Jax could sense Kayla's discomfort at the fact that he effortlessly used the force to organize the heavy machinery. It was reinforced by the shock etched on her face and the fact that she backed up a little. <You certainly have a way with women!> BB-12 beeped bemused at Kayla's reaction. Jax sighed as he placed the last of the machinery down using the force. He kept forgetting that not all people were accustomed to seeing force users performing supernatural feet. Years of the Jedi rising, getting massacred, and then reforming again still hasn't normalized the use of force abilities. In missions, Jax could sometimes see the flabbergasted looks of people whenever he whipped out his Lightsaber as though they've seen someone rise from the dead.
"Why don't you analyze that information," Jax grumbled. "And stop making snide remarks."
BB-12 rolled around Jax's feet producing noise from his processing unit that sounded like snickering. <I can't help it> he said. <It's in my programming to be give you feedback.>
"Not on my personal life," he sighed looking over the now shut down Podracing computer. "Not exactly," He said to Kayla watching her droid looking over the parts. "It's a program that BB-12 and I have created, it was supposed to monitor the Podracer's condition, calculate the speed and temperature while also pointing out the systems that need repairing. That way when I go to the pit for repairs, It'll save a crew a lot of headaches while they scramble around trying to look for the source of the problem when the computer's feedback can point them to the specific location."
The Jedi sighed. "In my arrogance," he said giving a dirty look at BB-12 who was to look over the coding. "Or BB-12's incompetence, I didn't establish a better anti virus software than I thought leaving the computer vulnerable to the simplest DDOS attack. It didn't occur to me do something like that until the last race and that nearly cost me my life."
<And the race.> BB-12 said. <That was a lot of credits on the line.>
"Oh yes because my life isn't important," Jax rolled his eyes. "It's through my hard work is the reason why your behind can laze around eating nachos and watching late night Holonet dramas."
He nodded at Kayla's suggestion, it wasn't fullproof but it'll be really difficult for hackers to pull of the same stunt again. "Sounds good," he said assisting her and her droid in organizing the parts. After hours of laborious work, the sun was setting and Jax wiped the sweat from his brow, his robes caked with dirt from the new parts. BB-12 was still analyzing the data, Jax looked over his robes again shaking his head. He's going to have to put this through the wash and to think he had these robes clean today.
It was then Jax eyebrows rose up in shock when Kayla asked him about dinner. Now his heart was racing and he felt himself backing away from her a little. "S-sure," he stammered. "Where do you want to go?!"
<Pizza House!> BB-12 shouted.
"Quiet!" Jax said.

Kayla looked to the astromech. "Well... it looks like someone's kind of a mind reader," she said giving BB-12 a small smile. In truth, she'd been wanting some for a while. Sure, it was fairly common fair on ships like the Liberator. And the Navy cooks aboard made some pretty great stuff. Food on a vessel like that had to be top-notch. It was a big morale booster. But out in the regular, civilian world, there were always some pretty great options. Even if she might blow her fitness routine to smithereens. She didn't care. Besides, they were putting in a lot of hard work and long hours. The calorie count wouldn't be that devastating.

"Though in truth, I'm more in favor of having it delivered. Otherwise, its going to take the better part of two hours. And we probably should keep working. Unless Vido and BB are up for keeping at it," she said, glancing toward each of the droids. Vido, she knew, wouldn't give her any attitude about staying behind. But BB-12 had a mouth and was temperamental. At the same time, she was ready for a break and wishing she had an actual maintenance team present. Or some solid, modern, non-goofy pit droids that could help out and make this go faster. But even then, based on what she found out about the last race and Jax's troubles, he probably wouldn't be up for extra help, for good reason.

