OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Much like the Nebulous, the Eligor devices are able to be linked together to create larger cloaking fields to cover larger starships.
  • Aurora scientists have developed a crystalline version of void stone that has been added into the Eligor device to mask the presences of a pilot or crew from Force senses.
STRENGTHS
  • Improving upon the previous design, and utilizing better energy conducting materials, the Eligor is a far more efficient cloaking device. The field activates faster and is not as much of a power drain upon a ship's power source, allowing the cloaking field to remain active even when weapon systems are fired.
  • Keeping with the same design philosophy as the previous design, Eligor cloaking devices can be linked together to form larger cloaking fields. This allows even large ships like Star Destroyers and bigger to maintain a coherent cloaking field.
  • The cloaking field, like many stygium devices, is able to mask the ship from both visual sight and from almost every type of scanner and sensor. However, the Eligor was further modified with a specially created crystalline void stone that can mask the ship's crew from being detected by Force users.
WEAKNESSES
  • Crystal Gravfield Traps and magnetic tracking torpedoes can still locate a ship utilizing the Eligor cloaking device, requiring additional systems to cover that shortfall.
  • While the weapon systems can be fired while the ship is cloaked, the firing of projectiles can give away the ship's location if an enemy ship is able to triangulate where the incoming fire is coming from.
  • If a linked Eligor is sabotaged or destroyed, the portion of the ship that its cloaking field is covering with deactivate, revealing a random section of the hull and making it an easier target for enemy forces to focus on.
  • While the cloaking field is inactive, the special crystalline void stone in the device is unable to project its Force dampening effect, revealing the pilot or crew of the ship to detection by Force users. In addition, Force sensitive pilots will be unable to use the Force while they have the cloak active as they would be in the middle of the dampening field.
DESCRIPTION

It had been several years since Aurora Industries had visited their cloaking technology, the Nebulous device. Previously, the company had decided to use Adegan crystals to cut down on costs, and while it had created a cloaking field on par with stygium, other issues soon came to light that had brought the engineers back to the drawing board. A complete overhaul was required, although the general design philosophy would remain the same.

A shift was made to once again use stygium following the expansion of Aurora facilities to Maramere, giving the company a more ready access to the rare crystals. The device that would contain the crystal needed to be more efficient than the previous device with how energy was channeled through the device. As a means of achieving this stipulation, and to make sure the power draw for the new cloak was lower than previous iterations and prototypes, the team utilized haysian smelt in the internal circuits and wiring while agrinium and trimantium was used for the casing, the replacing the old turadium case. The result was a device that didn't need as much power and could allow a ship to use its communications and weapon systems, if they so chose, without disengaging the cloak. However, there was one more objective the team wanted to try and meet.

While traditional cloaking fields could mask a ship from the visual eye and from most sensors and scanners, it could not hide a ship's crew from being sensed by a Force user. To try and figure out a way around this issue without shoving a bunch of ysalamiri into the vessel, the team approached the scientists and engineers working at Jen'asha Station in Otherspace. The team there had been experimenting and studying the unique properties of what had been dubbed void stone by the denizens of the normal galaxy, and one such experiment had caught the attention of the engineers. While the void stone, like most rock had a polycrystalline structure, the researchers at Jen'asha Station had been experimenting with rearranging the molecular structure of the stone into an ordered crystalline structure. The result had created a crystal that normally didn't emit the Force dampening field associated with void stone unless a current was passed through it. The design team for the cloaking device requested some of these new crystals and added them into the device so when it was activated, it could create a dampening field to accompany the cloaking field.

The new device, once it reached prototype and approval from Ary Jaxson, was dubbed the Eligor Cloaking Device.
