OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
SETTING INFORMATION
  • Shipyards Name:
    • Crossroads Prime Orbital Array
    • Crossroads-9 Orbital Array
    • Crossroads-15 Orbital Array
  • Classification: Orbital Ring Shipyards
  • Location: Crossroads Prime, Crossroads-9, Crossroads-15
  • Affiliation: Crossroads Republic
  • Population: Moderately Staffed
  • Accessibility: Difficult to access due to heavily-guarded security hangars, and the fact there are only two methods for workers to enter: military-grade checkpoints that shuttles dock to, and space elevators. Shipyard personnel need to pass through several checkpoints, although their security measures still involve fingerprint-scans, iris-scans, and all personnel pass through scanners.
  • Description:
    • A sleek and effective design, built in sections and assembled in orbit built to closely follow the guideline and blueprints of the Kuat Drive Yards Orbital Array, albeit with modern shielding and materials, as well as modern computer systems and other such necessities. Its capabilities are meant to match KDY, so the construction copies KDY's primary facility to a great degree. There are some size differences, particularly in the Crossroads-9 facility which is the smallest and oldest of the three.
    • However, after initially purchasing and observing the facility first-hand Starlight Shipyards and Crossroads Defense Industries engineers and designers saw numerous places where improvements could be made to their own design due to the KDY Orbital Array's thousands-of-years of building and improving on previously-present facilities. So, the CDI and SLS designers jointly came up with improvements and more efficient design choices such as reactor rooms which are better-suited to the orbital array and with more efficient load-lifting and transport infrastructure and by having its shipbuilding facilities being within the confines of the facility itself.
    • In fact the transport system of the Crossroads orbital arrays are so comprehensive someone could go anywhere on the station they wanted (So long as they have the proper security clearances) without arduous delays or excessive walking. There are also better-placed turbolifts hubs, more redundant security measures, and a very "Crossroads" flair for damage control and protective measures.
    • The facility itself, while bearing a superficial and thematic resemblance to the KDY Orbital Array is a marked improvement due to the fact it has the luxury of being redesigned from the ground up, but retains much of the same placement of major sections such as the office spaces, warehouses, drydocks, shipyards, security stations, spaceports, factories, dormitories, and rec centers and non-shipyard spaces for crew and workers to spend time to unwind and let off steam.
    • All these shipyard facilities are purposely-designed, as was the agreement with CDI and SLS, to be capable of manufacturing military-grade warship components ranging from complex military shield generators, computer systems, sensors, weapons, and armor and other such military goods. While a predominantly civilian starship manufacturing facility the arrays are required to build a handful of warships and warship components to be sure the skills and abilities are kept as new workers arrive and older workers retire. This is so that, in the event of a wartime industrial mobilization, the shipyards can seamlessly enter the military logistics base without a substantial amount of retooling and work force training hampering mobilization.
OPERATIONS INFORMATION
  • Production: A mix of civilian merchant and pleasure ships and large and small Crossroads warships and warship components.
  • Specialty: Mass manufacturing of warships and civilian ships for local use or for sale to the open market.
  • Output: This facility, when properly supplied and staffed, can produce ships at a very high rate, on par with KDY.
  • Market: It was built to handle large ship orders from the Crossroads Fleet itself and for orders from the open market.
POINTS OF INTEREST
Bars, Clubs and Restaurants for the shipyard staff with large comfortable dormitories for crew, workers, and staff.
Well-equipped facilities for rapid and efficient production of ships ranging in size from shuttles to superfreighters which are enclosed within the large ring to protect them.
Space elevators anchoring the facilities to Crossroads-15 and Crossroads Prime, allowing for easy movement of people to and from the lunar bodies.
Large interior-placed shipyard facilities for producing everything needed for civilian ships and warships from start to finish.
Warehouses and manufacturing facilities with seamless transportation infrastructure to allow for rapid and efficient movement of raw material and finished components to the shipyards and drydocks.
Excellent office spaces for administration as well as design staff for the shipyards themselves.
Large control centers for everything from movement of materials, handling traffic to and from the station's spaceports, station systems, security, and of course defensive weapons control stations.

SECURITY
High
There are evenly-spaced EM-2500 Twin Laser Cannon Turrets, "Dart" Missile Launchers, and J-28 and J-32 Proton Cannon Turrets in six-gun batteries able to handle the attack of large numbers of large warships. Although its defensive weapons aren't its primary means of defending itself, its shields are more than capable of handling very heavy capital ship bombardment. There are permanently-stationed Crossroads Republic Marine units on the shipyard ring for anti-boarder defense, along with a large number of Starlight Shipyards-owned alongside regular military "Sentinel" and "Sentry" droids and private security personnel who handle day-to-day facility security in their own sectors of the shipyard, while the CRAF personnel handle their own security. There are also large security concentrations where operations emanate from and are controlled from. In the event of war the private security sectors are subsumed into a larger military command, and seeing as Starlight Shipyards security personnel are almost-universally reservists for the Crossroads military, they will be folded into their own units under the command of regular officers and assigned to units aboard the orbital array sectors that they guard as their day job.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
A pair of facilities envisioned as the pride of shipbuilding in the Crossroads System, they are cooperative efforts by Starlight Shipyards and Crossroads Defense Industries. Starlight Shipyards is where the idea emanated, and unable to either fund or get approval without the aid of the governmental industrial company Crossroads Defense Industries Starlight Shipyards was awarded a contract where they would conduct a building program where CDI would match their investment on a credit-per-credit basis to build a copy of the KDY Orbital Array for the purpose of mass-production of large numbers of various kinds of ships and other craft. After intense negotiations the joint effort gained access to KDY's schematics for their home facility and began making a sweeping series of alterations and improvements to suit their needs and take advantage of their planned two rings' from-the-ground-up build process to use newer and more effective technologies and techniques which would have necessitated taking apart KDY's facility in order to effect them. It took decades, but in 402 ABY the first sections of the array began to be linked together in orbit over Crossroads-9, which was slated to teach the Crossroads engineers how to conduct such a massive effort. This smaller array was constructed in a period of slightly over two hundred years, but taught the two companies valuable lessons which were put into effect when in 625 ABY the Crossroads Prime and Crossroads-15 Orbital Arrays began construction. The construction went faster this time thanks to the initial test-build over Crossroads-9 and by 810 ABY both the Crossroads Prime and Crossroads-15 arrays were complete and churning out ships of all sizes. Both of the larger shipyards were built at the same time to foment rivalry between the project construction crews to allow them to take advantage of the added speed with which they were built. But still, the four hundred-year-long project was a long one, but one which the Crossroads Republic believes to have created some of the finest modern shipyards in the galaxy, and proof of their Republic's coming-of-age as an equal to the established industrialized Core Worlds.
