< SHUTTLE REMAINS >

Gillan scratched his head. He knew a thing or two about shuttle repairs. But then again, he had never seen all of the alarms light up and blare at once.

If it hadn't been for the safety harnesses in the passenger's compartment, not a single one of them would still be standing. The transparisteel cockpit window had shattered, and their two pilots still sat in their chairs, although they were no longer among the living. Gillan glanced back over his shoulder. The door to the passenger's compartment had closed behind him. Perhaps that was for the better. It meant the other three passengers were spared of the sight of their deceased pilots.

Gillan sighed. The shuttle was supposed to take them to the frontier of Concordian space, to a smaller Temple complex belonging to the Silver Jedi. But something had obstructed their flight route. That something had forced them out of hyperspace, and could also be the cause of their crash. He glanced at the comms unit - it seemed just as dead as all the other systems. The sight of it made him curse under his breath. They really were on their own.

Despite the severity of the situation, he managed to remain surprisingly calm. There were no senior Jedi around, but he knew what procedures to apply. In fact, the archives had a whole section dedicated to surviving crashes. Gillan nodded to himself. Yes. He could do this.

"Our pilots are one with the Force now." He said as he returned to the passenger's compartment. "Cockpit's systems are malfunctioning too." He kept his cool, and remained cordial. But in the back of his head, he could hear the voices of his friends, loud and clear.

Three girls, huh.

Lucky you.

"Yeah? Good! With flying like that, I would have made them one with the Force as well." Ara barked as she yanked the straps free and groaned her way out of her seat. She looked herself over and gently rubbed at the back of her head. Apart from a few scrapes, bruises and a hell of a headache, she considered herself fit to move. "The kriff even brought us down? One second we're still cruising like it's a karking vacation trip and the next moment I got a headache." she asked the boy as she glanced at him, quite irked by the situation.

She knew this trip was a mistake. She didn't want to go. But no! Master Sol'yan insisted that she had to go along. 'It would be good exposure' or whatever the kriff his reason was for it. Now they were stuck somewhere in a dead ship with dead pilots. She didn't know her master so well yet, but she knew he would already have some criticisms on her handling of the situation. She didn't give a crap... or she did. She wasn't sure.

The zabrak sighed as she rubbed her head, a groan drawing out of her as she massaged her scalp. "Okay, let's see what we're dealing with. Did our luggage survive?" she asked the others. She didn't know their names, though she recognised their faces. The boy looked like someone she had beaten up, but she knew she didn't. He looked way too sheepish to even talk to her. "I got some tools in my bag. If the ship's not in too bad a state, I can check it out." she offered with a calmer tone. "The name's Ara, by the way. Who are you dudes?" she asked them as she rolled her shoulders a couple times.

Wincing, Amanda slowly came to realize that she was still inside the shuttle. She grimaced, her hands fumbling for the release on her harness, and freed herself. The voices of her fellow padawans were already shouting back and forth to one another, and already the woman was regretting having agreed to come on this mission; why in the hell did Master Shan press her on this matter so? She noticed that she had cut open her lip during the crash, with fresh blood spilling down her lip and dripping onto her robes; yet another stain she wouldn't be able to remove. Smearing the blood on the back of her hand now, she put her mind to work, plotting out the next course of action in her mind.

She had never been a people person. But she had always been a survivor, so the first thing in her mind was to survey the area.

Ignoring the pair chatting to the back of her, she moved towards the ramp, emergency lighting being the only way forward for the woman, as her hand found the release for the gangway, and pulled it. A 'hiss' erupted in the hold, and the hatch did open. Her eyes burned as the light struck her pupils, and she attempted to blink the temporary blindness out of her eyes. When that subsided, she was none too pleased with what she found, as salt streaked lands stretched out before her, the only sign of anything being different was the streaks across the ground from where their craft had crash. It was probably asking too much to crash on a hospitable planet wasn't it?

The force wasn't with them this day. Wouldn't stop the rest of the pack from chanting it like a mantra however. Scowling, Amanda set back to getting some level of control of the door; a task easier said than done, as it seemed the crash had knocked out the electronics in the control panel. She soon realized that without tools, she couldn't get to the critical parts; though the Zabrak girl had mentioned having tools, so perhaps cooperation would be required in this situation.

As if things couldn't get any worse.

