OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: Create the combat ensemble originally developed before the Frontier-Core conflict in Gwerin Doeth history as utilized by the Unified Gwerin Ecumene. The design chosen to represent this armor is done in an attempt to maintain an intended 'skull-like' countenance in the helmets which they maintain for intimidation and pick something which somehow captures the historic cruelty of the Gwerin Doeth during the Imperial Age when they could be characterized from a point of view as bloodthirsty and cruel slavers. This armor system isn't meant to represent the "Cutting edge" in terms of Gwerin Doeth protective technology but is still very formidable and the general-issue combat ensemble available to every single member of the Ellylon Republic's military. I chose this design because the moment I saw it recently it struck me as being very iconic and distinct which I thought was appropriate for Star Wars.

ARMOR PIECES: Mk IIIE Arrester Armor
  • Light Ensemble:
    • M9A1 Femoral protectors: A pair of Duramyne femoral protectors are cut to be worn over the legs and over the uniform trousers above and below the knee with a hole cut into it for the knee to protrude through to allow it to hinge successfully, these femur protectors are several millimetres thick and offer kinetic resistance to ballistic projectiles typically fired from slugthrowers and firearms. They are additionally resistant to abrasion, cuts and stabbing.
    • M7A7 Combat Gloves: There are a pair of high-adhesion magnatomic gloves constructed from Polycene and Duramyne-reinforced gloves with Composite Nanolaminated Crystal plates laser cut to protect the dorsal surface of the hand and sit over the knuckles dramatically increasing the user's effectiveness in unarmed fighting.
    • M7A4 Armored Boots: These laced and zipper shin-high boots are constructed from a polymer that is earthed and come with several thin laser-cut Composite Nanolaminated Crystal plates that conform to the boot and wearer's foot. Unfortunately the boots do not cover the knee so as to reduce weight and keep a high degree of motion.
    • M8A1 Skinsuit: The Arrester Armor's skinsuit is a form-fitting pressurizable bodysuit and either fully-sealed along the entire body or cut with short sleeves for maximum comfort and tapers upto the command collar around the jaw. It features a 'sandwhich' construction and consists of the following from the outer-most layer to the inner-most layer: Duravlex, Duramyne and Polycene although the Polycene does not come into contact with the wearer's skin. The Skinsuit reliably resists low-velocity to high-velocity intermediate cartridge firearm/slugthrower projectiles but is lacking against directed-energy weapons and other threats. However, as it lacks many sophisticated electronics and thanks to the suit's material properties alone is an excellent electrical resistor and mostly proof against EMPs. The body-suit does however features a very compact battery, compact quantum computer, environmental control system and additionally an automated defibrillator. The skinsuit tapers up into a "Battlesuit Collar" which includes a shielded self-clearing respirator to prevent damage with two large intake/outtake openings on either side of it for the closed-circuit rebreather system which it will connect to, it also features a transmitter for the on-board comlink. Additionally there is integrated noise-cancelling hearing protection that goes over the wearer's ears and is designed to cancel out sounds of a harmful decibel level while permitting normal conversation through. Both ear-muffs on the command collar contain a digital comlink receiver with a line-of-sight range of approximately 55 kilometers (34 Miles). The left ear-muff additionally features a prominent laser rangefinder which integrates with the M3A1 Helmet Assembly.
    • M4A2 Spine stabilizer: Up the rear of the ensemble attaching to the belt and running up the wearer's back to the collar is a series of segmented Composite Nanolaminated Crystal plates reinforced with Duravlex-Duramyne-Polycene, this spine stabilizer provides rigidity and structure to the spine when the wearer is subjected to ovepressure from an explosion or sonic force and prevents the spine from distorting or losing its' alignment as the Duravlex-Duramyne-Polycene hardens into a rigid structure preventing a whole slew of devastating injuries minimizing the chance of paralysis.
