A Chat in Corellia With the Omega Pyre

500px-CA_Corellia01_800x450.jpg

Coronet City, Corellia.

Corellia was a beautiful planet. Its lush green hils, forests, and large oceans were quite a sight out in space. This planet inhabited by billions was currently one of Omega Pyre's closest planets to the border with the Galactic Republic. Which was exactly why the Galactic Republic and the Omega Pyre decided to hold a diplomatic meeting there. Senator Brunswick had come from Coruscant to discuss and negotiate with the mercenary faction, and would be there as a diplomatic ambassador on behalf of the Republic. The Kuati senator took sips from his vine coffee as he watched his shuttle make its descent into Corellia and to the planet's capital, Coronet City.

Twenty Minutes Later...
There was a sound of whining machinery as the landing ramp was slowly lowered to make contact with Coronet City's docking bay. Brunswick squinted as he made his way down the ramp, closely followed by two Republic Senate commandos in their blue uniform. He greeted the Omega Pyre security, which led him to a speeder that had already been prepared. As soon as the senator and his guards were aboard, the speeder took off at once. The speeder flew across on the high priority lane, zipping past the congested civilian lanes. Brunswick smiled to himself as he saw how similar Coronet City was to Coruscant.

Within a few minutes of traveling on the speeder, Brunswick and his guards were dropped off infront of the building in which the meeting would be taking place. The Senator of Kuat put on his best smile as he got off the speeder and headed towards the lobby of the building. He was ready to make a deal or two with the Omega Pyre.

Waiting inside was Exarch Tegaea Alcori. She was alone, though there were other Protectorate personnel nearby. The Senator was escorted in and his guards asked to remain outside. It would be just the two of them, one on one.

Tegaea smiled and shook @[member="Darren Brunswick"]'s hand. "Welcome to Corellia, Senator. Now, I understand you wish to contract some assistance from us. Can you please elaborate more on the target, destination, size of commitment and above all, expected remuneration."

(I'm not expecting a set figure. We'll just handwave the exact amount unless you really want to go into numbers.)

Zero was one of the few who were nearby even though he was an Assassin he was a very good guard and if something were to go wrong he would be a person to have on your side. His weapons were clearly displayed so the Republic guards could see that he had no tricks up his sleeves. When he actualy did have a hidden blade in his right arm. It was used to pierce armor at the neck or other cricks in the person system such as knees, Pits, groin, and elbows. He was to wait outside with the other guards while Tegaea would talk to a Senator of the Republic.

Zero looked at the armed guards coming his way as well as the Senator. The guards would have to stay outside with him as the two talked. A smile went across his lips as he thought about toying with the Republic soldiers.

Brunswick gave a warm smile as he shook hands with Omega Pyre's Exarch Tegaea Alcori.
"Welcome to Corellia, Senator. Now, I understand you wish to contract some assistance from us. Can you please elaborate more on the target, destination, size of commitment and above all, expected remuneration." The Kuati senator nodded before speaking.

"Let me inform you first, madam, of more on the the target, the destination, and just information overall on this mission the Republic requests your faction's assistance in. As I'm sure you know, the Roche Asteroids are the home of the insectoid Verpine, masters of high technology. Two political parties currently compete within the Roche hierarchy. One supports the Republic and has recently begun working on a new fighter for use by the Jedi Knights and the Republic navy. The other party supports the Sith. The Republic will already have advisers at the fighter production facility asteroid, and the Sith will have their own small troop garrison at s generator facility."
Brunswick then took out something from the back of his coat and handed it to the woman. It was a datapad, with information on the locations at Roche.

