OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To codify an object of significance to Kai, as well as a potential lightsaber crystal.
  • Image Source: Pictures taken by me, of a piece of petrified wood which I own, because it's cool.
  • Canon Link: N/A
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Primary Source: Bamarre | The Bamarri | Petrified wood
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: Natural processes in the Bamarre region of the planet Chaldea
  • Affiliation: Kai the Doppelganger
  • Market Status: Closed-Market
  • Model: N/A
  • Modularity: No
  • Production: Unique
  • Material: Chaldean marble (a type of permineralized wood found only on Chaldea)
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Crystal is a sample of Chaldean marble, a substance with mystical properties
STRENGTHS
  • Stormbreaker: When installed in a lightsaber, the crystal allows the wielder to more easily grind lightning/ION energy without the risk of shorting out the blade.
  • Heart of Kai: When used by Kai, it acts as a focusing crystal, enabling him to channel the Force slightly easier and with a little more intensity.
WEAKNESSES
  • Fragile: Chaldean marble is no more resilient than typical crystal. It can be chipped, shattered, or otherwise damaged if struck with enough force, to say nothing of energy, heat, acid, or lightsabers.
  • Illegal Contraband: Technically speaking, the shard is stolen contraband, but the rarity of Chaldean marble and the isolation of the planet mean that it is unlikely anyone would know what it is or that it is illegal to own one. That said, it isn't impossible; a knowledgeable gem collector, geologist, or a Force User who recognizes the signature of Chaldean marble may not be fooled.
  • Muffled: It is strongly implied that there may be other uses (or at least "untapped potential") for the shard. In the hands of Kai, however, the crystal has little use other than as a lightsaber crystal. Kai's Sithspawn body is tainted by the Dark Side, and therefore he can only use a fraction of the crystal's actual power.
  • Trinket: Zapping this particular piece of crystal with electricity will not create a new Bamarri. The processes which lead to the birth of one of these beings are unique and no way of replicating the precise circumstances has been found.
DESCRIPTION
This crystal is a small shard broken off from a larger chunk of Chaldean marble, a type of petrified wood found only in the Bamarre region of Chaldea. Three colors are visible on this particular piece: sienna, ochre, and dark purple. These colors are due to the presence of iron oxide and manganese dioxide, respectively. The sienna edge of the shard appears to still have a tree bark texture to it, revealing the crystal's origins as prehistoric wood that was gradually fossilized over many millions of years.

Chaldean marble has long been thought to possess mystical properties, mainly due to its association with the Bamarri, a species of crystal beings who are born when lightning strikes Chaldean marble. The marble is heavily protected by the Chaldean government, and cannot be legally harvested. Kai obtained the crystal when he returned to Bamarre for his tragic reunion with his guardian, and now uses it as a focusing crystal in his lightsaber.
