Private Absolution

C-hGWHiWsAAYaLG.jpg

The week Caedyn Arenais had given Kyra off had turned to two. As it turned out, he was right in assuming Kyra needed the time to heal. It wasn't his fault he couldn't foresee what Kyra would do with it. Kyra didn't know herself until halfway through hyperdrive towards her mum's.

It was easy to feel a sense of dread over your head when your mistakes were left unresolved. Being retrieved from the sith cult with Acaadi Acaadi had saved both their lives, and the lives of many other children. But she had seen what happened to those that had proven useless to the sith lord. Those children were still out there, somewhere, and she had found it a hard task to sleep until she finished what she started and got them back.

It felt good to see the mission through, even if she was going off books and risking it all. It didn't surpass her that if it hadn't been for Loske Treicolt Loske Treicolt , she might not be returning at all. But that was a semantic she didn't entertain. The Force had its ways, right? She wouldn't have died. Healing from things came differently for everyone. For Kyra, a bit of friendship and resolution had been all it had taken to bring clarity back into her life on Silver rest.

Oh Feck, was she gonna be in trouble when she got back. The sense of absolution slowly shifted to gut churning dread as she approached the planet. She didn't need the slight tinges in the Force to warn her of her would be waiting. She hadn't thought about her would be Master the whole time she was away, a concept which now left her panicked. Oh crap. Oh crap, oh crap. Wait. Crap. She had done the tunnel vision thing again. Crap.

Oh she was in for it.

The ship set down at Silver Landing far too soon. Kyra debated hiding herself under the floor panels. Or trying to sneak out the wheel hatch. But there would be no hiding from the Master she had left behind. Her arrival was reported, and she...

Oh, she was toast.

Two weeks had passed since Caedyn had taken Kyra Perl Kyra Perl under his official tutelage as an Apprentice, and only the first of those two weeks had gone to plan. In that first week, Caedyn had seen reason to give Kyra some much needed down time while he himself could organize his transfer from the Svivren Jedi Enclave to Kashyyyk under a full-time basis.

Elise, a senior member of the Silver Assembly had called upon Caedyn's assistance; having previously been a temporary substitute for the students of the Order when able to pull himself away from the needs of the Outer Rim, the Jedi Master had asked Caedyn to evaluate one of their students out of concern for their health and well-being, as well as their progress as a Padawan Learner.

Having established the Jedi Coalition within the Outer Planets Alliance and allocated great effort into revitalizing seven key Jedi locations for which would work to support peace and stability in the region, Caedyn had accepted and subsequently found himself intrigued by the young Padawan. He hadn't realized it until having left that first week, that Kyra Perl held a startling resemblance to Caedyn's former Master, Lief Lief ...

In any case, Caedyn had returned at the end of the first week, having ensured the Enclave of Svivren would continue to operate sufficiently in his absence while he would return to serve once again under the Assembly as a full-time Jedi Knight of Kashyyyk. It was a familiar setting, an environment that once served as his home following the ordeal on Commenor.

What had disappointed him most however, was the discovery that Kyra Perl had left Kashyyyk without informing anyone. Caedyn had been notified on his return, and the Hangar Logs confirmed that she had left some time before-hand. There were no indication of her destination and nor did any of the present Knights or Masters know of this unscheduled voyage. Meaning that she had gone AWOL.

The week that followed was filled with much concern and discontent. Kyra was a bright and capable Jedi student, yet she had been under great strain following the traumatic incident involving herself and Acaadi Acaadi 's being captured and she forced to witness her friends torture by a Sith Cultist seeking to corrupt them both. It was only natural that they were suffering from the weight of the experience, let alone the miracle that they had been found in time. So that week was an agonizing one where Caedyn could only wonder where she could have fled to in a Galaxy so vast, with possibilities endless...

A notification arrived one day out of the blue, the Jedi Knights datapad sounding his Padawan's registration within the Silver Landing. She had returned and it was all Caedyn required to drop what he was doing and head there right away. His thoughts raced as did his pace. Frustration and anger had come and gone in the days passed, but all that he found now was a need to know that she was alright. The interrogation would come only after he would see that she was still in one piece...

