Hild's master wanted her to be a disposable pawn, never fully trained, never fully geared. But she needed a lightsaber. So he went and took one from a Jedi to give it to her rather than going through the hassle of setting up a proper test. If she was to be sacrificed in the future anyway why waste time? All she had to do was bleed the crystal and then she had her own weapon. It is not a perfect fit on her hands, but she makes it work somehow.
