- Squadron Mask - Disables Starfighter's Transponder via Dedicated Jamming Module; Ineffective at Range.
- Conventional Sensors are Not Effected and the Starfighter / Squadron can still be Targeted.
- Requires a "Cooldown" After Each Use.
- SLAM System; Reroutes Power from Weapons to Engines - Temporarily Disables Armament.
- Assault Shield - Double Front; When Utilized, Port, Starboard and Aft Shielding is Weaker than the Bow / Fore Vector.
- Sensor Inverter; Works best with Conventional Warheads; Higher Chance of Failure in more Advanced Warheads.
- Low Armament - Heavily Reliant on Speed and Mobility to "Win the Day."
Like it’s spiritual ancestor, the REC-AI01 A-wing Interceptor was designed to operate as a swift and nimble strike fighter for the reconstituted Galactic Alliance, and her Defence Force. While the exterior was visually similar to the venerable design of the RZ-2 A-wing of the New Republic, the Interior circuitry and systems found themselves overhauled and upgraded to meet the exacting standards of the modern era. The most notable difference when it came to exterior aesthetics was that the AI01 Interceptor eschewed the smaller, but chunky attack profiles of the RZ-1 A-wing and it’s predecessor - the R-22 Spearhead. The Republic Engineering design team chose to reinvigorate the RZ-2 design because of its inclusion, and standardization of the field modifications made to the vessel by the Rebel Alliance during their years of struggle against the Galactic Empire.
This meant that the AI01 Interceptor had a much slimmer profile than a majority of it’s the Strike Fighter’s spiritual predecessors, allowing for a much more narrow attack profile when engaging, or when engaged by, hostile starfighters.
Adding onto the AI01 Interceptor’s slim and narrow design, the weapon mounts of the A-wing were very similar to their predecessor’s modified composition. The Heavy Laser Cannons were fitted to a specialized gimbal mounting that was capable of vertically swiveling 360’ Degrees to engage targets from multiple angles. These specialized mounts also held the capability of a 60’ degree horizontal elevation - which altered the Starfighter’s point of convergence and allowed for the Pilot to alter their engagement patterns, without drastically altering their approach vectors. In addition, the gimbal mounts were not only capable of being fire-linked, a process that would have both cannons firing in tandem at a singular target, but they were capable of being independently directed as well.
However, such a process of independently directing the gimbal-mounted laser cannons whilst piloting the swift and nimble interceptor when embraced in the throes of combat proved to be too much for even the most skilled of pilots. To ensure that their reproduced functionality wasn’t wasted due to the limitations of an Organic’s attention span, Republic Engineering integrated a Droid Brain into the Starfighter’s chassis. Such an inclusion wasn’t meant to replace the possibility of an Astromech Droid, but rather supplement the Pilot with a heavy degree of automation. This would allow the Pilot to better focus on handling the temperamental nature of such an ultra-fast Starfighter, whilst the Droid Brain was capable of directing the Starship’s weapons towards their intended targets. It was, in many respects, like having a permanent Co-Pilot - who’d ideally complement the skills of the Solitary figure ensconced within the Cockpit.
Thus, the REC-AI01 A-wing Interceptor would - like many of the Corporation’s Starfighters - become a perfect addition to the ever-growing arsenal of the Galactic Alliance, and her burgeoning Defence Force.
