Subterranean complexes like this wasn’t something Elias spent much time in having come from Genetia, whose surface was covered nearly entirely in oceans. But the fact that these tunnels remained more or less intact - or at the very least, traversable - was an impressive feat. It was more than could be said of the upper chambers, whose structure had long since become unstable and even collapsed over the decades.

Whether it was a result of poor design, critical damage during battle, or Sullust’s unforgiving atmosphere, he couldn’t say.

Elias continued onward past Alana Sunrider Alana Sunrider and Nathan Bloodscrawl Nathan Bloodscrawl , approaching what appeared to him to be the opening the newcomer had mentioned. The Jedi spoke lowly over his shoulder, his voice softly echoing through the pillared chamber behind him.

I think I found it,” he said as he peered into the room beyond.

In the gloom, Elias could just make out the shadowy form of a large quadraped across the chamber. The grating sound of teeth on metal dissuaded any uncertainty about the creature’s identity.

Found your rockrender, too.

Force Flight was exhausting. Even the few who learned it generally couldn't hold it but for short bursts, since it was so draining. Corbin had maintained it to fly up out of the pit and a considerable distance over the land while carrying a passenger. He really didn't have the stamina to get himself back to the pit, at least not that way. Instead, he opted for a faster, riskier way. Riskier, but still relatively safe with his armor on. He used Ballistakesis on his armor and shot it through the air, letting the momentum carry him the rest of the way.

Having made it to the pit again, he dragged himself to the edge. He stood up and looked down into it. Maybe he ought to rest a bit, take some rations...
Before he could even move or take another step, he lost consciousness from his exhaustion, plummeting down the pit....

"Rockrenders don't eat living things," Alana whispered softly, looking through the gap. "Just materials rich in minerals." She paused to check her pockets. The most potentially dangerous items were her lightsabers, at least the crystals inside. She'd made the hilts out of non-metallic materials, so hopefully less interesting to a rockrender?

It was hard to tell. Technically, all living things were made of chemicals and minerals. But something shifted in the Force, coming from behind and above. She turned and gazed back up the tunnel.

"Something's wrong?" She couldn't place what it might have been though. It was an unfamiliar sensation, almost like a void that she couldn't see if she looked directly at it.

Nathan got hesitant as they all reached the entrance.

He spotted it too.

"The injured Sullustan said the creatures had gone berserk in the mining tunnels..." Nathan mentioned in as quiet a whisper to them as possible, blinking and avoiding the gaze of his bloody, dead wife who wasn't there.

"It didn't seem all that interested in us but still...I wouldn't get close to it..." Nathan advised.

Alana Sunrider Alana Sunrider mentioned something being wrong, and Nathan tensed, ready for danger.

"I think it's a juvenile..." he added, circling the creature at a fair distance.

"We should find a way to subdue it and examine it without causing it harm. Perhaps a disease is affecting them down below, causing some sort of distemper." he mused quietly.

A disease of the mind, perhaps,” Elias quipped as he studied the creature from afar.

The effects of the Dark Side on animals was an understudied branch of xenobiology, at least in the scientific community. Most Jedi understood the negative impacts of meddling with nature’s balance in the Force; While humans and other sentients wane in humility and wax with lustful power, the more simple mind of a creature becomes erratic and frustrated.

Much like the rockrenders here, they lose control of their temperament.

But perhaps… we should try to capture it, alive and uninjured. It may yet prove invaluable to study the cause of this phenomenon.

Elias looked to Nathan Bloodscrawl Nathan Bloodscrawl as he contemplated how much of their mission he should divulge. The man seemed helpful enough, and Elias couldn’t sense any trickery. He couldn’t particularly sense Nathan in the Force, either, giving weight to half a dozen sinister theories about who - or what - the stranger was. But now wasn’t the time for mistrust and suspicion. Those were vehicles better suited for their Sith counterparts.

We suspect the involvement of the Sith,” Elias said finally, willing to share at least that much. “We’re unsure what they want, or what they’re after, but if it lies beneath this monument to our hubris, then it can only mean trouble for the Coalition. And, unfortunately, for the poor creatures here as well.

His golden eyes turned back to the rockrender, trying to spy what it was munching. Mineral deposits or mining equipment, he hoped, and not the body armor of a miner. Or the durasteel supports that held the roof above their heads.

Alana activated a small penlight, shining it into the darkness of the cave in the direction of the crunching sound. The creature was quite large, but probably not as large as it could be.

"A juvenile," Alana whispered, sinking to one knee to look less threatening. "I'd hate to see a large one. And I've heard some Jedi are quite skilled at interacting with animals and other creatures."

She gestured with one hand to the gauntlet on her wrist. "I'm better with tech than animals. Any of you good animal friends?"

Nathan only gave a sigh of resignation at the answer given by Elias Edo Elias Edo .

"That's why I never mess with ruins like these unless I got no choice." he said, tone bloodless and empty, staring at the Rockrender

"I can try to distract it..." Nathan said, approaching the baby rockrender.

"Hey..." he called out to it, waving his arms.

The Juvenile swiveled it's head towards him, grunting. Nathan got a glimpse of glimmering gold and other rainbow colors in the stone.

The Rock render trotted closer to Nathan, grunting growing more aggressive.

"If any of you have a way to stun this thing, now would be an excellent time..." he said to Alana Sunrider Alana Sunrider and Elias.

The Rockrender's grunting grew more aggressive as it got closer, looking like it would charge him at any second...

Corbin was jolted awake by the sudden slam into the ground and the subsequent activation of his integrated med-system. The armor had absorbed and dissipated a good bit of damage, but it obviously couldn't stop all of it, not falling from that high up. But his body would be repaired in no time, even his bones would be fully restored. All he had to do was wait. He entered a Force trance to concentrate his body's rapid healing to speed up the process. It shouldn't take more than half an hour before he'd at least be able to move again.

Easy there,” Elias said, partly to the Nathan Bloodscrawl Nathan Bloodscrawl as well as the rockrender. It was young and alone, two things that make even docile animals unpredictable.

The Jedi eased ahead, following at a distance behind Nathan. He took slow, deep breaths as he felt for the creature through the Force. It took a moment to find it, but when he did, there was little doubt that something greater was happening. The rockrender felt frustrated, like some invisible itch had come upon its mind and refused to go away.

Be careful,” Elias warded, stepped closer to the beast. It’s munching sounded like nails on a chalkboard, but so long as it was occupied with its meal, he didn’t care.

What’s your plan?” he asked in a breathy whisper.
