ADVANCED SYSTEMS
Reinforced Armor: The War Hawk variant has thick, reinforced duranium armor compared to its base model in order to effectively take on enemy ground defenses including anti-air turrets, machine guns, and even a fighting chance against a direct hit from a surface to air missile.
Hardened Shields: The War Hawk variant has upgraded shields compared to its base variant in order to better weather fire from enemy ground defenses including anti-air turrets, machine guns, and even a fighting chance at surviving a surface to air missile hit.
Dedicated Anti-Missile Defenses: The War Hawk variant has significant amounts of chaff, flares, and a strong ECM capability, targeted mostly at dealing with surface to air missiles, its most dangerous opponent in appropriate operational usage.
STRENGTHS
Nightmare against Ground Columns: The War Hawk variant was purpose-designed to make the life of enemy infantry and vehicle columns without air superiority a living hell and cripple their ability to maneuver openly. Its combination of heavy rotary blaster cannon and guided incendiary and cluster bombs can shred concentrated infantry formations, its AGMs can take out medium vehicles like IFVs, APCs, medium walkers, and artillery, while its heavy ATGMs are capable of causing significant damage to heavy armor.
Heavy SEAD Capability: The War Hawk variant is also designed, via its HARM missiles, to carry out effective long range suppression of enemy air defenses ranging from infantry-mounted devices to heavy anti-aircraft turrets and systems.
WEAKNESSES
Vulnerable to Enemy Starfighters: Being a ground attack variant of its parent fighter, it is not suited for dogfighting due to its comparatively lower speed, maneuverability, weight, and lack of anti-starfighter weapons. Dedicated interceptors and starfighters will be able to take out its heavier defenses over time simply by outmaneuvering it and strafing it with laser cannons long enough to overwhelm its shields. If at least air parity is not achieved, it is better to keep the War Hawks grounded or face heavy losses.
Poor Space Combat Capability: The armament of the War Hawk is specialized on taking out enemy ground forces and its hyperdrive was removed to allow its plethora of weapons systems. Its only notable space capability is to fly up and dock in carriers and fly down into the atmosphere, aside from that, all but the most lightly armored and bulky civilian ships can either outrun or withstand the War Hawk.
DESCRIPTION
Designed as a ground attack variant of Voland Military Enterprise’s Strike Eagle fighter, the War Hawk is a dedicated ground attack and SEAD starfighter. Its purpose is to cripple an enemy army's ability to maneuver and resupply itself by laying down punishing heavy precision strikes against opponents who have lost the battle in the skies. Featuring a powerful heavy rotary autocannon, AGMs, ATGMs, HARMs, heavy anti-infantry incendiary and cluster bombs along with upgraded armor and shields, the War Hawk is capable of devastating enemy ground columns formations, heavy enemy anti-air defenses, and even light to medium reinforced structures and bunkers.
In tactical use, it is best used after at least a level air parity is established, with strong recommendations for deployment after air dominance or ideally air superiority as it is not capable of dogfighting in any way and will need a starfighter escort. It is best used to strike concentrated infantry, vehicles, and fixed anti-aircraft emplacements. It is heavily recommended to use them in conjunction with the Argus, as the SAWACs can locate help locate concealed or out-of-sight targets with its powerful sensors and equipment for the War Hawk to destroy.
It has generated some controversy from the more squeamish sections of the Elysium Empire’s political establishment and military due to its use of incendiary and cluster munitions against infantry which some consider to be cruel and inhumane, but Voland Military Enterprises asserts hat war itself is inhumane and that if one does not wish to have such weapons used against them, one should not fight the Empire to begin with.