It read as the following:
Location Descriptions:
Roche G99 (Fighter Production Asteroid): An industrial base in the process of creating a new starfighter for the Republic. Production has only just begun, and none of the new starfighters are ready to fly. The Republic has sent a group of advisors to help aid the project. These stout military men have set up defenses within the asteroid ready to spirit away plans and prototypes should need arise. The vessels however need more time before they can be transported away to safety and will require protection as hostilities increase. The asteroid itself is protected by turbolasers, pop up blasters, and mined passages. It is surrounded by a dense cloud of smaller asteroids, preventing capital ships from getting close. This is a possible starting point for Republic characters not wishing to start with the fleet. Only the inhabited and industrial areas of this asteroid have artificial gravity and atmosphere, forcing any invading force to either assault the frontal bay with it’s turbolasers and automated defenses, or slog through old mine shafts in near weightless conditions. The fighter and designs represent a huge leap forward in post plague fighter technologies.
Roche Hive Research Station (Generator Asteroid): A science base where a new generator has been developed. The research station has been heavily reinforced by the Sith Empire, and Sith scientists work closely with Verpine inventors to explore the generator’s limits. Turbolasers, quad lasers, spacetroopers and an energy shield protect the asteroid facility, and the Sith field hospital is here. The asteroid is relatively small, but it has limited docking facilities for starfighters or personal transports. It is surrounded by a dense cloud of smaller asteroids, preventing capital ships from getting close.

Nickel One (Capital Asteroid): Nickel One is the Capital of the Roche Asteroids and the adopted home of the Verpine. Currently the asteroid possesses artificial gravity, and contains an arboretum for political meetings with outsiders, a massive domed garden which takes up much of the asteroid’s northern surface. It is in this garden dome that the delegates discuss the future of the Verpine people and where the leaders of both the Republic- and Sith-aligned Verpine factions are in talks. Further this asteroid contains a teeming city with hundreds of thousands of verpine, and their primary munitions factories.

The Vault (Vault Asteroid): A secret data storage facility, loosely held by Sith-affiliated Verpine. Its secrecy has been breached by both sides. Its defenses include powerful firewalls, and jamming fields powerful enough to disable missiles and starships. It is located some distance from Nickel One, between the Generator Asteroid and the Fighter Production Asteroid. It is surrounded by a dense cloud of smaller asteroids, preventing capital ships from getting close.

"The contract is quite simple. You all just have to be there... and the Republic's commanders will be giving you orders that you have to follow. For this... we'll offer two millon credits... is this fair?"

@[member="Tegaea Alcori"]

A tiny voice whispered in the Exarch's earpiece.

Roche. Roche is everything. The Sith Empire just ran a blitzkrieg campaign on Velmor -- took it without firing a shot, though some Republic starfighters are missing in action. From Velmor, they can reach both Roche and Mandalore -- but they could have hit Roche from Aargonar, which they already own. The Sith are almost certainly gearing up to assault Mandalore as well as Roche.

If the Republic takes Roche, they have the option to strike at Velmor to make the Mandalorians feel loved, or go for Aargonar, on the offensive. If the Empire takes Roche, their next move won't be Hapes, it will be Mandalore. Velmor proves that, and it's a gamble. It gives the Republic time to fortify Hapes.

The Republic can stand to lose the battle at Roche, at the cost of the Mandalorians. But public relations are part of strategy when you rely on public goodwill as much as the Republic does. They can't afford to look like they're sacrificing Mandalore. Nor can they afford to treat their complex, fractious and newly assimilated Hapan territory as their chosen war zone to stop the Sith advance down the Perlemian. And so they need to step up and stop the Empire at Roche. They need this, Exarch. Politically. Maybe not militarily. If we hold back, they'll swallow their pride and work with the Mandalorians instead, and we have the opportunity to save the day later.

Tegaea nodded ever so slightly to @[member="Linna Beorht"]'s words. She looked at Darren.
"There are some things that need to be discussed. The officer who would be in charge of this force is a Colonel. Therefore, she will not be given orders by anyone less than General or Admiral rank." She knew @[member="Siobhan Kerrigan"] would be the first one to volunteer for this mission.
"Secondly, Senator, two million credits would not pay for the fuel needed to reach that sector, let alone the wages and other expenses. Twenty million as a hiring fee, plus five thousand per soldier, per day of the contract. We'll send out best battalion to assist you along with a strike cruiser. We can be ready and at a Republic planet of your choice with five day's notice."

"Other than that, I have no objections. The Sith have not attempted to engage us yet for this...nor will they try. So if you accept these terms, Omega Pyre's 1st Battalion is yours...for a while."

