LIVE:

This is Holly Starstorm, live for Holo News Network, outside The High Republic Hall of Justice on Naboo.

The trial of Lysander von Ascania began today on Naboo, with Senator Verity Stuyveris acting as prosecutor and Chairwoman Astra Sadow leading the defense.

Von Ascania stands accused of crimes against the High Republic following his capture in the aftermath of a battle on Jakku. Questions surrounding the circumstances of that capture are expected to play a significant role in the proceedings, as the defense has already emphasized that von Ascania was not apprehended within Republic space.

The highly anticipated trial has drawn considerable attention across the galaxy. Prosecutors had sought to close the proceedings to the media, a request opposed by the defense. For now, Holo News Network is among those following the case as it unfolds.

Security surrounding the proceedings remains exceptionally tight, with the identities of the jurors being withheld from the public.

Inside the courtroom, the defendant's sisters sat in the front row. His eldest sister, Corazona von Ascania could be seen clutching a gemstone reportedly given to her as a gift, appearing visibly heartbroken as proceedings began. Fatine von Ascania , the accused's younger sister, was also present among those gathered to observe the trial.

The gallery included several other high-profile attendees, among them the King of Naboo, Aurelian Veruna and the Grandmaster of the Jedi Order, Ala Quin, underscoring the political and galactic significance surrounding the case.

The court has now recessed while the prosecution and defense discuss the possibility of a plea agreement. Whether those discussions will result in an agreement, or send one of the High Republic's most closely watched cases before a jury, remains uncertain.

Stay tuned to Holo News Network for continuing updates on the case!