BB-12's systems began whir together signaling a laugh. <HA! What a smooth operator!> he said. Normally Jax would force kick BB-12 across the room but he felt too embarrassed when he heard Kayla said that she meant to have the food delivered to her. Of all the places to meet with a pretty girl, it had to be over a severely damaged Podracer in which it required both of their attention. The Jedi closed his eyes, this was an opportunity of a lifetime to tell her how he really felt about her.
"Be cognizant of the Living Force," he thought. "Whatever happens, happens the moment is what matters not whether or not she rejects me."
"Listen Kayla," Jax said calling upon the force to send calming energies around him. "I need to stop acting like someone I'm not I'm no smooth operator, I'm just a Jedi masquerading as one and failing miserably."
BB-12 briefly stopped analyzing the data eagerly listening to what Jax had to say. <This is gonna be good!> he beeped.
Jax ignored his driod. Here's the truth," he said. "I think you're a beautiful woman and not just a beautiful woman but an intelligent one at that. You also showed me a kindness something that not many women showed me. I want to ask you out to dinner you know like a date? But not just one time, multiple times as well. I want to get you know better in circumstances that doesn't involve professional matters. The driods can work on the Podracers they tend to be more efficient at it."
<What the frack?!> BB-12 sounded his alarms at Jax. <I wanna eat at the Pizza House!>
Jax chuckled. "You won't you idiot," he said. "You're going to work with Vido and repair this Podracer while we're gone! Look at Kayla! The poor girl is tired and wants be treated with a nice dinner! The least you can do is to lessen her work load!"
He stared at Kayla. "In the meantime," he said. "All expenses at the Pizza House will be paid for by me. You can eat as much as you want."
<This is fracking bullshit!> BB-12 yelled.
"It's what's fair," Jax said with a smug look on his face. "Do you want me to delete the episodes of my Cousin Jack? Or better yet I should spill the beans in what happened to Dr. Shelly at Soap Opera: General Medicines."
<All right!> BB-12 moaned spinning around. <I'll fracking do it with Vido.>
"Not that way."
<You know what I mean!> BB-12 said. <Just give me some Pizza when you come back and make sure it's hot.>
"Of course," Jax said as he stared at Kayla. "So what do you say?" he asked.

Kayla fastidiously cleaned her hands a little more, then the hydrospanner next to her. As Jax made his confession she listened, tilting her head a little. Sarcasm was almost a refined artform for most Corellians. But here it wasn't a good idea. The last thing Jax needed was someone he kind of liked kicking him in a moment of vulnerability. Pushing off the crate she sat on, she stood in front of him. "Now that... I believe," she said with a small smile. "I've grown up around too many people with fake smiles or putting on a front. People that smile to your face with blaster behind their back." She patted his chest once more. "Not that I think you'd do that, but I would rather meet the real Jax Thio than an image. And yes, you can take me out. Though I'll need an hour or so to get cleaned up."

"As for more, we'll see. I'd like to get to know you better too, I think. The real you," she said. "I don't much care about influence or whatnot. I've got pull when I need it." She gave him a small smile, then fished out her datalink and pulled up her information on it, and with a swipe up and a flick toward Jax it transferred to him. Including where she was staying for now. "I need to go get cleaned up and stuff before. I don't think you want me all greasy, sweaty, and smelly." And with that, she moved to slip past Jax and head for deeper parts of the spaceport and the city proper.

Jax could tell that Kayla wanted to say snarky remark, he wasn't surprised considering that Corellians had a tendency to snark at almost anything when they got a chance. Still the Jedi was shocked when Kayla mentioned that she wanted to meet the real Jax Thio. "T-the real Jax Thio?" he stammered trying to maintain a smile. "I don't think you really want to dig that deep."
It was hard enough to admit to Kayla that what he was putting was a front, it would be near impossible to confess why he did it. Jax wanted to shield himself from the pain of being an utter failure to his master, receiving a title that he did not deserve and living the next 12 years of his life in a drunken stupor. Did Kayla really want to find who Jax really was? Would she be repulsed at what she'll see? Already Jax was wondering was it a mistake telling Kayla about him hiding behind facades.
"Living Force," He thought. "Trust in the Living fracking Force."
But how can he trust in it, if he only used the tenets of the Living Force to run from his mistakes and not dwell on what he almost did after Master Oda died?
"Yeah I want to wade through the snark and see who Kayla Luspark really is," Jax said trying push away the harrowing thoughts that was invading his head. "Something tells me that I'll like what I see."
He smiled when Kayla placed her hand on his chest, it was amazing to see for a Pilot and an engineer Kayla's hands were soft and clean. There was a woman hidden beneath the muck and grime. Reading over the datalink, Jax nodded. "Sounds good," he replied looking at a disappointed BB-12. "Cheer up BB-12," he said. "You'll spend hours getting to know Vido."
<Frack off Bantha face> BB-12 beeped furiously.
"I'll be getting dressed as well," Jax said stretching. "I'll pick you up tonight."

