"They're too monstrously strong...they can't be exactly human...can they?" ~anonymous Antarian Ranger

OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create a heavily armed infantry unit that allows the Silver Jedi Concord to meet the Baedurin shock troops of the Bryn'adul on equal footing
  • Image Credit: "Trooper B" by Otomozok and "Battlefield" wallpaper created by FLX-II combined together and modified by yours truly
  • Role: The Hellfighters fulfill the traditional role of heavy infantry within the Silver Jedi Concord's armed forces. Wielding slightly heavier than normal weapons and wearing heavier than normal armor than the typical infantryman, the Hellfighters are well suited for conducting short-range frontal assaults and are equally adept at pushing back enemy attacks. A large number of heavier weapons can make them fairly dangerous to large creatures as well as many enemy vehicles, which sometimes see these elements of these units deployed as special hunter killer troops among more conventional and lighter forces.

GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Unit Name: Concord Heavy Infantry Regiment - "The Hellfighters"
  • Affiliation: Silver Jedi Concord
  • Classification: Heavy Infantry

  • Description: Concord Heavy Infantry Regiments are an unusual amalgam of ancient tactics and the literal memories of the Old Republic's troopers and some of the Lucerne consortium's latest technologies. Exclusively staffed in all positions by Ajax-series Synthetic Soldiers, Hellfighters appear hulking, physically powerful humanoids wearing heavy battle armor and oversized slugthrowers. On the battlefield, Hellfighters prefer to overwhelm their opponents with sheer firepower before engaging them in vicious and almost bestial hand to hand combat. Synthesized solely to defeat the Bryn'adul threat to the galaxy, these fighters are often as unsettling to their allies as to their enemies due to their great physical strength and the greater prevalence of psychological instability prevalent. While their few engagements so far have won the Hellfighters accolades, these regiments still have some questionable moral clouds around them which would likely invite more scrutiny by their allies if their situation against the Bryn'adul genocides was less desperate.

COMBAT INFORMATION:
  • Unit Size: Large
  • Unit Availability: Common
  • Unit Experience: Trained
Equipment:

All troops: Ajax-series Synthetic Soldiers equipped with Charnoq Heavy Armor

Typical Squad Layout with equipment

Command Element (1 Squad Leader, 1 Rocketeer)
Fire Team Aurek (2 Riflemen, 1 Sniper, 1 Machine Gunner)
Fire Team Besh (2 Riflemen, 1 Sniper, 1 Machine Gunner)

  • Combat Function: On a strategic level, the Hellfighters largely act as conventionally trained line infantry, using fairly orthodox strategies and movement patterns based on those clone army of the Old Republic. Subunits of a regiment follow a strict chain of command that is partially offset by internal culture of self initiative in the absence of a superior officer or orders that directly contradict possible actions, similar to the discretion used by some Clone ARC troopers. This semblance to that ancient army extends down even to the squad tactical level thanks to the use of flash-imprinting training derived from the memories of clone troopers on individual Ajax-series Soldiers. Unsurprisingly, it's not uncommon to see squads use the classic Geonosian Square formation or build off the experiences of their ancient predecessors to aid Jedi in combat. But while many of their “soft” abilities and preferences come from these ancient stocks, a good third of tactics are the result of newer equipment and the inherent abilities of Ajax-series Soldiers themselves. Typically, Hellfighter squads travel as two fireteams abreast connected in the middle by the command element. This set-up allows the squad leader to easily control the squad by verbal commands or silent visual signals as needed. On the offense, Hellfighter squads prefer to whittle down their opponents by sniping at a distance with battle rifles and sniper rifles before advancing under heavy covering fire from their machine guns and underbarrel grenade launchers, especially in conjunction with radiation grenades. Once at close quarter ranges, Hellfighters often physically grab their surviving opponents and literally rip them apart or deliver gauntlet-based weapons fire at point-blank range. On the defense, Hellfighter squads tend to form two prepared fighting positions with either cover or concealment which are based on using the squad's machine guns to form overlapping fields of fire and kill zones. The squad's other weapons support the machine guns by covering other approach angles or by driving unwary foes into the line of the site for the machine guns. The squad leader may reinforce such a position with his portable shield generator and the rocketeer might be used to take on especially tough or armored targets.
Strengths:
  • Baedurin Busters: Engineered to face Baedurin shock troops on at least equal standing, the Ajax-series Synthetic Soldiers that make up the Heavy Infantry Regiments have impressive raw muscular strength and a limited ability to regenerate/self-repair on the battlefield. Combined with heavier than normal personal weapons as well as being programmed with all known knowledge of the Bryn'adul and their tactics, the Hellfighters are then further and constantly trained in extensive field exercises against simulated Bryn'adul forces. This makes them highly capable of fighting Baedurin and other Bryn'adul forces to a standstill.

  • Allied Fighters (Jedi): Ajax-series Synthetic Soldiers utilize memories from ancient Galactic Republic clone troopers as part of the build of their psyches and training, providing them with knowledge and abilities to better allow them to fight alongside Force user allies and against enemy Force users. This includes such things as staying close to Jedi in order to help stay protected by defensive lightsaber arcs and force barriers while conversely using converging, slugthrower-based attacks to overwhelm enemy lightsaber users. It also includes mental techniques to try and resistance Force mental techniques, though is often undermined by their unstable psychological nature.
Weaknesses:
  • Low Mobility: Hellfighters wear heavy armor and don't have access to significant amounts of vehicles, meaning that they tend to move relatively slow on the battlefield compared to conventional infantry.

  • Psychologically Unstable: Flash training and limited amounts of memory flashes from old Galactic Republic Clone troopers are used as the basis of training for all of the Hellfighters, leading to some notable mental instabilities in their psyches. This is further exacerbated by the nature of the Ajax-series Synthetic Soldiers themselves - neither really living nor machine itself - an Ajax does not possess the potential immortality afforded to a pure machine nor the ability to reproduce like an organic, leading to frequent questions about what constitutes their legacy or their ability to impact the galaxy at large. More so than most organic infantry and especially battle droids, Hellfighters are ironically much more likely to let emotions impact their decisions on the battlefield.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

The Fall of Sarka brought the Lucerne Labs consortium to the point of desperation that they were willing to try and make more morally questionable products if they would help stop the Bryn'adul menace. The Ajax-series Synthetic Soldier was one of these results - towering behemoths that could fight a Baedurin hand to hand and win, yet one that also blurred the line between what was organic and what was a machine. Further clouding these waters, Lucerne Labs programmed these synthetic soldiers using a mish-mash of clone trooper memories and flash training provided to them via their Directorate connections with Imperium Forge Works. Those synthetic soldiers who appeared to have the greatest psychological stability were then taken aside and given abbreviated traditional officer and/or technical skills training, allowing the synthetic soldiers to staff all positions within a regiment. Once equipped with arms and armor being churned out by Lucerne Personal Defense, these synthetic soldiers were marshalled onto the field and underwent field exercises on Kashyyyk, one of the key worlds of the Silver Jedi Concord that was close to the frontlines with the Bryn'adul. Hellfighters have since become one of the more common troop types appearing on regions of Silver Jedi Concord space as they ready themselves to face the oncoming Bryn'adul assault.
