STRENGTHS
  • Data management system: The helmet mounted intelligence system is an efficient data management system with a broad scope of capability which makes it highly valuable to the users, it contains a fully functioning "Heads-up display" And is capable of being customised in accordance with user taste and operational demands. Additionally further functionality can be added through the development of new programs or application to use in conjunction with the system.
  • Identification friend-foe: When used in conjunction with the Synthesis brian-machine interface the software can more accurately identify friendly or hostile targets by searching for the IFF transponder signal transmitted by the Synthesis brain-machine interface, friendly transponder bearing targets are out-lined in green in the system's tactical mode, red for targets the nervous system has identified as hostile and bright orange for unknown or inter-determinate. This feature makes it practically impossible for a disguised individual wearing a Republic uniform or armor system to remain anonymous.
WEAKNESSES
  • Light amplification: In an extremely dark environment the system's light amplification drastically increases until the tiniest light source is sufficient to illuminate a whole room. This creates a hazard in close-quarters fighting through extremely dark rooms where the user could be susceptible and made victim of sudden flash blinding should their environment suddenly go from complete darkness to highly illuminated while the system compensates and reduces its' light amplification.
  • Power Reliant: Like any electronic systems that consumes power for fuel the HMIS is no different as a piece of software its' reliant on hardware to function, each of the parts necessary for its' operation require power thus should the power source be expent or disabled through damage it is impossible for HMIS Data management system to function. A soldier using HMIS as a navigation, intelligence or communications aid would have a great deal of their effectiveness or interoperability with friendly forces robbed without it.
DESCRIPTION

The Helmet mounted intelligence system is an advanced propriety integrated data management system designed and developed by the Unified Gwerin Ecumene in the years 397,104 BBY-397,101 BBY as part of a program to replace the older helmet-mounted display systems used for centuries. It is incorporated into their helmet's software suite as the basis of all system software and featured in all of the Republic's body armor and powersuit designs. It is superior to the MFTAS system in the sense that it is fully capable of providing sophisticated tactical data to the user in real time as it is broadcast and received by the software, this is further enhanced by its' capability to securely connect with friendly infrastructure systems using a 256,000 bit encryption key at the local, sector and even intergalactic network systems administered on the individual's need to access this infrastructure and information naturally.

Its' data security doesn't stop there and allows a user to store upto 1 Terrabyte of information and content, which is extraordinarily useful for a soldier in the field when attempting to achieve their objectives and puts the greatest weapon of knowledge into the hands of the lowliest rank of soldier with the IBNS system capable of walking them through complex tasks from the content saved therein. Among its' impressively broad capability the Individual Battle Network System also provides navigational data either from content that is saved, retrieved from the holonet or actively gathered from operational movements and highlights points of interest in the operational area that the user might be interested in dynamically. As personnel are often required to work in a variety of environments the HMIS features light amplification capability raising the brightness of the surroundings.

Should the user be equipped with an Synthesis brain-machine interface the system wirelessly connects with it to dynamically provide identify friend-foe capability by searching for the transponder signal emitted by the interface in other personnel, material and vehicles. Different contacts are highlighted by different colors, friendly contacts are highlighted in green while hostile appear in red with unknown, inter-determinate contacts along with buildings and miscellaneous objects appear in an orange outline with medical supplies appearing in blue and communication broadcasters or receivers appearing in yellow. Because the system will be linked directly to the user's nervous system through the Synthesis brain-machine interface it can dynamically define and redefine what is considered interderminate or hostile whereas users without the interface must program the contacts manually. The Synthesis brain-machine interface has an added benefit for users in the Republic's military in that it acts to utterly defeat individuals who attempt to disguise themselves by wearing a uniform or armor that the individual might otherwise identify as indicating a friendly.

As a navigation and battlespace aid the IBNS software is without peer in data management, when its' navigation functionality is used it can display a dynamic map complete with generated grids and corresponding grid co-ordinates presenting isometric view of the battlefield, the accuracy of which is enhanced if connected to a battle network where the systems in use will communicate information across each other in real-time. More importantly, the navigation program software shows the precise location of hostile forces and time of the last contact with them and their estimated proximity, this feature of the system is absolutely game-changing from a tactical perspective as it allows supremely detailed planning and gives a soldier power to deliver pain-painstakingly precise indirect fire support. Making it possible for friendly artillery to decimate hostile cannons with counter-battery fire. One downside however of the IBNS' navigation program is that it cannot identify hostiles individually such as by rank or species, it can however identify units with the necessary data along with their unit type.

To aid in navigation a user can create their own waypoints and other navigation markers and can share their markers and navigational data across the battle network. The system has a true north compass with bearings displayed along the compass in mills to aid in directing indirect fire-support as waypoints and beacons show up as integrated icons within the direction in relation to the user's location. The Individual Battle Network System also features a standard intelligence program which provides a wide variety of capabilities including a comprehensive list of all their objectives along with a short description of what the objective entails and dynamically changes as they are accomplished according to data broadcast and received from the user's battle network, the intelligence program also provides basic biographic information about the system's user such as their name, rank, serial number and even includes the capability to display a picture with their current location along with the logo of the organisation they belong to displayed. This helps individuals who recover the user's helmet to identify the owner and their current location should the helmet be tethered wirelessly to an armor system the user wears.
