Mission Log: .

Task Force Arestul has been on perimeter patrol for some time now. While following normal procedures, there has not been much to report. Truly I cannot be comfortable though, as while there has not been any definitive signs of concern, there is the potential for a Sith invasion. We will remain on alert, but will continue our normal duties so as not to cause alarm to the citizens of the Republic.

It was somewhat of a surprise when we were contacted to receive a particularly special guest on the planet Vandelhelm. The “Alpha” is arriving into orbit so as to receive the shuttle carrying the individual. I am personally heading to the landing bay to greet the individual.

Dressed in a white and sky blue outfit, the bubbly pink Zeltron sat in her seat on the shuttle with her eyes on the pad in her hands. The power source on the ship was most important, but she spent some time looking at the weaponry too. Despite being absolutely the Cutest, Cali wasn't above working on or constructing weapons or defense technologies. Of course, she usually only did so for people that sought to protect people. Sith weren't her biggest customer -- first off, they usually liked blowing people up (big no no), and second, they usually felt like an angry badger hissing at you even when they weren't even looking in your direction (really unsettling).

Once the shuttle slid into position, Cali looked up and then tucked her pad away. Whelp, she looked forward to seeing all kinds of interesting things on board the Alpha. Maybe she'd get to see Beta, Gamma, Delta, Epsilon...

She'd finished mentally ticking off Omega by the time she stepped foot outside of the shuttle with a big smile. If Captain Pouihl was there she'd give him a wave before continuing out to meet him. "Hello, Captain, my name is Cali Ziiva, Diviner of Technical Wonders." Know your audience. The Captain probably didn't want her here for a big party... or did he?

Okay, a party girl.

Admittedly, that was a bit presumptuous on my part that she is not of the serious sort., but it was not meant to be insulting.

That was @Gym Halpern’s job.

Her eyes scanning the launch bay was not on me, perhaps she was either a “techy” or knew her stuff. I would not mistreat her either way as “orders are orders” though, I must admit, I had to wonder why she could not take the shuttle she was on to her destination. They are, or at least look to be designed to be long range.

Welcome to the RNV Alpha. We will be returning to Task Force Arestul shortly before travelling to your destination. Would you like to be shown to your quarters? This was not toned to be a demand, or directive, more just a simple question.

Quarters? "Oh, I was hoping I could perhaps look around? Especially engineering. I could lay out some ideas in return for the trouble." Something told Cali their quarters wouldn't be terribly exciting or visually stimulating. Not to mention they wouldn't have like a Jacuzzi or sauna in them. Didn't seem like that sort of ship. And by that sort, Cali of course was thinking of her own.

"Is there anything in particular your crew's been interested in modifying?" That was another option. Rather than her poke around and throw out ideas, maybe they already had some ideas. Surely they had some. Like, maybe a Jacuzzi. Ships were often away from port for extended periods of time, right?

Was expecting this, to be honest. Would normally not be open to something along these lines, but the fact that we are under orders to receive and transport this woman means she is important to someone in the D.O.D. So I was willing to make a normal exception, however there was something that we would not be able to do.

Well then, let us head to Engineering. However, while I am sure that there are some facets of this design of ship that could and would need to be modified, this design, the shuttles, and the starfighters on board and all ships of Task Force "Arestul" are the only ships in the Royal Navy that are designed and constructed by Guardian Authority Ltd. with tech from Lucerne Labs. All changes and permissions would be done through them. In fact many of the senior members of the staff and crew of each ship had traveled with me from service in the Galactic Alliance Defense Force, and the Silver Jedi Defense Force before that. A wordy explanation allowed the awkward silence to be filled in the rather quick lift ride to Engineering.

Ooh, Cali liked Rojuhr. It wasn't every day you meet someone in the armed forces that was so talkative. As for what he said, "Really? Well, you know there are changes that don't actually change anything. They can't honestly have you in some kind of hands-off contract. Ship components wear out and get replaced all the time, and then you have to re-calibrate them. Some times even in the middle of a fight."

"There's lots of things we can do that won't change-change the ship's configuration. Too many to do while I'm here unless you want me to stay longer. Not that your engineers aren't doing their best, but it's a big ship. Only so much time to do your daily maintenance, handle requests, and squeeze out some extra performance from every system. I can at least point out some high value wins that'll probably bolster their pride in accomplishing something they can put in a report."

What if they were locked into some strange, ultra restrictive maintenance agreement? Well, Cali could still palm some deets off to the engineers anyway and she was sure a few of them would inexplicably end up used. Sometimes you had to beg forgiveness instead of ask permission. Bad policy, but a Cutey (or Engineer) had to do what they had to do, ya know?

The pushy nature of the Zeltron woman known as “Cali” was a deterrent to my being diplomatic. However it seemed more like a test than anything. I am still fairly new to the Royal Naboo Navy as a whole, but I do know how general protocols work. While I will not break such, as per the direction of my late mentor, I am sure that I could appease the woman’s curiosity in some manner. The matter at hand is finding that method.

Ma’am. My late mentor, Admiral Liram Angellus was heavily involved with GAL Ltd. and one of the lead ship designers. This was not entirely untrue, but there was no need for ancillary details when I was attempting to reach common ground. Out of respect for him, and the fact that his widow is the new CEO, I cannot authorize any true changes out here…

Here is where the art of Diplomacy borrows from Negotiation.

However. I can and am more than willing to continue the tour, and you are welcome to ask questions and any “suggestions” you offer can be taken up the next time we are in port or Drydock. Fair? Provided no attempts at Corporate Espionage are done.

Cali stared at the Captain as he turned down her offer. He didn't want to improve the efficiency of his power distribution system? Oh, no, his engineers were conducting preventative maintenance while away from port, right? A cute Engineer could break out in a cold sweat just thinking about all the poor mechanical systems on board that were begging to be recalibrated.

"Oh. Okay." Did it really need to wait that long? She'd totally have to see if the chief engineer was as by the book. Were they afraid she was there trying to sell them on a new turbolaser turret? Cali was a cute saleszeltron, but she wasn't a ship-to-ship saleszeltron. Sometimes all a ship needed was some tender love and a few words of encouragement! Granted, Cali seemed to speak machine language better than almost anyone, but she felt machines could understand others just fine anyway.

"So, what brings you all the way out here?"

While this is becoming more and more a test on my patience, there is a reason why we were ordered to collect this woman and transport her. I have some sway with the company heads, so I believe that I can work something out. Of course, if you can see something of critical importance that needs immediate attention, I can “make a call”.

While this goes against my ethics, I will survive.

Her question was clearly something of an attempt to change the subject. We are on perimeter patrol. The Navy is still basically “under construction” and ours at the moment is the only fully operational “Task Force”. That is probably “Classified information” but she asked, and it is not like it is not difficult to ascertain on her own.

The Zeltron perked up at the Captain offering to consider emergency items of consideration. "Sounds great, Captain. Don't worry, this Cali knows the different between nice to have and must have." If they were lucky maybe they didn't have any critical needs. Sometimes she found a ship being given all the good treatments.

Her eyes widened as he explained the ship was on patrol, and the fleet was still being assembled. "Wow. Even more ships like this? That'll be amazing. I haven't seen much yet, but they look well-built. Bet they'll be all kinds of awesome keeping people safe. Galaxy is still all kinds of messy these days, huh?"
