Xandyr woke slowly. His face was cold. It hurt. As he started to open his eyes and lift his head he realised it was because he had been sleeping on a bar. The pain came from the pain behind his eyes and from sleeping on such a hard surface. The bar was wet.
He wiped his face with his hand then wiped his hand on his trousers.
He looked around the bar. It was almost empty. There were a few others sleeping off the night's drinking at tables. This was the kind of bar that was almost always busy. They served food and caf in the mornings and people were drinking here at almost every hour of the day.
"Where's eve'body," Xandyr muttered.
The bartender emerged from behind the bar. He went to the windows and started pulling down metal security shutters. He turned towards Xandyr.
"You can stay, but we could be locked down a while," he said to Xandyr.
"What's going on?"
"Showdown. Streets are clear but for fightin' folk. The hutts having a disagreement about power in Mos Espa. Everyone know's it's about to spill over."
Xandyr made for the door. The streets were barren. The sun was low in the sky, carving deep shadows through the streets. Eventually he saw movement. There was a gran with a cycler rifle on one of the rooves.
"I need to get out of this city," Xandyr groaned. He checked his belongings. A handful of credit chits, his blaster and two spare power packs.
"There's one last transport shuttle to Mos Eisley at 3:10. But you've got thirty minutes and you don't want to be crossing those streets right now. It's about to go down."
Xandyr took one last look around the bar and looked out into the street.
"Gonna try my luck out there," he proclaimed. He could see more movement now. Armed enforcers from both Hutt clans taking up positions in houses, doorways and on rooves.
