenching his teeth hard together, he tried to push himself up using the wall. A pained howl escaping his lips, his arms failed him as he dropped back to the ground. The pit droid cocked his head in concern as he approached and offered support to his arm to aid him up. Pushing through the pain, Jaered managed to get to his feet as a growl slipped through gritted teeth. The hull of the pod was dented and mishappen, with the hatch at the back being warped. He cursed his luck as he guessed that it would not simply slide open as it had to let him in.

Stumbling on the uneven surface, Jaered tried to panel: nothing. The exit did not even give a sign of movement. He tried again, hoping he was wrong but was still met with silence. His finger spammed the button, becoming desperate until he gave up and could feel tears beginning to well up in his eyes. No, crying doesn't help anything. He had shed his fair share of tears and he was not giving up now.

Jaered's shoulder pressed firmly against the hatch, hoping to prise it open. The metal was unyielding and he moved back a little to give it more of a shove. That only proved to worsen the pain and he doubled over. As he looked up, DD3 held out an All-Kit tool towards him that he had packed in his bag. How had he not thought of that already? Clearly, he wasn't thinking as clearly. "Thanks, DD," he said gratefully as took the tool, pulling up the goggles he wore around his neck to protect his eyes. Aiming the tool at the edge of the door, he used the fusioncutter function to cut through the metal. Sparks strobed and bounced around the pod as he slowly began to carve a line down the side of the hatch.

BB-610 followed the frequency of his lifeform scanner, photoreceptors keeping a watchful eye on their surroundings as they lessened the distance between them and the crash site. Valery's unease wasn't unfounded; the stillness in the air was foreboding, a tad too quiet for his liking given the circumstances. What if it was a trap, designed to lure in unsuspecting do-gooders? Things seemed too convenient, something wasn't adding up. As the astromech guided them along Falleen's lush flora, the scorch marks surrounding them became increasingly apparent, painting the once vibrant greenery into dusky charcoal, a path having cleared the grass as it led them directly to the now defunct escape pod just up ahead.

Rolling closer, BB-610 glared at the wreckage, incredulous. He approached further still, optic narrowed and photoreceptors peering through the escape pod's surface -- sure enough, in grainy red filters, there existed the silhouette of a man. Inching ever so slightly towards it, the astromech jumped as the sudden screeching of metal rang loud, sparks flying from within the hatch. Giving a brief glance towards Valery, BB-610 sped over to the escape pod, tool-bay disk sliding open to unveil his utility saw, revved up with a spin as it was brought onto the pod's outside, working in tandem with the fusioncutter.

Bweeping as he did, he asked if Valery could use the Force to lift the hatch clean off now that enough had been sliced to loosen it considerably. He wasn't sure just who they might be rescuing, whether they be friend or foe, armed or unarmed, and it gave the droid an inkling of suspicion as he pulled away, utility saw packed away back inside his shell, as the astromech rolled back to join Valery.

She could do all the talking.

The moment it became clear someone was stuck inside, Valery rushed over to the pod with Bee and watched. There were perhaps ways for her to break it open too, but this was the safest option by far, and Bee was both quick and trustworthy too. So, together with whoever was slicing their way outside from within, the hatch was cut open, but as was to be expected, the heavy metal part was still stuck within its newly made frame.

Not for long, though.

"Yeah, I've got it Bee. Keep uh, your zapper ready in case they try to jump me while I'm lifting it up." Once Bee was ready, Valery raised a hand and all at once, the metal of the hatch deformed. She compressed it in on itself to make it smaller, and then pulled it out like it was nothing, before tossing it aside to reveal those within the compartment.

"I'm Jedi Master Valery Noble," she began, hoping that introduction as a Jedi would reveal their nature pretty quickly. Either they'd be very relieved, or they'd immediately start shooting.

"Are you okay?"

The sound of the fusioncutter searing through the metal echoed around the pod. Jaered could barely hear anything over the noise, the sparks reflecting off his goggles as he concentrated on a clean cut. His hands carefully guided the tool around the hatch until the thing was encircled by a glowing line that faded to silver as the metal cooled. In his weakened state, he still couldn't barge the door open, the misshapen metal jammed into place.