Kyra peeked out from the hanger door, her stress falling off of her as she found no one standing at her ramp. Quick as could be, she darted out, her movements jerky as she skidattled off the ship and hit the ground running. It was easier to breath once she found herself alone, though the sense of impending trouble kept her alert and moving.

Of course, trouble came in the form of the Knight she was avoiding, a feat which proved impossible as she darted around a stony foot path and slammed headlong into his chest. "Oof!" she stumbled back, landing hard on her butt. The girl sat dazed for a moment, looking indeed in one piece, if not roughed up and bruised around the neck and wrists. She had been overpowered, but had clearly gotten out.

And now she sat before him, heat flooding her cheeks as the guilt hit. "C-Caedyn. Hi. Um. Fancy seeing you here, how are you-" She brushed off her hands, trying to remain nonchalant as she picked herself up before him and bowed hastily.

"C-Caedyn. Hi. Um. Fancy seeing you here, how are you-".
She had run into Caedyn at full pace and taken the wind right out of him, causing him to stumble back several paces and grimace as he sought to collect and compose himself. It was hard enough to contain the wealth of stress and anxiety within him, but standing there looking down over her, the Jedi Knight found it difficult to find the appropriate words to convey how he was feeling without raising his voice.

It was rare for Caedyn to show his frustrations, let alone anger. Kyra Perl Kyra Perl had already brought it about several times before today and if she wanted to see him flare up again, she was going the right way about it. Exhaling slowly between pursed lips, Caedyn steadied himself both physically and within, trying to push back his want to come down on her.

"I was doing well until about a week ago when I was notified that you had left Kashyyyk with no explanation or word of where you were headed, nor whether you would return..." Caedyn responded dryly, his disappointment evident though he kept his emotions in check and swallowed back his annoyance for the sake of how sensitive he knew that Kyra could be. She had previously taken every word of his to heart, even when he had been trying to be supportive. She had a knack for seeing criticism where there was none, and so despite his frustrations, he still cared not to worsen her condition.

"I've been here for a week not knowing whether you were in trouble, hurt or Force knows how worse..." He exclaimed, unable to find the right balance between a sense of relief, concern and yes, anger.

"Would you be so kind as to explain...".

Kyra grimaced, taking a guilty step back. "Oh, yes, that, well you see... I hadn't meant to do it, it just... it just happened. You see, there were these kids-" she explained, wringing her hands out. "From that mission? Well we didn't get them all, some had been taken away before you guys got there, and I just kept- I couldnt stop- like who was gonna help em, you know? And I was on my way to my Mom's I swear, and then I thought- like, I could help them. And then- well... IguessIstoppedthinkingafterthat. I just wanted to get there..."

Her head hung a little, her voice growing smaller.

"You said I needed to heal and I did! I healed them, I brought them back to their family. It's your fault. I was just following your instructions," she concluded, daring to shoot him an apprehensively look as she twisted the blame.

"H-hold on a second..." Caedyn raised a hand in a halting gesture, looking rather astonished by her explanation. Conveniently vague and yet alarming all the same; "You mean from the mission where the Sith captured and beat Acaadi...-You went to find some kids that were involved in that ordeal?!".

She had barely survived that mission, found herself traumatized by it and now by the sounds of it, she had gone back for more. Caedyn had to try to pace himself, needing further details. "When I said take the week to heal, I meant stay here, relax and spend your free time with friends. Not to go out and nearly get yourself killed all over again...-Please for the love of all natural, tell me there were no Sith involved this time...".

Kyra Perl Kyra Perl looked as though she'd been through yet another dangerous affair, bruising around her neck and arms plain to see for her Master whom really only had assumptions to go on and a short lived history of his Padawan trying to skirt the truth around him in the weeks passed. "Details Kyra...-Tell me everything. Slowly, and in full".

Kyra shied back, giving an unwilling, "Yeaaaaaaaaah... Maybeeeeeeee..."

"When I said take the week to heal, I meant stay here, relax and spend your free time with friends. Not to go out and nearly get yourself killed all over again...-Please for the love of all natural, tell me there were no Sith involved this time...".

