  • Affiliation: The Globex Corporation
  • Market Status: Open-Market
  • Model: ARAW (Autonomous Robotic Arachnid Worker), aka Spiderbots
  • Modularity: Very Significant; shape, aesthetics, material, and equipment.
  • Production: Mass-Produced
  • Material: Hexalloy.
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
  • Classification: Variable
  • Weight: Very Light
  • Height: Very Small
  • Movement: Octopedal
  • Armaments: None by default; can be militarised, options below.
  • Misc. Equipment: All standard equipment; heavily model/purpose dependent.
    • Frequently outfitted with repair/maintenance/construction tools when not assigned to security.
  • Resistances: Can survive in most environments. Can normally survive getting kicked. Cannot survive, say, a blaster bolt.
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • ARAW Spiderbots have modestly-capable droid brains that make B1s look smart by comparison but compensate by sharing computing power over short distances. A lone Spiderbot is dumb and unthreatening to armoured combatants, yes, but two dozen are terrifying and a thousand is sufficient to rip a heavy tank to shreds - or assemble the electronics, utilities, and more needed by an apartment in short order.
STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES
  • Skilful Swarm: Spiderbots are small, cheap, and modular - they can perform starship maintenance, efficiently assemble the interior of a biocrete housing complex, and kill trespassers with equal efficacy, equipment depending. A 'swarm' can share computing power to perform surprisingly complicated tasks, especially if guided by a central intelligence (often a SIC) or an overseer (organic or droid).
  • Cannon Fodder: Spiderbots are individually weak. They have a tendency to be destroyed in vast numbers in any conflict.
DESCRIPTION
Developed as part of Globex's ongoing efforts to render organic labour obsolete where possible, Spiderbots are small, modular, and work well as part of a greater 'swarm'. They compensate for weak individual processors by combining their processing power or slavishly obeying the orders of an overseer of some kind, usually an organic employee, an AI, a Scion, or an Eyebot.

Squires, being equally simple-minded, are nonetheless often seen working alongside them.

While advertised first and foremost for the civilian market, Spiderbots make for terrifyingly effective combatants - due to their cheapness, they can be fielded in vast swarms whose combined firepower can shred even heavy armour. Their skittering approach can prove catastrophic to morale.