    • M2A3 Deltoid Protectors: Constructed from Composite Nanolaminated Crystal and laser-cut for the user's profile these Composite plates sit over the shoulders and are very effective at protecting the user, the hard-armor is supplemented by the same material blend used to make the skinsuit dramatically improving its' resistance against both directed energy weapons and kinetic weapons their shape also dramatically reduce the risk of dismemberment. The deltoid protectors contain room for batteries as there is a pair of flashlights built into their surface.
    • M1A1 Utility Belt: For mounting accessories, pouches and other equipment the Ensemble features a utility belt which wraps around the waist and serves to be a mounting point for additional armor plates and webbing such as thigh holsters and thigh bags.
    • Republic Military Camouflage Uniform: A camouflage uniform issued by the Republic Military to its' branches of service and worn over the skinsuit for modesty and camouflage purposes. The Uniform is a seven-color camouflage scheme in comes in several different variants including: arid, tropic, alpine and black.
  • Medium Ensemble:

    • M10A2 Femoral protectors: The M10 Femoral Protectors are thick pieces of Duravlex-Duramyne-Polycene that are attached to the utility belt and secured with straps that move front to back around the inside of thigh. These femur protectors cover the outside of thigh and are worn in conjunction with the M9A1 Femoral protectors for increased ballistic and plasma protection of the lower limbs.
    • M7A5 Armored Boots: These laced and zipper shin-high boots are constructed from a polymer that is earthed and come with several thin laser-cut Composite Nanolaminated Crystal plates that conform to the boot and wearer's foot. The A5 variant of the boots has an additional piece of laser-cut composite nanolaminate crystal that attaches to the boot via mounting point that sits over the knee and is held in position via a strap.
    • M5A5 Cuirass: The cuirass is a semi-conical chest plate constructed from thick Composite Nanolaminated Crystal with its' backface reinforced with Duravlex-Duramyne-Polycene to defeat transferred kinetic energy before it can reach the skinsuit. Additionally, the Cuirass features sophisticated sensors, medical and diagnostic equipment with connectivity to the skinsuit's on-board quantum computer a sizeable anti-matter battery and an ionite resistant Photon-based energy shield projector That provides comprehensive protection to the wearer's entire body. The M5A5 Cuirass' semi-conical shape dramatically increases its' effective thickness against kinetic projectiles and those that strike it at an obtuse angle are liable to harmlessly deflect off its' surface towards the wearer's shoulders at a dramatically reduced velocity. The tubes of the rebreather system however are still exposed and vulnerable to damage.
    • M4A2 Spine stabilizer: Up the rear of the ensemble attaching to the belt and running up the wearer's back to the collar is a series of segmented Composite Nanolaminated Crystal plates reinforced with Duravlex-Duramyne-Polycene backing, this spine stabilizer provides rigidity and structure to the spine when the wearer is subjected to ovepressure from an explosion or sonic force and prevents the spine from distorting or losing its' alignment as the Duravlex-Duramyne-Polycene hardens into a rigid structure preventing a whole slew of devastating injuries minimizing the chance of paralysis.
    • M3A1 Helmet assembly: The helmet assembly is arguably the most iconic piece of the whole Arrester Ensemble it is a two-piece setup of thick segmented composite nanolaminated crystal plates laser-cut to perfectly fit its' wearer's head. The front plate goes over the wearer's face and extends back approximately halfway over the skill and then connects to the front piece through an internal harness with pair of internal belt closures made of Duravlex-Duramyne-Polycene. The edges of the two pieces fit perfectly together in a feat of astonishingly precise engineering sealing along the Skinsuit and equalizing with its' pressure so that it cannot be pried off or removed. Helmet-Mounted display is provided by a liquid-crystal display screen which offers a whopping two-hundred and ten degrees of horizontal and one-hundred fifty degrees vertical field of view, the liquid crystal display screen is fed its' image by the three cameras built into the faceplate, with the camera on the right-side being the visible light camera while the two on the left are Infrared and Ultra-violet respectively. The helmet assembly cannot be readily removed as the straps are largely concealed with their length running internally and the two pieces of the helmet assembly are pressurized against the skinsuit's seal, it would require several thousands pounds per square inch of pressure to pry it free.
