Designed in response to growing pirate threats within the GA's hyperlanes, the Astrocat was designed as a quick response, heavily armored frigate that would hide alongside transport convoys to fire on pirates, and destroy them in quick order without risk of retaliation. While it does this job exceeding well, the Astrocat is also capable of acting as a bulwark in GA fleets, allowing the GA to push through enemy formations.
With Si Tech's move to Wild Space, the Astrocat became an important escort for Wild Space shipping, now acting as both a defensive ship for WSR logistics, and heavy long range artillery for offensive naval operations.
