The Nihilus Decree sanctioned by the Palatine Council of Vandemar officially is a collection, categorization and archiving of Force related materials and objects throughout the Galaxy. While pursuing the task themselves, Vandemar has also put out a bounty for the delivery of materials. So far there have been no reported incidents of any hostile encounters or destructive intents. But rumours spread and with the arrival of the Hegemon himself on the world of H'ratth where once a Jedi Academy stood, they seem to tighten around the idea that this collection is intended more as a sequestration and deconsecration of Force related sites, knowledge and perhaps even individuals.
Noble protectors, curious volunteers and ambitious individuals will find themselves on opposing sides in this first action of a war to end all wars.
Regrettably the Palatine Council had issued a limitation to space travel due to the shortage of Tibanna Gas, therefore Aurelian was bound to commit a lot less manpower to this undertaking than he would have wished for. But the brewing escalation between Caragachi and the Farworlds Alliance meant that the home defence was of higher imperative than the beginning of this campaign.
The Jedi Academy of H'ratth had been renowned for its healing focused teachings and housed several famous individuals of the Jedi kind. Its hidden nature had been a great asset in the undoing of their arrogance though, as the actions following operation Knightfall had shown. Complacency and enlightenment do not go well hand in hand, but by the time the order of the old republic had realised its insufficient awareness and vulnerability, it had been too late. For all his Sith-bound shortcomings, Aurelian could not deny the success of the first Galactic Emperor, Sidious had been very successful in luring the Jedi into their downfall.
Now he stood among rabble and ruins of an old relic, predating most villains the Galaxy offered currently. A statue of gold towering between broken pillars, crushed roofs and shattered doorways, a testimony of durability against the common short lived vanity that was so widespread among the Jedi and Sith. Aurelian was permanence, he was continuity and he was anathema to religious zeal and blind dogma.
Two Skytroopers picked up a corpse to carry it into the big grave they have dug a bit further from the old Academy site. Aurelian paid it no second thought. They were raiders, looters which had attacked a local archeology mission and wiped them out. A rumour had surfaced that a forgotten chamber was found with some Jedi treasure inside of it and that had lured the scavengers in, carrion-feeders which had made short work of the academics and in turn now got annihilated by the Hegemon's force. A handful of Knights, a dozen Skytroopers and some assistance of protocol droids and they had picked up the work where the archeologists had left it, at a sealed portal, excavated beneath several old chambers.
Aurelian's gut was telling him that the pirate scum had been the lesser of their opposition. Rumours of Jedi knowledge spread far and wide quite swiftly. More were to come.
