Born from continued improvements on the preceding Dominance-class Strike Fighter before it, the Caedus-class Superiority Fighter is the culmination of over a decade of Sith experimentation and research. Uniquely profiled with a sloping hook-like fuselage and two lateral solar wings, the Caedus resembles a bird-of-prey when in flight and carries enough armament to make that comparison all the more accurate.
The Caedus comes equipped with a pair of standard laser cannons mounted on the chin right below the cockpit. These are the Caedus' primary means of attacking other ships, as the cannons are directly aligned with the pilot's point-of-view. The Caedus also features a pair of heavy laser cannons, one mounted on each lateral wing, which can be fired in alternating bursts at the pilot's discretion. Both of these weapon systems can be sustained for rapid-fire, but they gradually lose their accuracy the longer the rate-of-fire is sustained. Two ordnance launchers were also mounted on the main fuselage and could fire a variety of missiles from proton torpedoes to concussion missiles to mag-pulse warheads.
A single pilot is enough to handle the Caedus, although in indirect emulation of their enemies the Sith have begun to advance the theme of integration between pilot and machine. The Caedus includes an integration port for the Empire's OO-series astromech droid, allowing this artificial co-pilot to monitor the starfighter's systems and operate the aft heavy laser turret during combat.
The cockpit was state-of-the-art, replacing the two-handled yoke of previous fighters with two independent control columns with levered handgrips. These columns offered a higher range of motion and control over the starfighter, with strong haptic feedback allowing the pilot to maintain a greater sense of their surroundings.
While also equipped with deflector shields, it was mostly fixed around the starfighter's fore and aft sections, and the lateral shielding tended to be much weaker.
Unlike the Dominance-class starfighter, the Caedus was equipped with a hyperdrive system. This allowed the Caedus to act independently from carriers, operating as rapid-response squadrons along an ever-shifting chaotic border with the Empire's various enemies. The Caedus could also be used in a scouting and predatory role, moving swiftly behind enemy lines and preying on supply convoys and less defended targets and melting away before enemy reinforcements arrived.
