  • Power in a Small Package: The focal point of the Hellstorm Macro Cannon’s design is its fairly high stopping power contained within a moderately sized weapons platform, with the goal of developing a weapon capable of being mounted on cruiser-sized ships without sacrificing the punch one needs to contend with equivalent or larger sized warships.
  • Rail Technology: Part of the incentive for both GDI and Karavin Concern to work together on this weapons platform is to expand both company’s acumen for developing rail-based weaponry. The Hellstorm utilizes cutting edge iterations of this technology to supercharge the rounds it utilizes, increasing the weapon’s overall damage and velocity.
  • Durable: Possessing technically two layers of armor plating, (the outermost being a thin layer of impervium, the inner layer being a quadanium/chromium alloy), the KC-M44 Macro Cannon is particularly durable. It is altogether likely that the ship it’s mounted upon would crumble from excess damage before the weapon itself would.

  • Bulky: While designed to be mounted aboard ships as small as cruiser-class vessels, the weapon itself is rather bulky compared to what is typically mounted on such craft. While these can still be mounted in decent quantities, these weapons should be considered the main armament of any cruisers containing them, as they are designed to take up larger sized hardpoints (Note, larger sized ships can mount them in greater quantities, providing a greater advantage with regard to massed fire).
  • Intricate: From the inertial stabilizers, to the computer systems required to balance out the synchronization of firing (4) individual cannons within the same battery, the KC-M44 possesses very intricate calibration and electrical systems. While it is very durable, and possesses a level of Ion/EMP resistance, should the exterior casing be compromised and the weapon suffer additional damage thereafter, it is highly likely the aforementioned calibration will be throne off and the instrumentation within severely crippled. This would seriously compromise this weapon’s effectiveness.

With the expansion of the Eternal Fleet, the need soon arose for a capital weapon capable of bringing to bear stopping power similar to the heavier weapons contained aboard heavy cruisers and larger ship classes, without sacrificing overmuch speed and manueverability. The answer to this conundrum was born within the conception of the KC-M44 ‘Hellstorm’ Macro Cannon, which was streamlined after the formation of a joint partnership between both Karavin Concern and GDI Incorporated. While Karavin Concern handled the majority of the manufacturing and development of the weapon system, GDI assisted in ancillary research pertaining to the weapon’s rail driver system, which is an improvement compared to heavier mass driver weapons sytems, as it reduces the recoil normally associated with such platforms.

As a result of this partnership, the Eternal Empire was able to produce a high powered weapon for use in its ever-growing lineup of cruiser-class vessels, and GDI was able to expand its web of research and manufacturing facilities, as well as use of the KC-M44 for limited resale to private customers. The major advantage to this new weapon system is its ability to deliver solid stopping power & rate of fire without being overly handicapped by massive recoil and instability. While the Hellstorm cannot match the massive range nor compete shot for shot with heavier platforms, such as the KC-T93S. It can come close to matching the overall result of sustained fire from such heavier weaponry over a relatively short window of time.

Overall, despite its bulk and intricate internal workings (which require regular maintenance), the KC-M44 is a solid platform capable of performing at high levels when it matters the most.
