OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Aylwood Tree
    H8a1FQ3.jpg
  • Origins: The original body of Claudia Aylmer, mutated by Sith alchemy
  • Other Locations: Test Site Verdant Pasture | Aboard the Vixen and the Leviathan
  • Classification: Alchemized Tree
  • Average Growth Cycle: 4 standard years to fully grow; could live indefinitely with proper care.
  • Viability: Freakishly resilient, the tree can resist most diseases and combat infestations by producing toxins. On the other hand, it requires constant care and must be kept in a temperate, moisture-controlled environment.
  • Description: A fairly unremarkable tree, apart from the trunk, which is vaguely similar in shape to a feminine humanoid. Unusually, leaves grow along the trunk as well as on the branches. It produces a yellow fruit covered in a gold "webbing" which can look deliberate, but follows no set pattern.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Average Height: 1.65 meters (5 feet 5 inches)
  • Average Length: N/A
  • Color: Wood is dark brown and has a pleasant fragrance. Sap is amber in color. Flowers are white and fruit is yellow with golden webbing.
  • Nutritional Value: The fruit of the Aylwood tree is edible, with a tangy taste. It can temporarily satisfy hungers beyond that of the stomach, leaving a feeling of contentment and satisfaction that can be mildly addictive.
  • Toxicity: The gold "webbing" which wraps the fruit contains a potent hallucinogen that alters their perceptions and, in some cases, grants prophetic sight. It can also cause symptoms similar to food poisoning, if you're willing to puke your guts out in exchange for cryptic visions of the future.
  • Other Effects: The root of the Aylwood can also be used to make a healing tonic.
  • Distinctions:
    • Aylwood is a fragrant dark brown wood that responds to the will of Force Sensitives. Carving it can bind the carver to the wood, provided the carver works with the grain. Working against it will make artist and subject into enemies; the goal may be achieved, but the cost will be high.
    • Aylwood amber is a resin that is especially susceptible to manipulation by the Force. It has a variety of uses, limited only by the ambitions (and the skill level) of the Force User, such as:
      • Amber Prisons - Essentially a fancy form of carbonite, the amber can be used to entrap a living being indefinitely, like an insect preserved in amber. NB! You must have a writer's consent to trap their characters, and they get to decide how long they are imprisoned for.
      • Amber Pods - Cocoons of amber may be used to transform or create living beings, similar to an egg.
      • Amber Constructs - Droid or golem-like constructs may be created using alchemized amber.
      • Imbuement - The amber is easier to imbue with the Force, and therefore could be useful in the making of jewelry, armor, weaponry, and other items.
Strengths:
  • Versatile: The tree produces a variety of materials which can be harvested or altered.
  • Well Protected: The tree can resist a variety of diseases and infestations.
  • Pray I Don't Alter It Any Further: The alchemist can create different effects through imbuement or by combining different materials together, such as mixing Sith poison into the sap to create a toxic resin. Get creative with it.
Weaknesses:
  • Requirements: The Aylwood must be cared for regularly and kept in a temperate and moisture-controlled environment. It will not survive neglect or changes in temperature.
  • Rare: There are currently only a handful of living specimens currently in the galaxy, and its existence is known to only a select few people.
  • Non-Alchemists Need Not Apply: To properly utilize Aylwood to its full potential, you must be Force Sensitive and have sufficient skill in alchemy.
  • Nullify: Placing Aylwood near a Force nullifying object (such as ysalamiri or a Void Stone) for long periods of time can have potentially disastrous consequences for the tree.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Claudia Aylmer was experimented upon by her grandfather, the Sith alchemist Messala. The effects of this experimentation didn't become apparent until Claudia hit puberty, at which point her limbs began to stiffen like wood, her skin hardened like bark, her blood thickened into sap, and her legs fused together like a trunk ending in snaking roots. The transformation was slow, reducing her quality of life gradually. When it reached a point where it threatened her life, a friend took her to Ishani Sibwarra and Arcturus Dinn, two alchemists, and begged them to help save her.

Ishani and Arcturus, consulting with fellow alchemist Khayyam, were unable to find a way to reverse the transformation. Instead, they transferred the essence of Claudia into a clone body whose DNA had been cleansed of all alchemical modifications and corruption. The empty husk of her original body was saved for study.

The Aylwood tree is the resulting organism, a new species of tree that can trace its origins to Claudia's botanized corpse. Further specimens have been grown from seeds taken from the fruit of the original tree, finding their way into the Khayyam's lab in Test Site Verdant Pasture on Dahrtag and in the gardens aboard Ishani's Vixen and Arcturus' Leviathan.