Jaered paused as he heard noise on the other side of the wall. He stepped back, trying to make out what it was, and then a voice could be heard but the words were muffled. DD3 approached inquisitively. Both jumping at the sudden sound, the hatch crumpled in on itself, freed from the side paneling that was restraining it. Jaered stepped back and stumbled, catching himself with his hand on the wall. The All-Kit tool was outstretched as though it were some sort of weapon, cautious of who or what was on the other side.

As the clump of scrap flew through the air, he had to squint at the sudden light that shone in. Once adjusted, Jaered saw a black BB-series astromech accompanied by a woman who introduced herself. Another Jedi? He had never even seen one before he had a run-in with a couple recently and now it seemed they were everywhere. He was still a little apprehensive but he lowered the tool and took the goggles from his eyes to rest them around his neck. "Yeah, I-" he began, trying to steady himself as his side flared. Swallowing the pain, he looked back at the woman, not finishing his train of thought. "Where are we?"

BB-610 kept all photoreceptors keenly trained on the escape pod, prepared for anything that might possibly jump out and attack as Valery helped remove the hatch. Electro-shock prod primed and readied with the crackle of electricity, he watched as their survivor in question stumbled free; a man with no ill-intent it seemed, and the droid cautiously lowered his weapon. BB-610 glanced to Valery, and then silently wheeled forth to better study the escape pod they'd salvaged, interested in seeing just how much damage it had suffered.

Advanced photoreceptors performing a brief scan on its shell, BB-610 summarized its status as firmly non-operational but still fairly salvageable, so he swiftly got to work. Once again, Valery could do the talking-- this man, whoever he was, was much more likely to listen to a Jedi Master than a BB-unit of all things, so he busied himself with the work he was familiar with. Shock prod switched out in favor of his welding torch, it was brought to the pod's surface to begin stitching the tears together with aid from his utility arm and mending fluid, utility saw soon emerging to complete a trifecta of tools as they worked in tandem to repair the vessel's damages.

It didn't need to be perfect - BB-610 wasn't striving for that, he simply needed to patch it up the minimum amount required to kickstart its system. And that he did, as within a helping dozen of minutes - and perhaps a conversation's worth of time - the astromech had nurtured the pod decently enough to dig around within its backlogs. Tools all withdrawn, it's the droid's data probe that's finally unveiled, inserted within a data port to access its final moments.

Turning to the pair of them, BB-610's holoprojector clicked online, displaying the hologram of the vessel the escape pod belonged to as well as its accompanying blueprint: an XS-800 Light Freighter. Peering up at the man, the astromech finally bweeped, asking him why he was onboard the freighter and why the escape pod was used.

The moment the hatch came off, Valery was confronted by the young man, but he luckily seemed to be friendly. Together with his droid, he had been stuck inside, trying to make his way out. Now that he was free, Valery stepped aside to make sure he knew he was free to go. But it was in that moment she noticed he was injured as well. She saw it in the way his body winced at the pain, and she could feel a gentle tremor of discomfort in the Force as well.

"We're on Falleen," Valery then said while Bee had gone inside to try and find more data. "I picked up on a distress call and we found your pod here, but nothing from the ship it used to be on." Bee seemed to have the same train of thought, and joined her again to ask about the freighter and why he used the escape pod.

Valery had a feeling she wouldn't like the answer.

"We should get your injuries looked at before we do anything though. Most importantly, did you hit your head during the crash?" If he had suffered any internal damage, she'd have to try and help immediately, rather than risk moving away and having him collapse later.

Jaered watched the small droid roll into the pod and get to work straight away, patching up the damage. "Falleen? I've never been to Falleen," he said, mostly to himself as his eyes were still on the droid. Of course he hadn't been to the planet before, he had never even left Naboo. Perhaps the crash had shaken him up more than he realised. He turned back to the Jedi, still supporting himself against the side of the capsule. "There was another pod but I... don't think it would have landed here." He slowly made his way to the hatch, emerging out into the forest and breathing in the air. Jaered closed his eyes for a second, thankful to be out of the tiny ship he thought would be his final resting place.

"I didn't know anyone on the ship," he began in reply to the droid who had now appeared behind him. "I just got on for a lift. They were transporting something but..." DD3 handed his bag up to him, taking it and putting the strap over one shoulder. "There was an explosion and blasters and I... I got in an escape pod." Jaered had a moment of panic, thinking about the possibility that he doomed others on the ship by taking the pod for himself. He had left them to die. In the heat of the moment, he didn't think, he just needed to get out. Surely no one else had survived. He didn't remember seeing anyone else and the other escape pod had already left.