All she could do was cringe, looking blatantly down to her feet. "Yeah... about that..." Came the drawn out, unhelpful answer.

"Details Kyra...-Tell me everything. Slowly, and in full".

"Oh I don't think we have the time for that..." She glanced over his shoulder, stepping to the side as someone have a respectful head nod as they moved past them. The foot path to the hanger was small, merely meant as a short cut through the trees between Silver Rest central and the clearing on the outskirts, where ships had proper space to land. She was quiet for a painful moment, not wanting to be over heard. Once they were alone, she spoke again.

"Listen, I get your mad. But could we, um, do this elsewhere... people will see." The depths of her self-conscious nature peeked through then, the girl tossing a nervous look over her shoulder.

"Mad doesn't cover what I'm feeling right now Kyra...-Can you imagine how slow this week has gone by, sitting here in the Silver Rest worrying about where you were, if you needed help...-For all I know you could have been killed and if that had happened, I..." He bit his tongue, shaking his head and trying to regain some of his composure. 'She's young...-Her intentions were good...' he tried to remind himself. It didn't solve everything, but if she really did help some younglings then he had to be thankful that it wasn't all a complete disaster.

"C'mon then..." he said reluctantly, almost whining as he conceded in thinking for her self confidence and clear embarrassment at being grilled out in the public air; "But our first stop is the medical bay...-I need to know you're alright and if they clear you for training then that will be something, at least" he grumbled, leading her away from the Silver Landing.

"I'm fiiiiiiiiiiiiine," she whined right on back. Still, he was allowed to lead her to the Halls of Healing. She moved without much discomfort, a bit of pep entering her step as the encounter proved to be... well, let's face it, much more positive than all before. "I did it you know," she told him, draaaaagging reluctantly with him.

"Saved em. All by myself. Well. Almost by myself," she grumbled, looking downwards. "...But I coulda done it!" She rocked up on her toes, weaving through the halls with him. Her fingers brushed her bruised neck unconsciously, the girl chewing on her lip as they paused at the check in desk.

"I'm pretty sure that should count as my training for the day. You know. Field experience and all."

"You'll be lucky to escape the day without running laps of the Silver Rest" Caedyn retorted, shaking his head to himself as he stood at the check-in desk filling out the paperwork for the assistant droid. Provided she was cleared for duty, Caedyn hoped that they'd not be there long.

Kyra Perl Kyra Perl had done a good thing in achieving her objective, yet had gone about it all the wrong way. "Try to look at this from my perspective" he turned to look to his Padawan, "You left on this venture alone, to a place where two of you barely survived. We've not trained the duration of a full day, and already you've taken off leaving your peers with no indication as to why. Were you in trouble, how would we respond or send aid?".

"I've don't doubt that you've likely done a good thing for these children, but at what expense to your own personal safety?" He questioned further, soon adding "And where are these children now. Have they been handed over to the authorities? What conditions did you leave them in when you returned? These are things that the Order learns through mission debriefings, under the proper protocol for field assignments".

"Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh," Kyra answered, stalling against the barrage of well placed questions. She squirmed, her head spinning at the headache of everything he had suggested. Debriefings? Force, no. That's why you take off without telling them! She looked left.

She looked right.

She found no easy out to the corner he talked her into. She crossed her arms and jutted her hips. "It's a jedi's job to sacrifice for the better good. If the Force wanted me dead, I would be. Who are we to say otherwise, we should just trust that," she spouted, matter of fact. None of that was what she actually believed in, but she wasn't beneath using other Master's words out of context and spinning them in her favor.

Tension hung in the air at her words. The droid intercepted, requesting they follow. Kyra dropped her pose and walked after it, giving Caedyn no time to properly respond.

Caedyn followed, yet ignored the droid and making no move to give Kyra her space as they were escorted in. It was a Master's prerogative, in this case. "Sacrifice in the form of taking on stress and burden is all well and good but if you go out and get yourself killed, the amount of good you could have done in your future is taken away from the Galaxy. A Jedi Knight can go out to affect the lives of thousands through their actions, but if they get themselves killed, that also means thousands who suffer from someone's irrational decisions" Caedyn countered Kyra Perl Kyra Perl without hesitation, the words coming easily as though it were common knowledge.