Turning back to the rest of her companions, the former slave would finally speak. "Amanda." She said, looking to the rest of the group, then back to the door. "We need to remove the bodies of the pilots, secure our emergency beacon, and try to reinforce the shuttle." She looked to Ara, clearly less than pleased that was was surrounded by children. "Do you have a diagnostic tool?"

What probably frustrated her the most, was out of the rest of the padawans here, she was probably the one with the least amount of training. How embarrassing was that?

Having never experienced a crash before and only been in a starship a second time in her entire life, though she was knocked out for the first time, Taliya had screamed through the entire crashing. While her screaming had stopped when the ship had stopped moving, she only just opened her eyes, getting blinded by the sudden opening exposure to sunlight.

With a hand to cover her eyes, letting them blink a couple of times before they got used to the bright sunlight. As she unclipped her safety harness, the young girl got off her seat and gasped in shock over the death of the pilots. "We need to give them a proper burial!" expressed the young teenager as the rest seemingly were too busy to argue over the ship... two people were dead! Taliya knew that Sakadi had explained that she needed to be wary about her emotions.

However, it was hard for Taliya to grasp the Light and Dark side as it was seen by many other Jedi in the Temple. In fact, everything was difficult for her to grasp, though not for lack of trying.

Unlike Ara and Amanda, Taliya didn't really question her Master's decision as the young twin-coloured eyed girl more or less looked up to the older Sephi. When Sakadi one day suggested it was good for the girl to experience life outside of her small Temple chamber and Temple, the girl agreed with a smile and joined the other padawans.

Looking at the three other padawans in the passenger area, Taliya suddenly felt very much scared. Her Master wasn't there to look out for her, her father wasn't there either, or her mother... Not to mention, she still had trouble with even the basic control of her supposedly new abilities.

Hugging herself, she was unsure what to do. She had no skills in repairing ships, she knew basic knowledge of fixing droids and she had trouble even lifting a simple rock with the Force. Her insecurities quickly started to take hold of her.

Gillan stared at Ara for a moment, mouth slightly agape. Had she ever washed her own mouth out with soap? He almost felt obliged to do it for her.

He shook his head. Priorities Gillan. "Yeah, we should probably bury them." He said, as he strode through the passenger's compartment toward the small storage at the far end of the compartment. The panel no longer responded, but it took little effort to pry it open. Inside was a rack with some tools, among them the likes of torches, a flare gun, a hydrospanner, and a medical kit. Not much to work with, but the essentials were there. "Should we divide the tasks between us?" He had a fairly grim outlook on things. Even if they could get their shuttle to function, they probably wouldn't get far past sublight speed. "She" he pointed to the girl with heterochromia ( Taliya Kassell Taliya Kassell ) "and I can go bury the pilots, while you two assess the damage." He walked toward the lowered ramp as he spoke. "It's uhhh, probably a lot." He added, reminding himself of the alarms blaring in the cockpit.

The vast white planes that stretched all the way toward the horizon made him tense up. He brought a hand up to provide his eyes with some shielding against the harsh sun and the white surface. The Force was kidding, right? A crash was challenging enough. But crashing in the middle of a desert that ran as far as the eye could see?

Gillan knelt down near the boarding ramp, swiped with two fingers through the white soil and brought them to his lips. The Force wasn't kidding.

He nodded confidently, unsure if anyone even saw him. "Yup. That's salt."

Ara glanced back at the boy, only to notice that he was staring at her looking rather shocked for some reason. "You wanna say something, shovel face, or am I gonna have to drag it out of you?" she snapped at him. At least one person seemed more polite than she was, though her parents probably hated her if they gave her a name like that. The other girl mentioned burying the bodies and Shovel-face agreed. If he didn't want to give a name, she would give him one herself.

No wonder her mother threw her away as a kid. She would have done the same if she knew she was going to turn out like this.

Taking a deep breath, she let it out slowly as she tried to calm herself down. Her master's words stuck in her head as she looked around them. "Master your emotions. Don't let them control you." she kept thinking. Honestly, this was probably the best chance for her to put that lesson into practice. "Alright Snowfl-Amanda. Let's go check out the luggage." she quipped. A very good chance, indeed.

