ADVANCED SYSTEMS
STRENGTHS
  • Robust: The Y-Fender's heavy armor plating and dual deflector shield system ensures that the starfighter is able to sustain significant damage without being destroyed
  • Heavily armed: The Y-Fender can engage a variety of different targets thanks to its powerful and varied onboard armament
  • Speed boost: Since the Y-Fender comes equipped with SLAM, it can temporarily increase its speed beyond its normal limits
  • Maneuverability boost: In a similar fashion, the Y-Fender is also equipped with a Proprietary Internal Maneuverability System, allowing the craft to increase its agility in a dogfight
WEAKNESSES
  • Mediocre performance: When not engaging its speed and maneuverability boosts, the Y-Fender "Ugly" is only capable of attaining mediocre performance, making it vulnerable to faster moving fighters
  • Reduced visibility: An unfortunate quirk of the Y-Fender is the fact that it is relatively difficult to see out of, limiting overall visibility
  • Small squadron size: The average Y-Fender squadron only contains a total of 8 starfighters, making the craft vulnerable to smaller, more numerous enemy assets
DESCRIPTION

Prior to its ascension into the Imperial Confederation, the Y-Fender "Ugly" once represented the pinnacle of Mahporeenian starfighter design and ingenuity, being constructed from parts of a Y-Wing and TIE Defender. However, after being admitted to the Confederation as a full fledged member, the Mahporeem Imperial Remnant soon discovered that the Y-Fender was simply unable to compete with more modern and advanced designs, and the starfighter soon faded in obscurity.

That being said, in an attempt to wrestle some modicum of independence from the N&Z Umbrella Corporation, the Imperial Remnant made the decision to restart production of the starfighter with a number of key improvements. First and foremost was the addition of a SubLight Acceleration Motor system and a Proprietary Internal Maneuverability System, allowing the Y-Fender to keep up with faster, more agile ships than itself. The Imperial Remnant then installed a variety of Dornean technology onto the ship, making the Y-Fender even more lethal than it had originally had been. Final improvements included the installation of modular weapon systems, making the Y-Fender even easier to construct than ever before.

That being said, though a robust and capable design, the Y-Fender "Ugly" still suffers from generally mediocre performance and a small squadron size, allowing smaller, more numerous starfighters to take advantage of the vessel during atmospheric and space combat. Nonetheless, the Imperial Remnant believes that the Y-Fender "Ugly" can play an important role in Imperial combat operations, regardless of its age or origins.
