    • Seeker Nanomissile Warheads; Rear-firing Missile Interceptors - Requires Missile Target-lock to Properly Intercept Incoming Warheads.
    • Squadron Mask; Disables Starfighter's Transponder via Dedicated Jamming Module, Requires Additional Starfighters to Increase Potency during a Dogfight.

  • Comprehensive Countermeasure, Sensor and Targeting Suite.
  • Small Forward and Rear Attack Profile - Lower Probability of Scoring Hits.
  • Performance Enhancements:
    • Shielded and Aerodynamic - Marginal Increase(s) in Speed and Maneuverability in Atmospheric Conditions.
    • Advanced Power Coupling(s) - Capable of Shunting additional Power to Shields, Weapons, or Engines for Marginal Performance Increases.
  • Squadron Mask - Disables Starfighter's Transponder via Dedicated Jamming Module; Best Used in Dogfights due to Pilot Confusion.
  • SLAM System; Temporary Speed Boost at the Cost of Disabled Armament.
  • Sensor Inverter; Short-ranged Missile Redirector via Microburst EM Pulse - Works best with Conventional Warheads.
WEAKNESSES
  • Heavy Automaton and Slaved Systems; Combat Performance is Significantly Hindered if Disabled by EMP attacks or excess Ionization.
  • Limited EMP and Ion Resistance(s); Sustained Damage is Dependant on Attacking Device(s) Potency / Scale and Proximity.
  • Fixed Forward Weapon Placements; Consistent Reorientation for Target Acquisition.
  • Repulsorlift Jammers; Proximity Dependent as Jammers are Less Effective at a Distance.
  • Advanced Power Couplings - Notable Dips in Operational Performance when Power's Allocated away from Major System(s.)
    • Shunted to Engines: Weapons and Shielding are Weaker.
    • Shunted to Weapons: Speed is Reduced and Shielding is Weaker.
    • Shunted to Shields: Speed is Reduced and Weapons are Weaker.
  • Large Dorsal and Ventral Attack Profile - Higher Probability of Scoring Hits.
  • Squadron Mask - Disables Starfighter's Transponder via Dedicated Jamming Module; Ineffective at Range.
    • Conventional Sensors are Not Effected and the Starfighter / Squadron can still be Targeted.
    • Requires a "Cooldown" After Each Use.
  • SLAM System; Reroutes Power from Weapons to Engines - Temporarily Disables Armament.
  • Assault Shield - Double Front; When Utilized, Port, Starboard and Aft Shielding is Weaker than the Bow / Fore Vector.
  • Sensor Inverter; Works best with Conventional Warheads; Higher Chance of Failure in more Advanced Warheads.
  • Exposed Structural Supports (Wing Connectors) - May reduce Operational Effectiveness if Severed; Especially in Atmospheric Environments.
  • Exposed Warhead Launchers - Possible Payload Overload if Targeted; Chain Detonations, Etc.
DESCRIPTION
The original E-wing was intended, and designed to ultimately surpass the prowess, and phase-out the aging X-wing design that populated the New Republic’s Starfleet. However, when the Snub Fighter was pushed into its deployment phase, the design suffered from several significant issues and malfunctions. Many of these failures saw the return of the New Republic’s preference for the more reliable X-wing Starfighter, as they were already a tried and true design that many Pilots held a measure of familiarity with. The rapid degradation of the synthetic Tibanna gas, coupled with the demands of the original E-wing’s laser cannons saw it’s output reduced by a third - making them nothing more than angry flashlights. Adding on the requirements of a specially designed Astromech Droid - the E-wing had a plethora of teething problems, before they were inevitably remedied down the line.

As one can imagine, with those problems - listed or otherwise - the E-wing wasn’t the replacement for the X-wing that it was designed, and intended to be. Instead, the craft was regulated to a single fleet within the New Republic and never really saw widespread service amongst the Starfleet. Again, the primary Space Superiority Starfighter was drawn from the ever-expanding X-wing line.

Fast forward several centuries, the Republic Engineering Corporation finds itself unwilling to remake the mistakes of the past, whilst designing their own variant of the E-wing Starfighter. Naturally, the first steps that were taken during the development process involved peeling back the recovered schematic, and despecialized some aspects of the overall design. No longer would the newest iteration of the E-wing rely on a specialist Astromech Droid, nor a steady supply of rapidly-degrading tibanna gas. Instead, the REC-ES01 E-wing Multi-Role Starfighter would be outfitted with an integrated Astromech Droid, that assisted the Pilot in the operation of their vessel via heavy automation. In addition to the integrated droid, that made the E-wing more of a droid starfighter than an organic one, the Starfighter was also outfitted with a modular socket that could house a multitude of Astromech models.

From there, the dedicated armament of the E-wing was heavily altered to fit the needs of the modern era. These changes saw the overall mission profile of the Starfighter change from being a dedicated Space Superiority craft, into something considerably more versatile and worthy of the Multi-Role appellation. The first of these changes was the Heavy Ion Cannon that was mounted above the Cockpit, which took the place of the Laser Cannon that was originally there, and found itself hydraulically-mounted on an integrated platform that’d raise the firing assembly whenever the starfighter touched down. This allowed for the pilot to easily remove themselves from the Cockpit, rather than requiring a dedicated team of support personnel to be on hand whenever the Pilot comes in for a landing.

The second, and less noticeable change were the inclusions of retractable weaponry that would assist the pilot in the variable geometry engagements of spatial combat and warhead interception duties. The antipersonnel blaster cannon would be capable of engaging targets beneath the Pilot’s alleged engagement vector - surprising surface-based installations or formations of infantry, or shooting down any brilliant munitions that may’ve locked onto the Starfighter. To support their plasmatic-based cousin, the E-wing was also outfitted with a trio of antimissile octets, that would magnetically accelerate shrapnel into the depths of space - seeking to destroy any discharged warheads their laser cannons couldn’t reach, or force any mass-reactive munitions to pre-maturely detonate long before impacting their intended targets.

Thus, with the lessons of the past learned, and avoided as best as possible - the REC-ES01 E-wing Multi-Role Starfighter would seek to not only emulate the intent behind the original E-wing, but also act as a worthy spiritual successor to the FreiTek design.