When the ship's ramp lowered and the outside air flooded in, Ara scrounged her nose in confusion. She had sniffed enough containers filled with sketchy little crystals in her life to know the difference between hard drugs and that smell. A suspicion confirmed when she heard the boy's words right outside the ship. "I'd suggest you stop licking the floor. If you wanna die, just say so." she called out to him as she peered around the corner of the hatch. "No need to dehydrate yourself." she muttered under her breath as she made her way over to Amanda and the luggage. She sighed in relief when she found her bag still intact. Hopefully the contents also survived.

She pulled out some extra clothing and other accessories until she found what she was looking for. She pulled her blaster pistol out and checked it before she stuffed it into the back of her trousers. She found her datapad and groaned as she studied it. The cracks on the screen got worse, now covering half of her screen. Luckily it still worked fine. Tucking that into her ruined robes, she continued to shuffle through her things until she found her toolkit. "Thank goodness. Think fast." she quipped as she tossed her diagnostic scanner up at Amanda. "Go check out the reactor and cockpit. Hopefully we can at least get comms going... maybe the navicomputer." she suggested as she stood up and turned to exit the ship. "I'll check the exterior, see what we're dealing with." she continued before she stepped outside.

Squinting at the bright sunlight and white surface, she pulled up her poodoo-brown hood for some shelter. She looked around them. There was absolutely nothing. She made a mental note to take some of the salt along if they got off the planet, it could probably make for some funky seasoning. With a sigh she pulled a cigarette from a crumpled packet in her pocket and lit it. She and her mother talked about it in the past, but quitting can wait. This trip was going to require some form of emotional stability, even if it was in the form of a very unhealthy habit.

With a deep drag and slow release, she rubbed at her eyes and proceeded to walk around the ship, making notes of the damage on her datapad as she walked and smoked. However as she made her lap around the ship, her eyes fell to the boy and girl trying to bury the bodies.

Glancing at her cigarette, she got an idea that seemed quite helpful to the current social situation. With the purest of intent she walked over to them and produced her packet to them. ”You guys need one?” she asked them with an awkward strain to her voice.

Amanda looked back to the younger woman in the company, the one who had remarked about burying the dead. She considered saying something about how much energy it would take to try digging a proper grave, but decided against it. They just needed to dispose of the bodies, how that was done Amanda didn't care. The one that was grating on her at current however, was Ara. Amanda had known people like her during her time in chains, thy tended not to last too long in the fields; either due to setting off their owners, or irking the other slaves. Hearing her snap back at the young man, the padawan was just about sick of the bratty attitude. "Hey, horn head, you going to run your mouth or get to work?" She shot back, growing rather tiresome of this little affair.

Stepping off the shuttle, Amanda would let the Zabrak acquire the gear from the cargo hold, though she watched with concern as she witnessed Gillan sample the ground. She was starting to wonder if she had made a mistake when she had let Master Shan take her off Mustafar. It seemed most of the padawans in the Concord had all been dropped on their head as children, or were so socially impaired that they couldn't handle stress.

Then again, Amanda wasn't one to talk. Absent mindedly, she nearly dropped the device that the Zabrak threw to her, only catching it after it struck her in the chest. She inspected the device, only half listening to Ara, her mind thinking if she would even be able to make it off this world in once piece. She knew how to fix things certainly, but if they had a hull breach, they'd be a in a world of trouble. "Try not to put anymore holes in the ship." She said, still a bit sore at Ara having nearly called her a 'snowflake', whatever the hell that was supposed to mean. Last thing she wanted to deal with right now was a moody Zabrak. Turning to leave the woman to her task, Amanda set off to do her inspect, plugging the device into the still flickering main computer, and watching as the data began to come across her device.

She was hoping the damage wasn't too severe. The less time she had to be here with these people the better.

Taliya just stood there, take aback by the lack for empathy for the deceased pilots who had been so nice to them all. The only one who remotely felt like an honest and nice person was the Padawan Gillan Eru Gillan Eru as he at least agreed to bury the two dead pilots in the cockpit. Snapped out of her thoughts from the other Padawan's "horn head" comment, Taliya suddenly found herself alone in the passenger area of the ship, surrounded by the howling noise of the crashed ship.

