SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Alexander Hull Plating is designed around a five-tier layered system:
    • Layer 1
      • Designated the Doma Layer in development, or the Outermost, consists of an impervium-hijarna stone compound formed into overlapping plates of armor plating. The combination of these two materials gives the Doma Layer incredibly high defenses against energy and ion-based weaponry due to the special energy absorption properties of the hijarna stone and the strength of the impervium. Agrinium and a Dallorian Alloy coating is applied to alternating plates within the Doma Layer to further increase the energy resistance and heat resistance.
    • Layer 2
      • Designated the Corel Layer in development, or the Outer Intermediate Layer, consists of micro-layered and overlapping sheets of trimantium and laminanium interspersed with the AR-0B damage reduction armor component's ablative current to reduce energy blasts that have pierced the first layer and kinetic weaponry. The laminanium at this layer also provides a limited ability for this section of the hull plating to repair itself, although minor damage will repair itself much faster than major damage.
    • Layer 3
      • Designated the Galbadia Layer in development, or the Middle Absorption Layer, consists of a layer of titanium enhanced with the AR-0B damage reduction armor component that is designed to act as a crumple zone for kinetic impacts and explosive forces. Each of these crumple zones is filled with bistate thermal gel that allows for the further absorption of kinetic force as the gel hardens upon impact from a physical object.
    • Layer 4
      • Designated the Vallis Layer in development, or the Inner Nullification Layer, repeats the micro-layered and overlapping sheets of trimantium and laminanium from the Corel Layer. However, this layer has been further enhanced with a Force Nullification resin coating on the armor plating and a thin layer of Absencite, which can be activated from the bridge of a starship or other designated stations throughout the ship by channeling an electrical current through the layer to create a bubble around the ship that has a radius of a meter, that protects those within the ship's hull from mental Force-based attacks and senses.
    • Layer 5
      • Designated the Heavensward Layer in development, or the Innermost Layer, consists of a doonium bulkhead coated with Dallorian Alloy that has micro-scaled shield emitters that constantly emit a low-level deflector shield between the Vallis Layer and the Heavensward Layer. This is designed to further reduce energy weapon fire and kinetic weapons while providing some level of shielding in case the ship's primary shielding system has been reduced or rendered inoperable.
STRENGTHS
  • Five-layered system of defense offers an extremely potent defense against many ship-based weaponry systems, with multiple layers of different armors and materials that can effectively handle energy and kinetic attacks. The inclusion of an integrated deflector shield within the hull, along with specially designed crumple zones, further increases the armor's capabilities against impacts and explosive forces, along with reinforcement against the energy and heat from turbolasers and similar weapons.
  • The laminanium within the second and fourth layers of the armor gives these layers the ability to repair some damage to their hull on their own. Minor damage to the hull can repair itself quickly, while major damage can take some time or require outside intervention such as engineers at a drydock. This also allows hull breaches to be sealed up to better protect crews and life support from the vacuum of space.
  • The inclusion of nullification resin and Absencite within the fourth layer gives ships and crews equipped with the Alexander hull plating protection from mental-based Force techniques, such as, but not limited to, Battle Meditation, Force Fear and its associated enhancements, and Force Sense.
WEAKNESSES
  • Corrosive materials and disruptor-based weaponry can have a devastating effect on the armor plating as they can easily reduce the stone-laced outer plating and hamper the ability of the inner plating to repair itself.
  • While the laninanium present can repair the inner layers of the plating system, it cannot repair the outer layer if it is damaged or destroyed, requiring drydock time to fix the vessel. In addition, while it can repair minor damages fairly quickly, major damage can take hours if not days to repair itself and could still require drydock time for the ship to reach full operability.
  • As portions of the fourth layer are damaged or destroyed, this can create gaps within the protective bubble of the resin and Absencite, allowing Force users the ability to effect and sense the minds of those crew members within the vicinity of the gap.
DESCRIPTION

Developed as part of Aurora Industries' Aeon Program, the Alexander-type Advanced Heavy Plating is designed to be a heavy and more protective variant of the company's Golem and Titan hull plating systems. The Alexander-type plating was created with capital ships in mind, with the engineers within the program wanting to further enhance the defensive capabilities of Aurora's capital ship offerings with lessons they had learned from studying the Defiance in its deployments. While that prototype battlecruiser had been designed with the Titan plating, originally, what would develop into the Alexander was to be its hull before rush development of the ship for combat operations had forced Aurora to use the Titan, it became the base for what would form into the Alexander plating.

The new armor plating is significantly heavier than either of its fellow hulls, achieving a five-layered defensive system as opposed to the three layers of the Titan or Golem. The layers, as detailed above, give any ship designed with the hull exceptionally potent defenses, even before taking into account the new shielding system that Aurora was developing as the counterpart to the Alexander. Besides the traditional defensive measures of armor, such as thick overlapping plates of metal or impact gels or crumple zones, it had been stressed by Lady Raaf and Merryn that protection from the Force was also needed for any crews that were assigned to vessels utilizing the Alexander. Abenscite and nullification resin were added into the design to achieve that goal, something that was also being considered for further Aeon Program offshoots for potential buyers and the company to use itself.