"It's true that the Jedi take risks and fight for others who cannot do so themselves. Yes we act for the greater good of the Galaxy, but we don't go risking our lives like they mean nothing. You're a person as well and like it or not you mean something to others. Students train in order to lessen the chances of being killed or injured, and you've still got a long way to go yet" Caedyn knew she hated his lectures but she'd certainly earned it, and trying to talk down to him as though she knew better...-She wasn't at that stage in her training quite yet. Maybe one day, but not when she was skirting around protocol and risking her neck without proper precautions in place to support her.

Her light mood seemed to slowly grow dimmer, a grumpy cant to posture as she was led into a private room. She paused at the door, giving him a hard look as he followed her. It didn't shake him, a fact she crumbled too more easily than he might expect. Sometimes it was just about the ability to dig her heels in. He would quickly start to experience how often he'd get resistance purely for control in it.

"Well I didn't die, so what's it maaaaaaaaaatter..." she whined, sitting on the table and letting the droid get at her vitals. A stitch or two-- a busted open knee cap, minorly crushed larynx, and bruises. All in all, she came out of it lucky compared to Acaadi last time. He had been broken to bits-- a bacta tank for days.

"I said I'm sorry, okaaaay? Can we just let it go..."

When the medical droid and one of the medical personnel arrived to tend to Kyra Perl Kyra Perl 's wounds, Caedyn resigned himself to listening and observing their work, seeming to keep a close eye on what was being discovered in his Padawan's condition and subsequently treated. His eyes watched intently as they worked, almost as though he didn't trust them enough to be tending to Kyra's wounds. If the Girl were perceptive enough, she'd realize that the Jedi Knight was actually behaving in a rather protective manner over her, including the way in which he was coming down on her for her recent endeavor.

Stitches, a busted open knee cap, minorly crushed larynx, and bruises. It was almost as though they were blows being dealt to his own resilience and frustration as the pair informed Caedyn of her injuries during the treatment. Kyra also seemed to be standing down from her defensive stance, though more just wanting to be done with the ordeal now from the sounds of it. Something Caedyn could actually relate to.

"It matters a great deal to me, Kyra" Caedyn responded bluntly, though his voice softened a little as he concluded; "Please don't do this again...".

Kyra flopped over, arms outstretched as she stared dramatically at the ceiling. "Fine," she relented, a bit of attitude to the melodramatic lump she had dissolved into. The... single minded focus he had on her was weird. Like. Nida did that with her. She didn't know how she felt about her pseudo arch enemy giving off vibes like her sister, but she laid there and took it nonetheless.

She had not forgotten what was on the line here, despite her recent rash actions suggesting otherwise.

If he wanted more of an apology or sense of severity for the situation, he didn't get it from her. Her thoughts flickered and jumped from one thing to the next, not giving his point the proper consideration it deserved. Would he have to deal with something like this again? It was entirely possible. The girl was a loose cannon, and gave no indication that that would otherwise be changing.

Despite the fact she bent to his will this time.

She remained on her back, staring at the ceiling even as the droid finished its work and started picking up. For the first time in weeks, she felt light. Like her chest wasn't heavy-- like-- like she skip again and it'd actually be fun. One thought kept creeping up, a dark cloud in the back of her mind. She chewed on her lip and turned her head to Caedyn, concern clouding her eyes.

"...You're not gonna tell on me again, are you?"

"In the case that someone did wish to tell on you, Kyra, they'd come to me. I'm your Mentor now, the responsibility is mine" He reiterated what he'd already told Kyra Perl Kyra Perl two weeks back before she'd gone rogue for a week or more; "I'm the one that decides the severity of consequences. Not the Assembly, their job is to come down on me if I appear to be failing in my responsibilities".

Unless it came to the point of him being forced to step away from their apprenticeship, he'd had no plans of informing the Assembly of anything, given that it was his role to ensure that she learned from her mistakes and didn't repeat them, endangering herself or others where it could be avoided.

