My character wants the Sith defeated, but she wouldnt risk the lives of more of her people if she didnt have to. That isn't necessarily the political alignment of EVERY Senator, but for most Jedi and Senators, if we are taking our tips from the IC past, we would know better than to keep it up.

I would avoid telling other people how their characters should feel or what they should 'know better' . Not every writer sees the IC past the way you do, and not every right minded senator or jedi sees it that way. If you want to convince me, do it IC and don't try to tell me how my character would react if I was doing it right.

No, I don't think it would prevent the Jedi from doing their job. If they were an official government entity then yes, but the Jedi Order is wholly separate from the Republic as a government. It would be like a private company still selling arms to the Mandos or something.

I imagine there'd be proxy wars. E.g. Korea, Vietnam, Bay of Pigs, Afghanistan...or like all the fighting that took place during the 'Cold War' in TOR between Jedi and Sith before open war resumed.


Jedi go to War Zone X claiming they're 'volunteers'. Like the Chinese did during the Korean War. CIA, err, GRIM provides weapons for Mujaheddin and Contras...err, freedom fighters!

Keep in mind that we are not a militocracy. We are a Republic. Despite being at war, if diplomatic resolution is possible, even if that resolution is just a ceasefire, that is the logical course of action for our government to take. Continuing a "hot" war will see the deaths of millions to billions (to trillions) more citizens. And even though we know that the opposition is unlikely to cease all hostilities, can we justify continuing the bloody conflict simply out of our own desire to beat our enemy? That is incredibly naïve, and would ultimately do more harm than good.

It is the Republic's duty to protect the citizens we swore to protect while we had dominion on their worlds. We are obligated to take back their planets. The Sith slaughter civilians on the daily, whether we are at war or not.

That's true. But we also have duty to those who are within our borders at this very moment. We can step out of our borders and try to regain territory lost, but the Sith won't stop from pushing into our boundaries in response, thus threatening lives we have sworn to protect, now. While we may wish to continue to protect planets that are no longer within our boundaries, the harsh truth is that those now belong to the Sith. Can we justify continuing a war when we know that doing so will only put more lives into danger than lives that we can save?

Consider also: if we had a kind of cease-fire in place and tensions between the two sides reached a certain level of cooperation, would it be impossible to send humanitarian aid to those planets we once swore to protect? It might only be a trifle, but it is at least a demonstration that we have not forgotten them. And, in Tyl's opinion, that respect of life does far more than trying to take an already war-stricken world back by bloodshed.

I also tried to phrase my post in a self-reflective manner. These are things that my own character would have to ponder if such a scenario were to arise. And, considering we have yet to arrive to such a place, is all entirely hypothetical.

Also, Cold War sounds fun. We need a huge skirmish thread with the One Sith. A battle so bloody and devastating that it convinces both sides they need a truce.
As it is, IC the One Sith have no reason not to keep going Genghis Khan on us, so we need some reason for this to happen.

Then, we return twice as strong and the galaxy shall be ours!

...If we can stop arguing about stuff.

So probably not. But we'll try!