Brunswick nodded to the Omega Pyre Exarch.
"Our admirals and generals will strictly be the ones that will be giving orders." Senator half grimaced and half smiled as he heard that the two million credits would not even pay the fuel needed to get to Roche. He was lost in thought for a second as he listened to @[member=""][member=""][member=""][member=""][member=""][member=""][member=""][member=""][member=""][member=""][member=""][member=""][member=""][member=""][member=""][member=""][member=""]Tegaea Alcori speak about how they would decide upon the payment for their services. "Ofcourse not, madam. When I mentioned two million credits, I meant that it would do for the consultation fee for you so kindly coming here to negotiate with the Republic." Brunswick reached into his pocket and pulled out a small data-chip. There was exactly two million credits stored it in it. He handed it to the woman. "Now, about the payment for your faction's services, madam. Twenty million? Twenty million for hiring fee and five thousand per soldier? That's ridiculous. I've come here today before you to negotiate a deal starting at forty-five million credits. After all, we expect the best from the Omega Pyre to aid us at Roche." Brunswick paused for a second before asking his last question.

"Also, we'd like to request to have a bit more information on the 1st Battalion, madam. Who will be leading it? ...and how many mercenaries are in the 1st Battalion?"

Tegaea raised an eyebrow. "Your offer has jumped significantly. If you wish to offer us more, you may do so, but our contract rates are as I mentioned."

"The First Battalion is led by Colonel @[member="Siobhan Kerrigan"], one of the best tactical officers in the galaxy. She's a former Jedi, but her skills have grown since she left there. The Battalion consists of three infantry companies, each of 120 soldiers, plus a support company of the same size. With other staff and support, we will provide five hundred crack troops for the operation. We provide our own transports, gunships and armour, including walkers and tanks. We shall also provide a strike cruiser for strategic deployment, though that will cost a little extra. So in summary, twenty million hiring fee, five thousand credits for each of the five hundred combatants per day, plus an extra hundred thousand a day for the cruiser. Plus, whatever else you wish to pay us as a reward or bonus."

Tegaea did not regret putting her hand out early. The fact that the Republic was so desperate was interesting in itself.

Brunswick smirked to himself as he heard that his offer had jumped. "Its just that we expect a lot from you mercenaries."
The Senator of Kuat listened patiently as the woman informed him more on Omega Pyre's 1st Battalion. "Ah. I see. Please give me a moment while I do so math..." The Senator did some quick caluculations in his head: twenty million hiring fee, five thousand credits for each of the five hundred combatants per day, plus an extra hundred thousand a day for the cruiser. And obviousely, some bonus inceptives wouldn't hurt. "I'd say... about fifty million credits will suffice for your faction's support to the Republic at Roche? I am willing to pay you thirty million credits right here, right now, and pay you the other twenty million after the battle at Roche. Besides, if we emerge victorious, the Republic may be willing to pay you with more than just twenty million credits... " Brunswick had worked as a businessman in the KDY for many years in the past, so he knew that he was offering the Omega Pyre a heck of a deal.

Tegaea tried to keep a straight face, but forced herself to look almost nonchalant. "Yes, that will do nicely, Senator. When do you need us ready by? As I said, it will take us five days to be in position."

This deal was good...too good? Did the Republic really put so much expectations into this operation? Well, either way.

Brunswick could see that the Omega Pyre's woman was twitching. Yep. Fifty million credits on one freaking battle. For a cluster of asteroids. Fantastic. The Galactic Republic might've as well as just bought a Roche asteroid for fifty million Republic credits. However, Roche was still of great importance to the Republic's safety....

"I'd say you should ready the 1st Battalion starting today. After five days, and if the battle at Roche still hasn't started by then, I am willing to pay one hundred thousand additional credits for each day that your battalion remains prepared until the event at Roche."

"Hapes. It is the closest planet to Roche. The Republic will provide barracks there for your troops to stay for a few days if neccessary."
Brunswick nodded. "I shall sign the contract now." He handed her a briefcase, which contained thirty million credits.
"Remember: Thirty million credits now, and twenty million later."

Tegaea nodded, scanned the contract, noting the amendments they had made were included, and then signed.
"It shall be done, Senator. Thank you for this opportunity to do business with you." She offered her hand for him to shake.

"Thank you as well, madam, for this opportunity. We'll contact you when the battle at Roche starts."

Brunswick reached forward for a handshake and gave her a warm smile.