    • M2A4 Deltoid Protectors: Constructed from Composite Nanolaminated Crystal and laser-cut for the user's profile these Composite plates sit over the shoulders and are very effective at protecting the user, the hard-armor is supplemented by the same material blend used to make the skinsuit dramatically improving its' resistance against both directed energy weapons and kinetic weapons their shape also dramatically reduce the risk of dismemberment. It features a 'sandwich' construction and consists of the following from the outer-most layer to the inner-most layer: Duravlex, Duramyne and Polycene although the Polycene does not come into contact with the wearer's skin. • M5A7 Cuirass: The cuirass is a semi-conical chest plate constructed from thick Composite Nanolaminated Crystal with its' backface reinforced with Duravlex-Duramyne-Polycene to defeat transferred kinetic energy before it can reach the skinsuit. The M5A7 Cuirass' semi-conical shape dramatically increases its' effective thickness against kinetic projectiles and those that strike it at an obtuse angle are liable to harmlessly deflect off its' surface towards the wearer's shoulders at a dramatically reduced velocity. The tubes of the rebreather system are fully concealed beneath a thick composite nanolaminated crystal collar, with supplemental segmented armor connected between the utility belt and base of cuirass to cover the abdominal region effectively.

SPECIAL FEATURES:
Helmet features:

Body armor features: Mark IIIE (Other variants vary in their physical design, functionality remains the same)
STRENGTHS:
  • Extraordinarily resilient: It's heavy and cumbersome but little doubt can be made about the hard armor's protective qualities or resilience, the material qualities of the composite laminated crystal plates with their reinforced soft armor backing make it extremely resistant to all conventional ballistic and directed energy threats. The density of the armor is sufficient to defeat all radiation threats and the combination of an advanced skinsuit provides it the ability to keep the wearer safe from all conceivable biological, chemical and radio logical hazards. Generally speaking it takes sustained plasma fire for the hard armor's integrity to be compromised, against kinetic threats the armor can successfully prevent penetration by even firearm munitions advertised for anti-material and anti-tank use.
  • Helmet Lenses: The helmet's lenses provide an astonishing field of view at they connect to a high-resolution liquid crystal display with broad capabilities, these lenses are tremendously tough and resilient and unlikely to be damaged additionally each lens can see into a different spectrum of the Electromagnetic band. Together they provide the capability for the wearer to see into the visible light, true infrared and ultraviolet spectra giving very competitive situational awareness and the ability to spot concealed personnel and assets. Thanks to the helmet's software it also features light amplification for dark environments.
  • Hydrostatic Gel: The semi-rigid pressurizable material Polycene is used throughout the ensemble's construction within its' armor and is a high contributor to the heavy ensemble's weight particular. However, it is extremely useful as the Polycene is capable of increasing of decreasing its' pressure in response to applied kinetic forces increasing the time they take to decelerate dramatically reducing the risk of injuries associated with non-penetrating projectile impacts. Additionally, it also allows a user wearing the suit of armor to survive and tolerate high falls despite the heavy ensemble's considerable weight and increases the effective of disarmed fighting as the bodysuit's gloves for example are going to pressurize and harden on impact protecting the wearer and inflicting more severe injuries on the assaulted party.
  • Photon-based shielding system: Arrester Mark III armor and all of its' variants ensembles are equipped with a photon-based shielding system, the shielding system functions on similar principles to the Unseen Guardian Energy Shield in that the photons are manipulated to behave like charged particles by magnets spread throughout the ensemble's plating and that these Photons interdict any incoming force such as kinetic projectiles. The shielding system applies a force equal to the force applied to its' field of Photons generating friction in the case of ballistic attack until the projectile is melted away and the resultant plasma carried harmlessly away with the photon field's movement. Plasma or energy-based weapons are more effective against the "hard light" shield and deplete it more quickly by comparison with photons being 'confused' and causing them to stop behaving like charged particles and shearing from the shield's or orbit. As it is a quantum photon-based system and not a tradtional electron-based system it protects the underlying suit from the effects of Disruptors, Ionic weapons and Ionite.