Glancing nervously towards the shut door to the cockpit, Taliya rushed to the exit. "Hey, wait up!" she called not wanting to be alone, only stopping at the opening, shielding her eyes from the blinding sun and surfaces. That last padawan, Ara Sheridan Ara Sheridan had a foul mouth, one Sakadi would put in her place immediately, Taliya suspected with a slight humorous smile.

While Taliya often feels out of place and the worse at this whole Jedi life, she did really like being trained by her Master Sakadi. Taliya couldn't really explain why, but every time other trainers at Silver Rest trained her, she always spent much longer than other students, but the moment her Master took over, everything inside of her mind just falls into place.

Descending the ramp to the apparently salt-covered surface, walked over to Gillan a bit nervous as the Padawan in front of her looked so much more in control and Jedi like. "Uhm... have you... you know, buried anyone before?" Asked shyly, hugging herself with her left arm, scratching her upper arm right arm. Despite the high sun and burning sun, her twin-coloured eyes managed to glow through the blinding light. The left eye had a deep blue ocean colour, while her right eye colour had a much more sinister orange colour. Both eyes had a slight unnatural glow to them, but more importantly, the orange colour reminded very much of that of a Sith's eye colour. As for Taliya herself, she stood in some very simple padawan clothes, though without the cloak as that was inside of the ship still.

It just hit Taliya as she looked around the surface, they were completely stranded in a desert made of salt as long as the eye could see. The sudden realization of slim survival, had the young girl scared and looked back to Gillan. "We're not going to die here, right?" Asked the scared petite girl Gillan as he seemed to be the one with manners.

Taliya's worries got put on halt for a moment when that rude loudmouth Padawan Ara came over to Gillan and Taliya to offer them something. When Taliya looked at Ara, her bright twin-coloured eyes glowed still, even in the bright sunlight. Looking at the offered smoke, Taliya shook her head, "no thanks" she declined. Mostly it was because she had no idea what it was.

"I'd suggest you stop licking the floor. If you wanna die, just say so." Gillan turned to the opened ramp and made a face. "With you around, it's certainly tempting" He retorted. Gillan had remained polite and shook his head after she had called him shovel-face. This time, however, it just slipped out. Judging by the expressions and comments of the others, he wasn't the only one who had issues with the moody Zabrak. "Sorry" He mumbled afterwards, voice deliberately kept low so that only Taliya Kassell Taliya Kassell next to him could hear it.

"Uhm... have you... you know, buried anyone before?"

"No, I haven't" He spoke in a kinder tone to her. She seemed a lot more uncomfortable than the others. Was it inexperience? Age? He couldn't tell. "But I think it would be better if we cremate them instead." He gazed in the distance, eyes scanning the horizon. "If there's anyone out there, they'll see the smoke." He walked away from the boarding ramp, turning to look at the shuttle. A thick, black smoke rose from the shuttle's dorsal fin. "I think it's best if we wait for that to go out first." He pointed, voice raised. Bringing the bodies outside and covering them in some of his spare cloaks would do for now.

"We're not going to die here, right?" The petite girl spoke up again when he walked back to the ramp. For a moment, he considered probing her with the Force. But he decided against it. Flashing her a smile as warm as he could muster, Gillan answered. "Don't worry. We'll make it through this." Whether the Force was with them or not, he would not meet his end here.

Not with some smoking Zabrak. His expression contorted to one much less friendly. Nevermind all that stuff about me wanting to die. You just don't wanna go alone, do you? He thought, as he stared at the cigarette.

"I don't 'need' one." He looked away as she held up the packet. "But... thank you for offering." He muttered, still not wanting to make eye contact. "My name is Gillan by the way. Gillan Eru." He wouldn't settle for an awkward silence. "Come on. Let's move those bodies outside." He gestured toward Taliya to follow him back inside.

Once in, he began to explain what he had in mind. "I think I can lift them both with the Force. If you could use the Force to gently push them toward the exit, this'll be right over." He glanced at her unnatural eyes as he strode toward the cockpit. The girl looked so frail. So different from the distant and mature Amanda, and the bratty but insecure Zabrak. All of them were beautiful in their own unique way. Had he met them back at the temple, he wouldn't even have approached them.

But perhaps that was just him. He preferred the secluded libraries of Silver Rest too, after all.

