GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION
  • Gravity: Standard
  • Climate: Temperate
  • Primary Terrain: Mountains, Oceans, Jungles, Swamps, Deserts, Tundra
  • Atmosphere: Type I
LOCATION INFORMATION
  • Capital City: The largest settlement is Arboria, a major fortified city built on top of a mountain.
  • Planetary Features: An isolated planet located within a nearby star cluster, Zaathru is found on no star maps and has yet to establish any formal contact with other worlds. The planet is littered with ruins, indicating that a fairly advanced ancient civilization once existed there, but due to a major cataclysm in the distant past their society collapsed. The primary sentient denizens of Zaathru today are extremely primitive and too busy fighting each other to care about the greater galaxy anyway.
  • Major Locations:

  • Temple Forge - Located inside an active volcano, this mysterious forge is worshiped by the local tribes as the seat of a deity. The machinery itself has long since fallen dormant, but it could be made to work again...

  • Deodoro Mountains - A region with mountains so tall they reach the clouds. Many grand, castle-like ruins can be found along the cliffs, filled with pale ghost lights.

  • Mycotan Marshes - A swampy region populated by large fungal mushroom creatures that consume dead matter. These creatures are mobile and, when agitated, can make for formidable opponents.

  • The Vortexes - Strange geographical phenomena created by gravitational forces near the planet's equator. Home to many unique sea creatures which have evolved under these special conditions.

  • North Pole Abandoned Research Center - It is unclear when exactly this facility was built, only that its architecture and more modern technology indicates it is not native in origin. The most likely theory is that it was created by a private organization to observe and conduct research on the planet. However, that doesn't quite explain the presence of the strange mutant monsters which roam its halls.
  • Force Nexus:

    • Intent: To add to the lore of the planet and create a location for future RP.
    • Nexus Name: The City of the Muses
    • Nexus Alignment: Dark
    • Size: Medium
    • Strength: Moderate
    • Accessibility: Located within a particularly large ruin complex located in the middle of the desert, it is fairly easy to access, but getting inside can be difficult. The ruins have defenses that are still functional and dangerous, including deadly machine warriors that guard its secrets and various traps to trip up treasure hunters and thieves.
    • Effects: This mysterious structure is believe to have once been a grand palace, or perhaps an entire city unto itself. Now long abandoned, it is shrouded in the Dark Side of the Force. The City of the Muses is known for its ability to confer profound creative inspiration upon those who use it. This inspiration may be artistic, scientific, or even spiritual in nature. However, this effect has a steep cost, requiring those seeking its benefits to sacrifice a living being to the nexus, especially someone close to the sacrificer.

POPULATION
  • Native Species: Zaathri
  • Immigrated Species: The Shaal
  • Population: Moderate; roughly 400 million
  • Demographics:
    • The Shaal - 60%
    • Zaathri - 40%
  • Primary Languages: Shaalin (language of the Shaal) | Zaathri (sign language of the Zaathri)
  • Culture:
    • The Zaathri: The native Zaathri are a centaur-like species. It is believed that their ancestors were the creators of the elaborate ruins that dot the planet, but following a great cataclysm in the distant past, their civilization collapsed. Now the Zaathri have regressed to a primitive state, with the majority living in small hunter-gatherer tribes.
    • The Shaal: Zaathru has become dominated by the Shaal, a humanoid species that originated on Dagda, one of Zaathru's moons. Once a lush planetoid, at some point in the past Dagda became desolate. It is presumed that the ancient Zaathri moved the Shaal's ancestors to Zaathru so that they might survive, not realizing that the Shaal would eventually outnumber them.
    • Conflicts: The Shaal are aggressive, with their various kingdoms frequently squabbling amongst themselves for one reason or another. They have a socially complex culture revolving around rituals. Disputes are resolved with highly formal duels to the death - they may be barbaric, but they aren't savages. They have conquered and enslaved many Zaathri tribes; as a result of this cultural mixing, the Shaal and enslaved Zaathri share the same religion, but have different interpretations of the will of the gods.
    • Religion and the Force: Shaal religion is polytheistic, with some elements of animism and shamanistic practices. The Force is not viewed as a single entity; individual beings may be connected, but they do not form a whole. If you can feel the Force and sense connections between living beings, you're just viewing the spirit world. Force sensitive individuals may become shamans or sorcerers/sorceresses whose powers are called upon by the people for aid in various ways. Sorcerers typically devote themselves to one particular deity or spirit, who in turn becomes their patron.
GOVERNMENT & ECONOMY
  • Government: Varies; this planet does not have any single unified government, but rather is divided up into various nations and tribal groups with their own ways of running things. Perhaps the largest and most powerful of these groups is the Kingdom of Dikarya, a Shaalite nation with a system roughly equivalent to a feudalistic monarchy.
  • Affiliation: Rhiannon Dinn | Arcturus Dinn
  • Wealth: Poor; by galactic standards, the natives of Zaathru typically live in appalling poverty, though some rulers are rich by the planet's own standards of wealth.
  • Stability: Low; constant warfare and the presence of a Dark Side nexus make this a hostile place for all but the most steel-nerved of outsiders.
  • Freedom & Oppression: The majority of the population struggles just to survive. There are kings, and chieftains, and warlords leading their armies in wars of conquest or annihilation. Those who cannot fight are vulnerable to death and/or enslavement.
MILITARY & TECHNOLOGY
  • Military: They're closer to the iron age than the bronze age, but the militaries of Zaathru as they currently exist are not capable of standing against galactic forces. Not only is their tech far behind what is available to extraterrestrial forces, they are too scattered and tribalistic to form an army big enough to fight such powers.
  • Technology: Below Galactic Standard; as previously mentioned, they are somewhere in the early iron age.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION

The Shi'ido were aware of the existence of Zaathru centuries ago, but attempts at exploring the mysterious planet were often met with tragic ends. Expeditions would return with reports of teammates killed by the natives or devoured by a nexus of the Dark Side. Thus, what little is known of Zaathru (also known as ExGal Delta in official reports) comes from very limited sources.

The sheer number of ruins covering the planet seems to indicate that a thriving and advanced civilization once existed on Zaathru. Yet the natives know nothing about the history, culture, or technology of their predecessors, and in fact seem to harbor a superstitious aversion toward these old places. It has been proposed that a major cataclysmic event occurred at some point, which brought about the great society's downfall, though the exact nature of this event remains a mystery.

Now the people of Zaathru - the Zaathri and the Shaal - live in a world that is divided along tribalistic lines and torn apart by constant warfare. The natives are hostile toward anyone outside their particular group, and that includes strangers claiming to have come from the stars.
