Iris' smile would be met with one of her own, and even though the girl seemed to be getting a bit tired, Valery nodded and agreed to some more training. This next bit could easily be adjusted to take her exhaustion into account.
"Very well, then we're going to spar together," Valery smirked and hoped to get Iris a little excited.
"We will do this using the Ideal-Form, which means we strike and defend with simple vertical or horizontal attacks and blocks. The focus is again on finding a rhythm in the Force, and to refine our reflexes as well."
"Stand ready, we'll start slow."
Valery then drew her blade and slowly stepped towards Iris while she raised the weapon. With a clearly telegraphed sweep, she aimed her strike vertically down towards the top of Iris' head. She would, of course, make sure not to actually hit her Padawan. She was simply wanting to make Iris develop a response to the attack naturally, and help her develop proper blade control.
If successful, the girl truly had accomplished much today - she would have grasped Shii-Cho's basics, and certainly made her Master proud.

Iris took a breath to calm her still pounding heart. Just to relax. She was both tired and now nervous. Valery Noble Valery Noble surely wouldn't hurt her. No, there was no reason for the Padawan to be nervous. She took the stance, her breathing slowed and under control. The first strike came, and Iris let herself go. Let the Force guide her, as she'd been instructed earlier. Her blade came up to catch the strike along it.

It was an easy thing to block, for sure. Iris smiled, but this time with a hint of.. Danger? Cockiness? Something was there.

"Is this all the Ideal-Form is?"

Valery had chosen to begin with blaster deflection to really help Iris get her coordination between her use of the Force and her physical bladework down. So when she made her simplistic strike, the young Padawan felt it approaching as her Master's intent echoed through the Force.
Without any problems, the blade was caught at a right angle, and Valery could only smirk at the question.
"That's right, simplistic strikes to develop reflexes and control," she explained. "But to make it more interesting, we can go through what we call velocities, where we go through these patterns of striking the zones of the body, and gradually go faster. We go with the flow of the Force," she explained.
"Initiate a strike, and let's go back-and-forth."

Reflexes and control. Iris hummed softly. Did she.. Really need that? Wasn't the point to let the Force guide her movements? The padawan didn't voice the question though. Valery Noble Valery Noble offered to move onto something more than just the slow cuts towards each other, and Iris was excited to see just how far she could go. Her training with a weapon was literally just this day, yet as they went through the strike zones she kept up.

At first.

In terms of defense it was far easier for Iris. The Force never led her astray, and she put her full trust in every parry, block, even dodge if she was feeling fancy. This whole time she was feeling fancy. Thrilled at her new found power. She wasn't helpless. She wasn't weak. Then it was her turn to strike. All at once the bravado collapsed. Slow, uncertain. The Force didn't guide her to strike, not like this.

So she was left to her own, sorely lacking devices. Much to her embarrassment. All it took was turning it around for her to realize she wasn't anywhere close to being capable in a fight.

Valery shared Iris' excitement when it came to the girl's defenses - she was a true Jedi, focused and in tune with the Force when it came to Self-defense. But when their roles switched, and Valery stood ready to block her Padawan's attempts at striking her way through the zones, something changed.
The flow the girl had was suddenly gone.
Valery allowed her to continue, gradually at her own pace with the hopes that she'd find her rhythm again. But there seemed to just be a difference between being defensive and offensive with Iris. Or was her exhaustion finally affecting her performance? Either way, Valery decided to end the fight.
"Solah," she said, not having explained its meaning yet.
As she stepped back, her lightsaber disengaged and she'd return the weapon to her belt.
"It's a term for surrender used in sparring."
"For our first training session, I believe we've made a lot of progress. But rest is also important. Before we go, though, I'd like to ask a question. How do you feel about what you've learned, and what do you think you need to practice more?"

Iris blinked. The word was enough for her to not pursuit after Valery Noble Valery Noble as the master made space between them. At the explanation she turned off her blade and nodded. Surrender in a spar. If it was a thing with everyone, she'd at least be prepared to spar with another. Her saber disengaged, though she didn't hook it on her hip. She didn't have a place to put a training saber at least.

"I'm not very good at attacking. Heh."

Valery smiled and walked over with an extended hand, offering to take the training lightsaber so she could put it away. There were racks nearby, and she figured she'd let Iris get some free time.
"It takes time to get it all down, so we'll work on your attacking bladework next time," Valery told the girl with an encouraging tone. "You've done really well, and picked up on a lot of things today. Keep it up."
Her eyes then shifted to the door.
"Why don't you grab a shower and maybe do some painting? I'll be with you shortly to cook us some dinner. We'll keep the rest of the evening off to get some rest. Sound good?"

Iris handed over the lightsaber with a smile, nodding. A shower sounded nice. She was pretty sweaty. And, well. Painting did sound nice. A good way to relax. The padawan didn't argue, pretty quickly heading towards her room. "Sounds good. I'll see you in a bit then!"
