So, my idea is to have a character I am creating be a part of a planetary military, specifically Trandosha. I am wondering how far I am allowed to go for their naval forces, and was wondering if there were any reccomended vessels? I know a Carrack or two is something I have in mind for grabbing but beyond that I am not sure.

planets would count as Minor Factions, so the max size would be the same as the chart.
Theoretrically, a planet could build any size ship outside of a dreadnaught or SSD, as those are locked behind major faction rules.
I'd start with a small fleet if you wanted to build stuff. Given Trandosha is under Black Sun territory atm, I'd suggest looking into what ships they have available to the faction for use. It'd be in their manifest.

As the others have mentioned, please keep the Factory Rules, as well as the "What Can Be Produced/Fielded" Charts in mind that others have posted. I would also draw your attention to:
Major Factions Rules
If you're just starting, I would actually recommend finding a few Canon Ships unless you'd like to directly tie your idea to another Major Faction. If that faction goes minor or changes location for whatever reason, those ships that were once available to you may no longer be. You're free to use any Canon Ship as long as it meets the requirements of the "What Can Be Fielded" charts and is not classified as a superweapon. Only a Major Faction has the necessary resources to have a "large" fleet, though, so you'd want to be reasonable in your selections. You are 100% welcome to try your hand at creating your own Starships for your fleet...But Canon Models require no submission unless significant technological changes have been made.
