Description:
During the Yuuzhan Vong's invasion of the galaxy, Warmaster Tsavong Lah took a liking to the game, and had his Shapers create a version of the game with actual living pieces.

Now, a few centuries and a plague later, the game of Yuuzharik has evolved to become just as popular as the parent version, and is played widely by Yuuzhan Vong all across the Galaxy. No self-respecting Shaper goes through their career without crafting a few living pieces for the game, and there are some who devote their whole lives to perfecting them.

Having branched off the humanoid concept of Dejarik, the Yuuzhan Vong version follows a similar principle, with the difference in the fact that the pieces are actual, miniature versions of the ‘monsters’ that are represented by vivid holograms in the original. These miniatures retain the full gamut of behavior displayed by their larger siblings, with the exception of being conditioned not to attack the players… too much.

Occasionally, a piece can go wild — especially if provoked — and it’s not unheard of for people to have lost fingers, hands, or even eyes to these rampant beasts; one must not forget that while small, they are still very much dangerous. A whole subculture exists for the ‘unchained’ — though the word used by the Yuuzhan Vong is ‘Escalated’ — variation of Yuuzharik, where the pieces are intentionally made to be aggressive to the players as well. The game knows few rules to begin with, but its Escalated variant is known to be as bloody as it is entertaining. True veterans of it bear horrific scarification that any Warrior would be proud of, and those who win large-scale tournaments often get tattoos to commemorate the historic occasion.

Over time, Shapers have added miniature versions of non-Vong beasts as well, Shaping them in a similar way to the original monsters. In present day, the full spectrum of pieces one may play with is nothing short of astounding, including fabled creatures like the Rakamat, Umrach, Chom-Vrone, and Slivilith. For those with less glory to their name, there are also specimens like the Yargh’un, Voxyn, and Vagh Rodiek.

There are also a few legendary pieces whose existence has never been fully confirmed, and an official tournament in Yuuzharik has yet to see them in play, yet with the amount of rumors in circulation, one has little choice but give at least some credence to Tu-Scart and Sgauru, the ‘Biter and Beater’ who still haunt the nightmares of Republic soldiers generations after their demise.

Using a Yammosk, Gramutek, or a World Brain piece warrants an instant disqualification in a tournament, as they are considered to trump all else that one can put on the board. Escalated games, however… well. Death is part of life.
