PRODUCTION INFORMATION
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Composite-Beam Laser
  • Size: Extremely Large
  • Weight: Extremely Heavy
  • Ammunition Type: Kyber Crystal
  • Ammunition Capacity: Large
  • Effective Range: Extreme
  • Rate of Fire: Low
  • Damage Output: Very High
  • Recoil: None
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • A somewhat down-sized version of the HCBL-3 weapon, which is mounted on the Vanguard-Class Heavy Attack Battleship. and therefore shares many of the same characteristics, strengths, and weaknesses.
  • Four tributary beams fired from armored firing tubes diagonally towards the middle meet within the bow opening where the central beam emitter fires out and the main laser is fired from there. The beam is bright whitish-yellow in color.
  • Has a heavily-armored and ray-shielded reactor housing kyber crystals, each reactor is built by hand and is unique to each weapon due to the fact no two crystals being the same.
  • Is built into the ship's hull itself to insure there are no weak points in the hull itself so the weapon is well-encased in armor and shields.
  • Can engage from outside the range of heavy railguns and heavy missiles due to the beam's sheer power.
STRENGTHS
  • VERY POWERFUL, has the ability to readily-engage corvettes and frigates with relative ease and can potentially deal substantial damage to ships its own size and can pose a threat to battlecruiser-classed ships, and in numbers can wear down a planetary shield.
  • The beam can be cut across space to act like a blade.
  • Will last in service so long the kyber crystal reactor is kept stable and safe with relatively little trouble.
  • The emitters have large armored doors to protect them from enemy fire.
  • Can engage from outside the range of heavy railguns, providing a tactical advantage.
WEAKNESSES
  • The weapon is integral into the hull of the ship it is mounted in, if the ship is put out of service the weapon cannot be taken out and put into a different hull without tearing apart the upper bow of its own ship, and likewise, if the weapon is damaged and needs to be replaced the ship's effectively getting a new dorsal bow section.
  • A kyber explosion can potentially occur, while unlikely, it is a key point of potential sabotage.
  • If a single beam emitter is disabled the weapon will be unable to safely fire.
  • Requires several minutes to recharge between shots, in close quarters this can make the difference between life and death.
  • No reactor is the same as the other, each reactor is hand-built, meaning damage done to the kyber reactor requires very specialized repairs which none of its gunners can handle.
DESCRIPTION
Taking a cue from the Empire's Star Destroyer Conqueror the Crossroads Republic has been stocking up on Kyber Crystals for generations and running tests and simulations and poured millions of credits into economical use of kyber crystal-based laser weaponry. This has all led to the point where the Crossroads Republic now has the ships, the industry, and the stockpile of kyber crystals to put its first production models into production. The smaller and the newer of the two weapons systems developed and put into production to fill this new doctrinal role of long-range offensive engagement is the CBL-6 Composite-Beam Laser. It is the new replacement for the Repulse-Class Attack Battleship line's heavy tractor beam. The reason for this switch between weapons is the diminishing returns seen in simulated engagements where the slow-to-take-effect tractor beam just wasn't dealing the kind of damage that a beam laser-type weapon, which could fire from long range, could do in a shorter period. And with the kyber crystal supply now being large enough to support a replacement program for the new Block II Repulse-Class ships the weapon was put into production.

When deployed these capital ship weapons are ironically tasked with engaging much smaller ships in fleet actions, with Repulse-Class ships going after corvettes and frigates from long range to wipe out enemy screening ships to give their starfighters and bombers more opportunities to land critical blows and to pull off enemy starfighters from escorting their own bombers into the attack, leaving enemy anti-ship capability severely limited at the outset of an engagement. With this weapon there is also the opportunity for capital ship vs capital ship duels to go more towards the Crossroads Republic's own ships by letting the Repulse-Class land a hit that severely weakens or damages an enemy capital ship, providing a headstart for destroying the enemy right from the beginning of the engagement. And in small unit engagements groups of Repulse-Class ships armed with CBL-6's can be counted on to conduct powerful long-range Alpha Strikes against the biggest and most important enemy ships in the fight. On top of this anti-ship lethality the weapon itself is quite capable of landing meaningful hits against battlestations and planetary shields, giving an edge towards siege warfare, a type of fight that few other planetary defense forces are equipped to handle.
