In the old wing-clan tongue Dùnsgàthach means the stronghold of shadowed heights, for the hour at dusk when the cathedral throws its shadow across the valleys below. This is the spiritual and political axis of the planet — the seat of S'kytri authority, where ascensions, oaths, and treaties are made — and the Commonwealth's presence here is deliberately light: guests, never governors.

The Lowlands — The Bonnie Banks
The settled river country below the sacred peaks, gathered around Loch Bràeth and its feeder rivers. This is where most of Skye lives and works, and where the planet nearly died: when the Loch's inflow was deliberately collapsed during the war, the Lowlands starved and the clans turned on one another. Its restoration is recent, living memory — and the foundation of the Commonwealth's standing here.

Where the old regime's bureaus were built to extract and control, the Commonwealth's halls are built to treat: this is where Skye's civil administration, its finance, and its diplomacy sit, deliberately below the sacred Canaitith so that no instrument of mere governance overlooks the Cathedral. The angular occupation-era stone has been softened with local carving and living mosswork, and the quarter runs clean off the Hydroworks.
- The Divan Hall: The seat of the Commonwealth's civil administration on Skye and the chamber where envoys treat with the Council of Elders, carrying the diplomatic tradition of the Canaitith Citadel down into the working city.

The Cloisters keep the open, wind-touched architecture the S'kytri favor — wards built to the sky rather than sealed against it — and run clean off the Hydroworks.

The Commonwealth's standing pledge here is restitution: the Outlands are no longer left to die.

Beyond the named cities and districts, Skye is a land of countless small towns and villages strung through every elevation — terrace hamlets in the farm country, craft villages along the belt, herders' steadings on the high meadows, and fishing settlements on the loch shore. Daily life turns on the pub and the shopfront: every village of any size has its alehouse where the pipes play and the news is traded, its row of shops, and its market. It is an unhurried, neighbourly life, lived close to the land and the weather.
Travel & Transport
The maglev built up from the Lowland hub reaches the major towns — Brus, Trossachs, and the loch quays — but no further. Beyond the line, Skye moves as it always has: on the backs of horses and orbaks, the hardy tusked, heavy-coated riding-beasts whose sturdy hooves are made for uncertain mountain ground, serving for plough, cart, and saddle alike and herded as readily as ridden. The skies are the older road. The wing-clans of the heights need only their own wings, but for the wingless and for heavy cargo, Skye has always turned to the thranta — the vast, gentle flying beasts bred and trained on the Outland ranches, the traditional aerial transport of the planet long before any engine came. To ride a thranta is, on a winged world, to borrow flight.
SECURITY
Moderate — Skye is a restored frontier world held in a light, respectful grip rather than a fortified capital. Its defense is layered but deliberately unobtrusive: the native S'kytri Skyguard hold the skies as they always have, the Commonwealth supplements rather than garrisons, and the sacred Highlands are by edict closed to heavy force. The measures below balance genuine protection — against piracy, smuggling, and any return of the Imperium — against the planet's sovereignty and the velvet-glove posture the Commonwealth maintains here. Old clan tensions and the rugged, scattered terrain keep the rating honest at moderate rather than high.
Perimeter Defenses:
- The Skye Anchorage: A light orbital naval station, raised on the repair and watch stations the First Order seized during the liberation and held ever since. Not a fleet base — berths and yards for the cutters and corvettes that run system patrol, customs, and search-and-rescue.

Skye's recent history is one of suffering compounded by betrayal. Brought into the old Imperial fold and then abandoned to the Ssi-Ruuvi Imperium's invasion, it endured occupation, the deliberate destruction of Loch Bràeth's inflow, and the famine and water-scarcity that followed. In the desperation, the Highland and Lowland clans shut out the Outland clans entirely — and, given the chance, eliminated entire Outland clans outright. Genocide, starvation, and thirst stalked the planet while the occupation held.
The liberation that broke the siege of Brus and freed the Bannock holdouts was hard-won and bloody, fought through the city's ruins and the mountain's carved tunnels. The Elders who survived it remember that an earlier regime had treated them no better than the invaders did, and that memory still shadows every dealing with outside power.
The Commonwealth inherited this wound, and with it the infrastructure the old order left behind — the engineering foothold at Trossachs, the field hospitals at Loudoun, the captured orbital stations, the administrative seat now made over into the Chancellery Quarter. Its claim to legitimacy on Skye rests not on conquest but on what it has restored and continued: the Loch made to breathe again, the terraces rewatered, the healers trained, the trade lanes opened, and a standing commitment that the Outlands will never again be left to starve. That the same Commonwealth brings with it the cheerful, total reach of its broadcast Signal — and the quiet weight that comes with it — is a truth the people of Skye are only beginning to weigh.