The blood had now dried on the side of his face. The blow had knocked him unconscious and he didn't know what happened between then and waking up in the wreckage. "Just a scratch, I think it's fine." DD3 walked around the woman inquisitively, looking at the laser swords at her waist. "I don't think my side is very good, though," he answered, his hand gesturing to his left ribs. He looked around nervously, not knowing much about Falleen. "We're safe here, right?"

BB-610 stared at the man, head tilted ever so sceptically as his central optic narrowed. He didn't completely trust this human yet, but any concerns the astromech may have had were kept neatly hidden. At most, he'd inform Valery of them when the two had a moment to themselves, but he seemed content on holding his cards close to his chest. The droid was still recovering from the trauma left by mankind, and while those scars had healed considerably since his adoption by the Nobles, those irrational red flags nevertheless flared up from time to time.

Glancing back, BB-610 observed the stranger's pit droid circling Valery, eyeing her with curiosity. Led by a sudden spike in protectiveness, the BB-unit rolled over to his fellow droid, lingering uncomfortably close behind him. BB-610 nudged his shell against the DUM-unit, pushing him back ever so slightly as to distance DD3 from the Jedi. Bweeping rather sternly, BB-610 told the droid to back away. He'd spotted the repair droid staring at Valery's lightsaber, and with his suspicions still intact, he wasn't risking the sudden theft of her weapon.

A tad uncharacteristic for the once skittish BB-unit to act so possessive, but loyalty had always been a critical part of his programming. Despite his accusing glare, BB-610 was willing to move past it, scoffing quietly as his lifeform scanner emerged and began a brief scan. Chirping some more binary, the astromech informed them that he'd detected nearby signatures, though he quickly added that they didn't appear to be moving. With some more bweeps, BB-610 concluded that the lifeforms were most likely the local Falleen, having been drawn to all the ruckus.

"Another pod?" Valery frowned, as that could mean more survivors were out there somewhere. She just had no idea where — her sensors hadn't picked up on anything and if they were injured, it'd be difficult to sense their weakened presences in the Force. For now, though, she focused back on the young man and intently listened to what he had to say. While he didn't know much about the ship he was on, he did describe an explosion before things went south, and even blaster fire.

There had been a fight, which alarmed her far more than an accident would have. It was possible that the attackers were still close, and depending on who they were, they might want to go after survivors.

"Let's go take a look at your side, then. Can you lift the shirt? I have medical supplies to clean any wounds and we can bandage you up with a bacta-patch too." She was going to give him one for his face too, just to be safe. But as Valery proposed her plan for his medical attention, she noticed his droid being quite curious about her and her weapon. Bee didn't like this, and very closely watched the other droid.

He even bumped him aside to maintain distance, and Valery just chuckled.

"I'm sure it's okay, Bee. Maybe he just hasn't seen a lightsaber before. As for how safe it is... well, we're awfully close to the Mandalorians, but I'm more worried about the people who attacked the ship."

Though he had never met Valery before, Jaered had the feeling that she was someone he could trust. He had always been a good judge of character, learning to read people by their movements and mannerisms but there was something else too. The Jedi projected a sort of serene sensation. It was hard for Jaered to put into words but underlying malice or intense emotions emanated an unsettling feeling.

He nodded and complied, following her to wherever was best to assess any injuries. Jaered lifted up his top, revealing large areas of red blotches that mottled the skin on his ribs. The act of lifting his arms caused pain to jolt through his body again as he grimaced. If anything was broken, that would mean time in a bacta tank and the idea didn't sound very appealing.

The bump from BB-610 caused DD3 to stumble back, fumbling to stay on his feet for a second. The droid was incapable of making noise but he glared at the astromech with its one large eye. He turned dramatically and trudged off back to Jaered's side. It had always been his intention to find a vocabulator to allow DD3 to have a voice but the man was yet to come across one. "Sorry, he means no harm. He's just inquisitive," he apologised on the droid's behalf.

Jaered had no idea who had attacked them. He wasn't even supposed to be there but her worry then worried him. What if they were trying to track him down? Maybe they were watching right now, waiting. The droid beeped to alert of nearby lifeforms. The lack of movement wasn't exactly comforting. Perhaps they had a blaster aimed right at him, waiting for the right moment. Relax, he told himself. You're with a Jedi. They were the protectors of peace and were known for their skill.