She expected them to refuse her offer, so she wasn't bothered at all by it. It was the manner of the boy's refusal that got to her. For the briefest of moments, a small smile crept onto her lips, though it was dashed when he refused to look into her eyes as he introduced himself. With a frown forming, she slipped her packet into her pocket and glanced between Gillan and the other girl. "Looking someone in the eye doesn't hurt, you know." she muttered as she turned to walk back to the ship, throwing her cigarette down and crushing it under her boot. Her master's teachings were playing over in her head endlessly.

"As long as you strive for emotional balance, and fight to prevent your emotions from moving you to act selfishly or without regard for the greater good of others, then you will be more than a decent Jedi. Of that, I have no doubt."

She had learned a lot on that day and was still figuring it all out, but she understood what he meant perfectly after the incident with her mother. Now that lesson was reflecting itself perfectly once more in this situation, arguably with much more serious consequences if she didn't put her understanding into practice. She had to be a better person. A better version of herself. Otherwise neither she nor the others would make it out of this alive.

Walking back into the ship, she said nothing as she entered the refresher and slid the door shut behind her. She needed a moment to herself, to think al of this over and to get her head on straight. With a sharp exhale she gripped the sink and stared at herself for a moment before she tried to open the tap. First problem. Either the power was cut to the pumps, or the reservoir drained out in the crash. Best case scenario, the reservoir was still full and they could use the water to survive. Second problem. Her firsts impression with the others was absolutely terrible. Usually it wouldn't have bothered her, but now it was stuck in her head that if she was going to die, she wanted to at least be remembered as a half decent person. She needed to work on how she operated with the others and try to be as helpful to the team as possible. Third problem. Her temper. She tried to justify it but she knew her master would be disappointed with every excuse she gave. Simple fact of the matter was that she was letting her own insecurities, issues back home, and the situation get the better of her. A comment, from a smuggler she once met, popped into her head. "Ma raised a harpy, not a chicken." While it might be horrible advice literally, the idea behind it stuck out to her. She just had to suck it up and get over herself, remind herself that these people had nothing to do with anything going on in her life, so she had no reason to act like a total schutta with them. She had to be a better person. Not just for them, but also herself.

Fourth problem. She was standing there like an idiot and doing nothing productive while the others were busy giving the situation their all. She sighed and wiped some completely normal and utterly unrelated tears from her eyes, giving a sniff and clearing her throat before she attempted to exit the refresher. Upon closer inspection, the door seemed to have slid off its rail. She tried to push it back on to no avail. With a violent grunt she kicked the door and it slid open. Finally some healthy ways to relieve stress.

Walking out of the refresher, she had found a new sense of determination as she made her way to Amanda. "Okay, what are we working with? If the reactor is still kicking, I have an idea or two. Hull's damaged as hell. Unless we got some blowtorches and spare parts in full supply, this thing ain't flying anywhere." she explained as she looked up to Amanda with a small smile forming.

Sitting down in the pilots chair, Amanda looked over the instruments as she began to power on the diagnostic device. Tentively, she took up a loose rag from a compartment and cleaned off the blood splatter from one of the pilots, allowing her to read the terminal with a minimal amount of obstruction.

Sitting alone once more, the woman swt the device down and powered up the terminal, letting herself sink into the pilot chair as the low hum of the computer powering up filled the cabin. She sighed, enjoying the solitude of her situation. Master Shan had told her time and again to try and connect, try to make friends, but in truth she didn't want that. She didn't like people. She didn't understand them. All she wanted to do was stay with her machines. The Sith let her stay with her machines after all, so why couldn't the jedi do the same?

The flashing on the terminal caught her attention, and swiftly she plugged in her device and waited. The information flooded across the screen, and she was none too happy to see the issues. Most of it wasn't anything to severe, the shield module was out of commission and the sunlight drives needed to be fixed. All in all, she'd seen worse crashes.

Fiddling with several dials, she tried to locate the primary source of the damages, and was pleasantly surprised to see they weren't too complicated. She was in the middle of getting up, mind sorting out how to fix the ship up. Then she found Ara standing before her, inquiring about the status of the ship. Immediately, her smile vanished, the padawan sinking back into the chair. "Engines are damaged, deflector shields are off line. Nothing major, but I think if we cross wire the deflector shield to keep it stable til we hit hyperspace." She muttered, handing the device to Ara so she could look it over. Hearing the hull was damaged, Amanda gave a small roll of her eyes, knowing that the fix was simple. "If we need to, we can strip metal off the wings and noncritcal systems; use it to patch the hull. Won't be easy flying, but we just need to get into hyperspace and we'll be fine."

