When the Naboo Royal Starfighter Corps had an open competition for submissions to become the next Royal Starfighter, Nubian Star Drives made multiple submissions. The Nubian government was famously pacifist in its approach to conflict, so the E-1 Nubian Electronic Warfare Starfighter was conceived of to offer a non-lethal starfighter platform. The E01 was meant to protect the Royal Family by disabling enemy ships and spoofing enemy sensors and communications, rather than by destroying hostile targets. In the event that the Ion Cannons were insufficient, the ship's operator was meant to slice into enemy ships and disable their flight computers using a remote data link and data spike.
Unfortunately, the Royal Starfighter Corps were not sold on the idea of a completely nonlethal starfighter, and did not think that slicing was a viable and reliable defense tool. They ultimately purchased the N-1 Instead, which had more conventional weaponry, including a missile launcher system. The N-1 proceeded to serve the Naboo Royal Starfighter Corps for many generations.
Fortunately, Nubian starships were high-prestige craft due to their hand-construction and limited supply, as well as the perceived superiority of the Nubian aesthetic. The E-1 was subsequently manufactured profitably in limited numbers for export, with a single squadron being produced each year. This limited production was auctioned in a yearly event to VIP clients. These units were purchased primarily by the elite corps of other governments, who desired prestige fighter elements to serve as ceremonial starfighter escorts. The E-1 found itself often used by honor guards for official functions, or as flying stunts in government-sponsored air shows.
A few of these exports have subsequently fallen into the secondary starship market, allowing 'ordinary' people to acquire one if they have enough dosh.