The pieces slotted together in his mind as he thought on it. The subtle hint of the distinct smell. The direction of their travel. "Spice..." he said quietly to himself. Spice mines were present on the moons of Naboo and Mon Gazza wasn't that distant from Falleen. The planet was known for its spice mining and was along the Llanic Spice Run trade route. Realising he had spoken his thoughts aloud, he looked up at Valery. "I think it was spice they were transporting."

As the pit droid waddled off to the man's side, BB-610 returned its glare, the astromech's central optic narrowing as though to stare right through its circuits, giving off a look that seemed to say 'try it', scoffing as both Valery and the droid's friend waved away its curiosity. Still, should the DUM-unit stay put, BB-610 was happy to lend his focus back to the matter of hand, eyeing the man's injuries as he lifted his shirt. He'd certainly sustained damages, but it shouldn't be life threatening.

Tool-bay disk sliding open, BB-610 returned to Valery's side, another slot popping open to let his utility arm emerge, plucking at one of the bacta patches stored inside in order to pass it over to the Jedi; digits tended to fare much better than mechanical pincers for the healing process, so he'd step aside and let Valery patch him up. Spice wasn't entirely a reassuring backdrop for him -- BB-610 was aware that it had its use in medicinal properties, but far too common was it used for illegal drugs. An ensuing tussle onboard only furthered that idea...

Turning to the pit droid, BB-610 rolled up to him, bweeping calmly as he asked DD3 if he'd recorded any footage of the attack on the freighter. Perhaps it could lead to a clue regarding their offenders? These may very well be people the Alliance were familiar with, or - failing that - people they could file into their logs for further investigation and possible arrest. He wondered if the Jedi Temple back on Coruscant were a good drop-off place for the man and his droid. Musing, he redirected his focus onto the man, asking him where his home was.

It was kind of cute how protective Bee was, and Valery let him know with a quick pat on the head. The other droid wasn't going to be a problem, they both likely knew, but that'd never stop her little buddy from staying focused. "Don't worry about it. Bee and I have been through a lot, so we're just a little extra careful sometimes." She glanced down at Bee and offered him a warm smile. But the smile faded very quickly when she saw his injuries.

He was going to need some proper treatment later.

"Alright, just sit down for me," Valery told him before she turned to Bee, who had already grabbed the bacta patches she would have asked for. "Thanks, Bee." She took them and crouched down by Jaered's side to carefully apply them. They wouldn't heal his injuries completely, but it'd be quite a bit of pain relief and patch the worst of it up.

Once he was patched up, she'd help him get up to his feet and listened to his theory. Spice? She knew quite a lot about the dangers there, and it showed as she frowned. "If that's the case, we should find a way out of here soon. I have a feeling that they might come back to make sure no packages were dropped down here." Her eyes shifted to the escape pod. To most, it'd make sense that it was just used to escape an exploding ship.

But to a spice smuggler, it might look like an attempt to get the spice off the ship before it went down.

Jaered sat down as instructed, wincing a little as Valery applied the bacta pad. It took a second for him to get used to the coldness before he acclimatised. Feeling the cool liquid in the pad against the reddened flesh on his ribs had a soothing sensation, though the pain still jolted within. He looked up at the woman gratefully. "Thank you."

He didn't like the idea that they could be following the path of the escape pod. Whoever had boarded the ship did not have any regard for life onboard. DD3 recoiled slightly as the glaring astromech rolled closer. The pit droid shook his oversized head, not possessing a holoprojector. Blurred through the panic, the details were indistinct in Jaered's mind except the memory of clawing his way to an escape pod.

Looking down at the droid, inspecting it now that it was up close, Jaered listened to his beeps. "I'm from Naboo," he replied. "This was supposed to be my way off the planet." It hadn't exactly been the adventure that he had hoped for. Part of him was telling him to just give up on seeing the galaxy and stay where he had known his whole life. He couldn't go back though. There was nothing for him there. Only the memory of what once was.

He had no idea where he was going and he felt lost in the vast galaxy but he had taken the first step and he was determined not to go back. "Please don't take me back there," he spoke to Valery. The whole situation with crashlanding on Falleen had shown him that it was dangerous being out there alone and he knew he had much to learn. That wasn't something he could do from within the polished marble walls of Theed.

As the trio sat among the trees, the hum of a distant ship entering the atmosphere was just out of earshot and approaching...
