Great lengths had been taken in the search for greater power. Perhaps nothing encapsulated that search more than the Sith Empire's research into superlaser technology, the crowning achievement being the Emperor's own vessel, the Behemoth. In emulation of the Sith of old, the dreadnought features various degrees of superlaser weaponry designed for anti-ship combat and planetary devastation.
First kyber crystals, then Amaranth crystals, were used to harness the immense energy output generated by Isotope-5 and focus it into an extremely volatile form of energy. The scientists of the Kainate inherited this research and expanded upon it, incorporating other research into the nature of focusing crystals and the Dark Side of the Force itself. They shifted away from concentrated beams and instead put more effort into perfecting highly compact bursts of energy. This shift was already apparent in the last iteration of the Behemoth's superlaser, the Regrush'sutta, which fired pulses of destructive energy along tracer beams towards a target.
This new version, codenamed Chirikyât, was inspired by orbital autocannons equipped on various siege cruisers employed by other galactic powers. Instead of a solidified beam, the Chirikyât would instead rapidly accumulate concentrated Isotope-5 energy (which had already been focused through a system of Amaranth crystal lenses), and discharge it out through elongated barrels. Advanced magnetic fields would then accelerate the discharged energy to its fastest velocity right before ejection, propelling the energy out through space on a rapid trajectory towards its target.
The heat generated by the energy's movement through the barrel was astronomical and would cause catastrophic failure without the weapon's system of coolant to regulate the barrel's temperature during firing. Damage to the coolant systems would render the weapon inoperable, as software safeguards would prevent any controller from firing the weapon until the coolant system was repaired or replaced.