"I'm the one you ought to be worried about disappointing..." he added, pausing for a moment in tired thought; "But no, this is between us" he added reluctantly.

"Provided it doesn't happen again".

Breath fell easier from Kyra's lips. She turned her head, giving him a cheeky smile at his reluctant admittance. He was growing soft to her. Her pheromones touched the air ever so slightly, the girl unconsciously trying to promote this further. It did her no good having a grumpy master. Which was exactly what he was, he didn't think she was stupid enough not to see his pretty wordings, did he?

"Thanks, Mentor," She chirped, swinging herself up and off the table.

"So uh-- Am I good to go then? I got like, class and stuff." And stuff being the operative word. The girl yearned for hot shower and a full stomach. Sleep felt like it would come easier to her now. And her sheets- force-- the silk...

She was very eager to have it sliding across her skin. There was really no better way to feel at home. Her eyes were already on the door, her attention far away.

"Mentor is the term. Master is the title by which you call myself, and others of a superior rank within the Order" Caedyn reminded Kyra Perl Kyra Perl . "And no we're not done here" he responded bluntly.

Kyra's use of her Empathic and Zeltron traits were not beyond Caedyn's notice. He'd learned early on that around the Girl, he needed to keep a close eye on how the air of their mutual environment could change in league with her emotions and ambitions. The first class lesson had taught the Jedi Knight this much, and her previous attempt to manipulate him had assured that he would maintain a guarded emotional front when meeting with her.

"You do in fact have scheduled classes that you are required to attend, and I also want you to spend more time socializing with your peers. I'm concerned about how isolated you had been before I left for Svivren. From today on, you're only to be in your dorm when required to sleep at night. From the first of your lessons until evening meals, you're to be out within the Temple finding ways to keep yourself busy and interacting with your friends. You could quite frankly use a positive influence...".

Caedyn paused a moment in thought, before asking curiously, "Have you seen Acaadi since your last field assignment with him? It would be beneficial for the both of you to debrief. Spend some time to share your feelings on the experience and how life as a Jedi might feel now, following the ordeal".

"No," came Kyra's hard answer, her voice unexpectedly sharp as it rang through the air. Her vision fell on him then, fire in her eyes as she rejected his proposal.

"I dont wanna see him. And I don't wanna hang with em. Now-" she allotted, interjecting before he could force the issue in a direction she didn't want. "I'll do evvvvvvvvvverything else. I'll run 10 laps around the damn place right now if you really want, I don't care. But you can't tell me who to talk to." Her assertion was said with no space left to protest, the girl very firm as she crossed her arms around her front. The pheromones increased, intentional this time. Kyra had no method to influence someone into being compliant, but relaxed and willing... well, it was a close enough version of what she wanted from him here.

"Before I remind you why you're in no position to be refusing me, let me first tell you why you're making a grave mistake trying to manipulate my senses" Caedyn's voice grew cold, his gaze upon Kyra Perl Kyra Perl becoming stern.

"I'm well trained in the art of telepathy, I could likely break your mental guard and convince you that you're a Wookiee..." He pointed out, clearly leading to further clarify his point; "But something like this would be incredibly disrespectful and a means of attacking your privacy and free will. Much in the same way as what you're attempting to do to me now".

Kyra wasn't used to not getting her own way, that much was clear to Caedyn, however challenging his authority as a Jedi Knight was not something that he would take lightly. She was forcing his hand where instead there needed to be a certain level of respect given to her superior ranking members of the Order. She was determined to make things difficult for herself.

"You could very easily have asked me why I made the suggestion, sought my explanation. There's always a reason behind the things I'm telling you, and it's not just to torture you despite what you might think" Caedyn concluded, crossing his arms over his chest as he looked back at Kyra expectantly. He could be the nice, friendly and compassionate Master that she wanted him to be, providing that she earned it. Challenging the chain of command and hierarchy between them however wasn't going to make life any easier and it was up to the Padawan how much she wished to struggle in her time with the Order.

"Suggestions and discussions aside, if I give you instruction I expect you to follow it to the letter" he added with a sense of finality in his tone. There would be no getting around him.
