Galactic time difference was one
haran of a thing. There she was, nursing her morning mug of spiced caf, a mug she didn't even have to brew herself, when her armor's comm unit went off. She glanced over from the small table in the common area that the members of Davaab squad were sitting at. The sound had echoed through the hallway, ensuring that if any of them weren't already awake, they surely were now. She had turned the notification volume all the way up to cut through the morning fog, especially since they were off rotation.
"That's yours," unnecessarily grumpily slurred Ran. She knew it was hers, they all knew it was hers. The half accusation hung in the air as eyes turned to her.
"I know, I know," she groaned as she stood to her feet.
"I'll go check," she promised as she walked off back to her quarters where her armor was stored. She brought the
Holographic Interface Datapad back to life with a tap. Suddenly she snapped awake, there were numerous messages from
Braze
detailing that he needed her help and that he would feel a lot safer with her around. Images of the time she let the
Jetii take him away flashed through her mind. Sure, it had all worked out, and ideally, that shabuire (
Okuma Milogen
) was still on Veridia, but who was to say things would remain the same.
Saram thanked military discipline for ensuring that sans her armor she was all but ready to leave. Putting on her armor at this point was so routine she barely even registered having done so. She grabbed the rest of her equipment out of her quarters, smiling to herself as she was reminded of her last rifle's fate. That
ad'ika certainly made her life more interesting, that much was for sure.
"Ah, there, she's out again," remarked Anila as she passed.
"Don't have too much fun without us, alor." Saram's only response was a rude gesture. Anila laughed.
"Alor." called Ran, prompting her to pause.
"Be careful."
Saram turned to face them, shrugging,
"When am I not, Ran?" she asked, with a laugh. Ran just shook his head at her casual confidence, though he was likely long used to it at this point. Saram followed the station's hallways to the hangar without difficulty.
It wasn't too long before she managed to find Rav and convince her to take her to New Cov. It didn't take long before Rav had recovered from the suddenness of it all and decided to call her on it over the intercom,
"You realize the only time I'm off rotation is when you're off rotation, right?"
"'Lek," came her response over the comms. She had a good idea of where Rav was going with this line of questioning, but it was too shabla late to worry about the repercussions of her actions now.
"Just checking that you knew what you were doing before you shattered my peace and calm," replied Rav, understandably less than pleased.
"You know who's not off rotation?" she asked, almost unnecessarily.
"Ruus?" Saram asked rhetorically, now having a good feeling that she was almost sure about where Rav was going with all of this.
"Abso-shabla-lutely, good shabla thing the ad'ika are old enough otherwise I'd have to call my buire, or Ruus would have to call his. You know the only reason I haven't told you to usen'ye is because you're aliit, right?"
"'Lek?" she answered hesitantly and more than a little sheepishly.
"Good, I would hate for your buir to think all those flying lessons were a shabla waste," continued Rav. In fact, Rav continued for a while in fact, justifiably. Long after take off, and right up until about they had made the jump. Saram had long learned to let Rav finish before she even
dared to apologize. This time was no exception. It wasn't till they were over the skies of New Cov,
"So once I drop you off, I'll stay on station for an hour, and if I don't lose your bio signs, I'll head back," she announced.
"Suvar," she responded.
"And Rav?" sbe asked, waiting for Rav to turn to face the cockpit door. "Vor entye."
"I'd wish you jate'kara but you have plenty of tebec," replied Rav.
"Don't take what I said too hard."
"Naas," replied Saram as the cabin lights changed color and the cabin doors opened to reveal the skies of New Cov. Saram leapt out, slowed by wings of invisible fire as she fell before landing in front of the temple. She didn't a quick check of the area to see if any of New Cov's delightful fauna and flora and decided to join them. She sent a quick message to
Braze
'On location, SITREP?'.