  • Psychological warfare: When one considers the design of the Arrester armor combined with the physical qualities of the species who designed and have worn it for millennia one would be correct for believing that the designers intentionally wanted their enemies to look upon the armor and experience be demoralized by the skull-shaped appearance of its' helmet remarkable for its' lack of a traditional visor or helmet lenses.
WEAKNESSES:
  • Explosive decompression: With a comprehensive life support and re-breather system this comes with acute vulnerabilities the most glaring of these is the one that comes from the sudden penetration either of the Rebreather unit on either the Mark III, III/E or the additional oxygen tanks on the Mark III/F, though they are all well-protected often beneath tough hard armor plating should any of these units be breached suddenly during battle there is a serious risk of explosive decompression which could cause serious injury to the user. This is mitigated somewhat by the active shielding technology but cannot be removed completely.
  • Exposed portions: To try and maintain mobility and flexibility there are several locations not covered by the ensemble's hard armor even at its' heaviest variant this is most notable around the inside of thighs, the space between under the arms to the hip and the ventral surface of both arms are all at increased risk of damage and harm to the wearer.
  • Cumbersome: One of the Arrester Armor's greatest drawbacks is its' sheer weight and bulk and cross-section while offering very good protection it makes subjects such as seating in a vehicle or an aircraft an often troublesome proposition, though it was designed for a race of very large humanoids with high volume requirements the armor seems to compound this issue and is regarded as uncomfortable. The Arrester Armor's use falls into a very specific niche and is generally unsuitable and unnecessary for most troops. It is clearly an old Gwerin Doeth design and the ergonomics of such a monstrous unwieldy combat armor are apparent to all along with its' intimidating countenance.
  • Lightsabers: Lightsabers are exotic plasma-based melee weapons that use a Kyber crystal for beam focusing they are extremely powerful and even though the Arrester Armor is constructed from exotic materials some of which have been fabricated through Nanolamination they still do not stand a chance against a Lightsaber making these weapons exceptionally effective in close-quarters. Additionally, the extremely powerful electromagnetic field of the blade confuses the Photon particles that make-up its' shield system causing them to disperse from the transparent orbit they would usually be held in.
  • Motion tracker flaws: The motion tracker equipped to the Arrester Armor isn't very sensitive as such it generally doesn't make contact with objects moving at a very low velocity or objects of insignificant mass. As a result, it is possible for an individual to successfully maintain their camouflage around wearers of the armor provided their movement is slow.
  • Shield behavior: Due to the shield generator's behavior it it necessary that there are areas not protected by the densely packed photons otherwise the shield would constantly be drained by generating friction on physical contact. As a general rule the palms of both hands and bottom of both feet in addition to the back of knees are unprotected by the Photon Shield, meaning in a practical situation the shield can't protect the wearer from mines concealed beneath the ground and that their lower extremities of the feet are liable to grievous bodily harm in this situation. Additionally the shield generally needs to be taken offline by the user whenever they are seated or in a confined space as the photon field would be generating constant friction and therefore draining its' own charge.
  • Sonic Weapons: Sonic waves fired from sonic blasters propagate through all the materials used in the Arrester Armor's constructions extremely quickly, as a result it is very vulnerable to attacks of this nature and the wearer would be wise to not expose themselves without the photon-shield active to sonic weapons fire.