Kayla shrugged one shoulder as he mentioned that she probably didn't want to go that deep, then wanting to dig past her snark and such. She smirked then. "We'll see," she said lightly poking him in the sternum with a half laugh as she backed toward the doorway. "Anyway, I'll be ready in a little bit. And looking forward to it." With that she was gone, slipping out and into the starport.

Long, rangy strides took her into the crowds of people coming and going. She pulled a cap low over her head and combined with her coveralls she blended in as personnel. People generally ignored her, practically invisible, leaving them unaware of the walking credit sign moving about.

Coming up to the hotel, she made her way across the platform after stepping out of the aircar. Approaching the entrance the security and greeter droid moved to intercept her. Reaching up she pulled her cap off and pulled her hair back out of her face. Recognizing her not only as a hotel guest but a VIP it backpedaled into place stammering an apology for trying to stop her. Ignoring it, she made her way inside and headed for the lifts.

Moments later she slipped inside her room and cycled the lock. Moving deeper, she checked every corner and found it suitably without intruders. Quickly she stripped down and made her way to the refresher and slipped into the shower. On some worlds, a water shower was a luxury beyond reason. This lead to the creation of sonic showers. On others, water was so dirt cheap it was the resource to use if a sentient wished to cleanse themselves. Here, the system used a mixture of both. The sonic emitters vibrated the particulates loose as well as serving to loosen muscles and work away tension. The water carried away the loosened dirt and grime away easily, and the heat combined with the imperceptible sonic vibrations to practically melt tension and stress away.

She took a little longer to soak up the heat and let the aches and pains fade. Eventually, she turned the water off, then let the water on her skin vibrate into mist and evaporate off of her within a few seconds. Wrapping a towel around her frame, she stepped out. Her hair was mostly dry already, so she spent a few moments getting that in some semblance of order, then trailed over to the wardrobe. Traveling in her X-wing meant she had to travel light, or purchase what she needed wherever she was. But there were some things she always kept on hand. Slipping into her favorite little black dress, she went back to the mirror and went to add some cosmetics. Done with that, she went to fussing with her hair, working a brush through it and a little bit of product until she had a high sheen and soft waves that spilled down her back and front. She added a few bracelets, a couple rings, a set of stud earrings, and then some strappy shoes. Adding a little bit of soft, floral perfume, she gave herself a once-over in the mirror again. Grabbing her clutch and a light shawl in case it got cold, she was ready to go.

Checking her chrono, she made her way out, and headed for the lifts and then the lobby where she could wait on Jax.

Jax made sure to apply the last of his cologne on to his chest before buttoning his white shirt. He took a good look at himself through the mirror, there were multiple times that he had to dress like a normal citizen and most of it were for when he was undercover. It was only on those rare occasions that Jax had time to dress casually and he often used it to get drunk. The bathroom was the only place that was clean in the pigsty of an apartment. Jax was a relatively clean person thanks to his Jedi training one of the few things that stuck with him when he was a kid was to always to keep cleanliness in mind, a clean room means a clean mind though Jax was becoming an exception to the rule. The mess was made by none other than BB-12.
Every square inch except the bathroom was covered in Pizza boxes, Taco wrappers, unused candy and expired beverages. Every time Jax would clean up the apartment, one hour later it was reverted back to the same old pile of mess because BB-12 spent a Jax's credits ordering 66 large Pepperoni Pizzas. Jax gave up as a result preferring to get drunk rather than endure watching BB-12 rolling over the Pizza and gorging himself on it. His mind was on Kayla and how he would impress her. Taking the black jacket that was hung inside closet, Jax placed it on rolling his neck in an attempt to relax himself. It was just one date, who knows if this would evolve into something different.
A feeling was swelling inside of Jax, something he hadn't felt in a while. For the first time he felt: Happy. Genuine happiness no matter what will happen Jax felt better for just breaking through his Durasteel like shell and admitting to somebody his true feelings. It was hard for Jax to emote ever sense the death of Master Oda. The only thing that gave him comfort was alcohol but yet like the Dark Side, it only dragged Jax further into decay. The Jedi grabbed his Lightsaber and headed out of his apartment complex. He bought the apartment 10 years ago mainly so he can keep a closer eye on lower levels of Coruscant. The landlord was sleeping at the time giving him an opening to leave without being pestered for rent since BB-12 kept draining Jax's finances with bullshit items, Jax had difficulty paying the rent.
Turning on his old Soro Suub Landspeeder, Jax headed immediately towards Kayla's location where as soon as he landed, Jax opened the door. "Hey Kayla!" Jax said not paying attention to her looks. "Sorry if I'm late and OH SHIT!"
The moment Jax laid eyes on Kayla, his heart stopped and he felt like he wanted to melt. Kayla looked absolutely incredible with a short black dress, multiple bracelets and some perfume she was beautiful in every way. "I am not fracking worthy to escort a Goddess like you." Jax said exiting his speeder and bowing to her. "Especially to a Pizza Place but It is my honor to take you on this lovely date tonight."