Taliya gave Gillan a small smile of appreciation, as it calmed her nervousness that had been brewing inside of her since the crash. However, her nervousness returned as soon as it went away when he suggested she would use the force to push the two dead pilots. "I-I don't know if I can" began Taliya, looking away while stroking her right arm with her left hand. Taliya still had trouble getting the hang of this whole Force thing, even though Sakadi reassured her that with patients, she would get the hang of how to let the force guide her.

Taliya thought about asking one of the other two, but when one was constantly rude and the other one completely focused on the ship, she sighed and followed Gillan inside. Actually seeing the two dead pilots dead, bloodied, made the girl gasp in horror, feeling her heart filled with sorrow for the two men and their families if they had any.

The twin-coloured eyes girl for a brief moment was frozen, but the terrible sight of the two dead pilots, just sitting there so quiet and still. Hearing Gillan's voice again, explaining his plan for getting the bodies out, made her snap back to reality. "I~" she tried to speak, but nothing came out, so instead she just nodded and hoped the Force thingy would let her use it this time.

With closed eyes, so she didn't have to look at the dead bodies, she raised her hands and tried to reach out to the Light Side of the Force for a bit of guided help. To Taliya's happy surprise when she opened her eyes, the Force had heard her and she actually started to push the corpses out of the cockpit and into the passenger compartment. Taliya's face completely lit up as she didn't know if she could cheer, smile or surprise, but Gillan would not only see the petite girl smile from ear to ear but her signature in the force burned incredibly bright.

Taliya was so happy that her sorrow completely disappeared and something else had changed about her, her light blue colour was glowing, whereas the orange sith colour had faded in intensity. As they stood outside again, Taliya just stood and looked at her hands, like she had just done a miracle with the force. The girl looked at Gillan with a cheerful giddy, "I did it!" She expressed with a wide joyful grin. it was a complete 360-degree turn of personality from the earlier sullenly, nervous and quiet girl.

Gillan shot a glance at Taliya upon the sight of the two dead pilots. He didn't know a thing about the girl, but she appeared sensitive. That was confirmed the minute they had stepped into the cockpit.

His eyes remained on Taliya for a moment. "Don't worry." He said gently. "They are one with the Force now. There is nothing that'll harm them anymore." He turned back to the somewhat gruesome sight, and closed his eyes. His presence in the Force was like a candleflame, one that grew and transformed in a bonfire as he brought his focus to bear. "Ready?" His voice was strained. "I'm going to lift them now." He brought his hands up, palms facing upward as if he actually carried a heavy load. The Force responded to his call, the bodies slowly rising from their respective seats as if their respective weights were reduced to nothing. He heard Taliya's cheerful exclamation beside him, but did not bother to look. Instead, he began to back out of the cockpit. Slowly. "Good, now let's get them outside!"

Ara stared at the lady with visible confusion and concern for a good long moment after her suggestion on how to get the ship operational again. She almost forgot to say something, preferably something with substance and intelligence. "Huh? Oh, sorry. I thought you'll say something with substance next." She quipped after her moment of silence.

"How do you want to get this thing in hyperspace, huh? In case you didn't notice, THE WINDOW IS GONE!" She chewed her out as she gestured to the shattered cockpit window in front of them. "And how do you wanna put it all together? With rope and prayers? Unless you're gonna hydrospanner everything together somehow, we ain't getting this thing airborne." She dropped into the vacant pilot's seat and bumped her head against the dashboard a few times. "Come on... how can we get this..." She shot up with an idea, snapping her fingers together a few times as she tried to piece her thoughts together. "I got it!" She called out with a grin forming.

She studied the diagnostics and information for a moment. "I think we can do it!" She turned to face Amanda. "We don't need to have it space worthy! We can get everything working again and if we're lucky, it can still fly in atmosphere. Biggest thing is scanners and comms, we need to get that going again. We don't need extra stuff for that, a hydrospanner and whatever else we got is more than enough!" She explained as she lit another cigarette and made her way out of the cockpit to study the rest of the interior. They needed to list their resources out, get an idea of what they could accomplish.