DESCRIPTION
The Arrester-series of multi-purpose body armor originally saw service for the Core-Frontier war where it went up against its' predecessor used by rebels and led to one-sided engagements between Unified Gwerin Ecumene troops and their opponents. Arrester armor is an ancient series that is being superseded by newer designs however it remains as a very prominent historic and cultural icon as such it can be found in the possession of Gwerin Doeth soldiers, mercenaries and law enforcement personnel through the Galaxy. The ubiquitous nature of the armor with the alien species is a result of the millions of Arrester-series suits were left uninhabited after the purge of the Gwerin Doeth's galaxy by their diad array. Once these suits were recovered they were often upgraded with technological and material innovations and pressed into service by UGE successor governments such as the Gwerin Commonwealth and Ellylon Republic. The Armor is distinguished by its' prominent helmet which was designed to be vaguely reminiscent of a skull in according with design tradition.

One of the series' most glaring drawbacks is that it is very heavy and cumbersome and while this is compensated somewhat by its' intended users' physical characteristics and strength it still does not diminish the fact at standard gravity the heavy ensemble weighs approximately 45 kilograms or nearly 100 pounds and naturally this increases in response to high gravity. As such the ensemble is a modular system and users can decide how much or little armor plate they desire to wear. The most beneficial pieces of armor to wear is the full skinsuit, helmet and cuirass as these three contain the majority of the Arrester's sophisticated technologies and sensors. The user of the Arrester has access to a variety of medical options should they become injured under field conditions for example there is an automated defibrillator managed by the suit's on-board quantum computer which will detect cardiac fibrillation or arrest and activate according to correct this, for the field administration of drugs and stimulants there is a number of intravenous ports located over the arms so that the skinsuit doesn't need to be breached or damaged to render effective treatment.

Skinsuit is the lowest piece of protective equipment and comes into physical contact with the wearer's body it is constructed from a hardy Duravlex-Duramyne-Polycene sandwich laminate making it highly resistant to thermal energy and resistant to firearm and slugthrower munitions with the Polycene granting the wearer the ability to survive albeit painfully in a vacuum and tolerate significant amounts of kinetic energy that is applied as a result of falls, blunt force trauma and gunshots reducing the risk of injury from these hazards significantly. It is an advanced piece of equipment and tapers up into a collar with respirator and comlink equipment. The skinsuit seals against the wearer's skin in a form-fitting fashion thanks to the Polycene and when combined with the helmet utterly protects the wearer from harmful wavelengths on the electromagnetic spectrum along chemical and biological hazards. For extended survival in a contaminated, submerged or vacuum environment the Skinsuit is equipped with a closed-circuit rebreather which recycles the user's breathable vital gases allowing them to survive for hours in such an operational setting for this reason the medium and heavy ensemble is sometimes affectionately referred to as a "Diving bell" particularly the "F" variant of the Heavy Ensemble.

Hard-armor plates of the ensemble are laser-cut to the wearer's form and confirm to their skinsuit accordingly, the composite nanolaminated crystal plates are supported by Duravlex-Duramyne-Polycene backface reinforcement eliminating or reducing the risk of the hard material spalling and potentially harming the skinsuit or its' wearer. All this backface reinforcement adds significant weight to the ensemble due to Polycene's high density and molecular weight but makes for a protective suite that can effectively defeat not just kinetic threats but also directed energy weapons. Composite nanolaminated crystal has an extraordinarily high melting point and low thermal conductivity as such most conventional plasma weapons pitifully fail to penetrate its' tough hide. Making this even more formidable the cuirass comes equipped with a Quantum mechanics Photon-based energy shield generator far more advanced than its' predecessors or "deflector shields" the shield generator uses magnets placed throughout the armor's structure to trick the Photons into behaving like charged electrons and as such it functions almost identically to the preceding unseen guardian-series energy shield although with the added benefit that it hardens the armor against the effects of EMP, Ionic attacks and
Ionite. Additionally, as the shield interdicts even extremely low velocity projectiles such as melee attacks over the protected areas it heavily skews CQC encounters in the favor of those who have access to Arrester armor.