The fighter pilot couldn’t help the blush that washed over her features, just for a moment. “You don’t think this is too much? I mean it’s just pizza, but I feel like I’m maybe a little overdoing it,” she said, starting out a little uncertain then breaking into speed talking as she fussed at her dress and accessories. “I can go back up and change real quick,” Kayla offered, gesturing back toward the hotel proper.

“No, no,” Jax protested. “You look amazing. Get in.”

You’re sure,” she said, uncertainty hovering in her eyes. His slightly stern look cut through the uncertainty. Her shoulders dropped, relaxing visibly, and she slipped into the passenger seat, mindful of her dress, and tucked her clutch into her lap.

Taking a moment she took a visual tour of the speeder’s interior, noting the readouts, control scheme, craftsmanship. She hadn’t really looked at the external design or markings, but the interior could tell her a lot. After all, her family made these too. Her hands practically itched to take the thing to the sky and see what it could do, but for now, she would have to content herself with being a passenger.

You look good too, you know,” she murmured. “I’m still not sure I got all the grease and stuff off.

Jax smirked when Kayla commented on his clothing he wasn't into fashion preferring to wear his Jedi robes but there are times that Jax wanted to blend in with civilians mainly to understand their lives and their struggles. "Thanks Kayla," Jax said his cheeks tinted with a light red. "This actually the first time I've dated anyone." Well not counting the Sith Lords he was with years ago. They were something of an old shame that Jax preferred to keep quiet. Even BB-12 was rather disturbed with the whole ordeal.
"I mean even covered in grease you'll always look wonderful," Jax said watching Kayla examine the car's controls. "I'm sure you'll make a burlap sack look nice," The Jedi gulped as he began to drive his Soro Subspeeder towards the Pizza place. It was only a thirty minute drive but given that he was with Kayla, it'll feel like an eternity.
"So Kayla," he coughed trying to start a conversation It was always hard to be the first person to speak. You never know if you were going to say something stupid. "You want to see my Podrace in a few weeks?"

She raised an eyebrow at his question. "You're talking about another one right?" Glancing over at him she tilted her head. They had less than a week to get his machine in shape, as there was a race he was pushing hard for. That was the whole reason for this little arrangement. "And I assume you mean as a spectator rather than as pit crew?" That was the plan for the upcoming race. Between BB-12, Vido, and her, if anything came up, they could likely deal with it quickly. Especially since a good chunk of the parts were coming from Spark Industries.

Great..... now he forgotten the fact that he offered Kayla a spot on his pit crew just today. "I'm such an idiot," he thought bitterly his hands gripping tightly on to the steering wheel. This is why people tend to not start conversations, they're often afraid of saying the wrong thing and in Jax's case he came across as an dementia ridden old man wondering where he was.
"Frack me I did offer you that!" Jax grumbled shaking his head. "I'm a fracking moron for asking you the same question Kayla!" Jax sighed. "Shit starting the conversation tends to be nervewracking. More nervewracking than I expected now that I'm in an actual date."
